What do you have in your dining room?

We are moving house soon and will have a proper dining room for the first time (our current house has a living room/dining room rather than a whole separate room). Apart from table and chairs what else do you have in it? I feel like our table will look a bit silly if its the only thing in the room.

Table and chairs, sideboard with our wedding present China and glasses

BlackeyedSusan · 28/12/2020 02:15

Ex: table, chairs, computer, bookcase, cupboard, freezer, part of the stairs, two bikes, small table.

Me: don't have a dining room, just the one room downstairs apart from the kitchen.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/12/2020 02:17

We have neighbours that also only have one main room and keep their bikes in it.

Ours is an extension running across the whole back of the house. It has the table, chairs and sideboard at one end. The other end has a small sofa, two arm chairs a couple of side tables and a big rug.
There are also plants everywhere. It's my favourite room in the house.

Table with six chairs. Dresser. Electric piano, a lot of guitars, an amp. My work stuff, for when I am wfh.

It suits us. I could live with a bit less stuff in there, but it’s a reasonably sized room so it works okay.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 28/12/2020 08:24

8 seater table, bookshelf, sideboard which doubles as our board game cupboard, small tv and a couch

Landlubber2019 · 28/12/2020 08:28

@Kintsugi16 we use our dining table daily, we use it for eating, playing games, crafting when kids were younger, jigsaws, sorting laundry etc.

Dinosauraddict · 28/12/2020 08:30

Reining room table and chairs, high chair, sideboard to store glassware with nice lamp on, fireplace with mirror above, globe drinks cabinet, nest of tables for parties, 3 dog beds, bowls etc. We eat in ours every day and DS has all his meals in there. Dogs eat in there twice a day. It's well used. It also had french patio doors to outside.

Dinosauraddict · 28/12/2020 08:30
  • Dining - god knows what happened there!
Toocold · 28/12/2020 08:32

Table, five chairs but can fit six, a sofa and a ton of toys and a fire place. It was the living room, swapped the living room and dining room around so the dining room is more like a play room/dining room.

Messyplayallday · 28/12/2020 08:34

Dining table with 4 chairs and babies high chair. It’s between the kitchen and living room, no doors between the rooms but clearly 3 separate rooms. We use it for all three meals a day plus snacks now little one is eating those.

How do people eat meals on the sofa?! Genuine questions! Where do you put your glass or cup, condiments etc? how do you balance and not spill food? do you not hunch over and hurt your backs?

DeanImpala67 · 28/12/2020 09:04

Table and chairs, inherited large welsh dresser, and then bits for the home office - small computer desk with computer on it, Ikea 2x2 kallax unit with printer and filing trays. Our room has doorways either end so there has to be space left to walk through to get to the other rooms. It's the most used room in our house!

JillofTrades · 28/12/2020 11:15

Dining table (10 seater) , chairs, dresser, painting. We use it everyday.

Houseyhousey · 28/12/2020 13:23

Dining table, bench and four chairs Plus a painted dresser, a corner lamp and a large indoor pot plant.

BrigitsBigKnickers · 28/12/2020 13:40

Dining table and chairs, piano, antique side board and a matching antique cupboard.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 28/12/2020 13:47

Atm not much! - we’ve just recently moved from a very small flat into a Victorian house, so we’ve not got much furniture yet. But we’re going to have one long sideboard to go against one wall and one dresser/glass cabinet for one of the alcoves, and possibly another dresser/cabinet to go in the other one (although I might go for a lamp table to sit in one alcove so that I can move it out at Christmas and place a tree there).

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 28/12/2020 13:47

We do have a big table and chairs.

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 28/12/2020 14:02

Table and six chairs but it does extend to eight, fireplace, bookshelves and cupboards built in either side of the chimney breast, a dresser with all of the crockery etc in it, a wingback chair by the fire for me to read in and not much else. We're lucky to have a morning room off the kitchen, where we keep DS's toy box activity table, another dresser and a bureau/desk, plus the living room, so the dining room is for eating, reading and board games mainly

longtompot · 28/12/2020 14:46

When we moved here going from a living dining room to two separate rooms, we just had the dining table, a Welsh dresser and a couple of bookcases. We now have my eds art studio at one end of the room where the dresser used to be due to space issues in her room.

ShrikeAttack · 28/12/2020 15:15

Dining table and eight chairs (extends to 12).
A church pew.
A settle.
2 book cases.
A large painted dresser that has glassware, fully stocked -cocktail bar and then board games in the bottom. Linen, candles etc. in the drawers.
Drinks cabinet with ice bucket, candleabra and cocktail equipment on.
Usually has a low table covered in plants but that has been moved for a Christmas tree.
Set of shelves with wine glasses and a Bose on.
Lots of plants.
Two standard lamps.

We use it every day, and eat in there 2-3 times a week (we have another table in the breakfast room for day-to-day eating).

Echo08 · 28/12/2020 15:57

@LeSquigh

We started with only a table and chairs then naturally filled it up with all manner of shit that doesn’t belong anywhere else!
I am reading this thinking has anyone else put stuff they don't need in their dining room like we have Grin.
Spodge · 28/12/2020 16:00

Table and chairs and a sideboard, plus a couple of very small side tables. That's all that will fit in it. We use it for every meal - no table in the kitchen, or even a breakfast bar.

poppingpotatoes · 28/12/2020 16:09

A table and 8 chairs, several book cases, a bureau and my piano.

ghostmous3 · 28/12/2020 16:12

My daughter 🤣
We turned the dining room into a bedroom for her

Before that we had a table with 6 chairs, a sideboard and the computer desk. It's not the biggest room to be fair

tierthreetwoone · 28/12/2020 16:14

A table with 6 chairs, my husbands arm chair, a lamp and large plant and two birds
