The obligatory Bayliss and Harding...

Have recieved two sets this year. One from FIL and one from DH's Aunt. Also had another smelly set from DSIL. I have severe Eczema and can't use any of these types of sets. No shame in saying all will be going to the charity shops in the New Year.

FIL gave DH a bunch of cash, some new clothes, chocolate bits, etc. I got a Bayliss and Harding Set I can't even use. Hmm

Anyone else get the obligatory Bayliss and Harding set? Or maybe some other unthoughtful gifts from the in laws?

I used to from my in laws but now we don't speak. It's great, id rather have nothing than one of those sets.

Poor DH seemed quite embarrassed when I opened the solitary Bayliss and Harding gift set from FIL. Think he thought I would be getting a gift card or something to go with it. He kept asking me to double check inside the wrapping paper and even opened the Bayliss and Harding gift set to make sure FIL hadn't hidden it inside. 😂

I absolutely hate bayliss and Harding set. My ex used to buy me one of those every year because he couldnt be arsed finding out what I really liked and it smells horrible.

Ive told dp in no uncertain terms was he to buy me that shit..ever.

I know people moan about soap and glory but I really like it..he buys me that instead.

To me it just screams cant be arsed..its not even nice. I love getting dove stuff or radox, simple stuff etc though

@TheKeatingFive They may very well be nice sets and appreciated by plenty of people but not me. I've got eczema quite badly and can't use them. We are close to the in laws so it would be nice to think they know me well enough not to get me something that'll flare up my eczema.

How well do you know each other? What did you get him?

My in-laws get me bath stuff. I quite like it but I know it's not what everyone wants. I'm not massively close to them and they tend to ask my DH for advice on what to get me. DH sorts their gifts from us himself so I assume they get something they want.

Your DH should tell them that you have eczema so can't use those gift sets.

There are plenty of other cheap toiletry sets out there, why is B&H the one that attracts all the threads. That’s my question.

God the moaning about christmas gifts on MN gets worse every year.

The snobbery about Bayliss and Harding is very MN too.

For reference, we got FIL a certain gift card for somewhere which is what he asked for, and to go with it, I chose him a book that would appeal to his sense of humour which he was thrilled with. I sorted his presents, I wrapped them.

@TheKeatingFive Well, Bayliss and Harding in particular is rife at Christmas time and the sets pop up everywhere. That's probably why. Of course there are plenty of other smelly sets but Bayliss and Harding seems to be the default for present buyers. Certainly where my in laws are concerned.

It seems a bit childish to be so disappointed by what is a token gesture. Just pass it on to someone else who can use it, and don't put any effort in with him if you think it needs to be all square on effort and expense.

I've never been given a set nor bought one but i really can't see how they're much worse than radox or dove (I hate that slimey stuff) - surely none of these things can be good for skin conditions?
I think people see the packaging on the b&h sets & think it looks like a set similar to Molton brown & a good option as a present

It does attract a lot of hate on MN though

I hate B&H. The body lotion is like water. The last set I got, I used the shower gel as hand wash and donated the body lotion.....
