He’s 43, I’m 31.

Is it too large an age gap?

At your life stages, no. You're no schoolgirl impressed by his car. Maintain independent finances, housing etc.

Some top tips, from the trenches:

  1. Beware if he suddenly decides to "be old." One day he's planning a holiday and humming a merry tune, the next you wake up and he's scowling that 'everything's shit' and he doesn't want to travel, go out, visit a restaurant, see a film or basically do anything anymore other than sit and whinge about politics or 'everything being shit'. Some people just massively adopt this miserable 'old' attitude - my parents did - and some thankfully do not, or snap out of it.
  1. Be alert for any jealous tendencies he may show.
  1. Also for how he speaks about his exes. Good people speak respectfully of them, no matter the circumstances. It's just polite, and they clearly liked them once. If he bangs on about how they were 'all nutters', then no. I mean, this counts for every new partnership, but at his age he should have a few exes behind him and should be able to refer to them all with courtesy.

My first marriage was a 24 year age gap, unnoticeable until he reached retirement age. Very strong marriage until then. My second marriage a 10 year gap which to me feels totally cool.

There is an 11 year age gap between me and my DH, we have been together 36 years. For years it didn't feel as if there was any difference between us, but now he is in his 70s I am noticing it more. I still wouldn't change him for the world though. I used to worry a bit about him dying before me, but there was a similar gap between my parents and my Dad (the older parent) outlived my Mum by 11 years. That put it into perspective for me!

I'm 21- nearly 22. Dp of three years is 37. So no! Not a large gap to me Grin

There’s 12 between us. Been together for 25 years.

One thing i do notice is he’s not as active as i am. I love walking, he likes a bimble. So i tend to go alone or meet a friend. If we do go its a snails pace😂

Other than that, its ok!
