To think that 10pm is not an 'early' bed time?

Just told dh I'm off to bed. He was confused. We normally go later, 11.15/30 but I had a shit nights sleep last night 1-5 (drinking tea at 5.15am) so I am very tired. Plus I have work in the am and he doesn't.

He wasn't being arsey really, he was just like 'it's only 10pm!!' As if it was still tea time.

Aibu to think that 10pm isn't that early?

Depends on your waking time I guess. 10pm was late when I had to rise at 4.45/5am.
10pm isn't that late if I don't have to rise until 7.30 say.

MrsRogerLima · 20/12/2020 22:10

He is being weird. 10pm is my regular bedtime. I need lots of sleep. What's so wrong about that? And why does he feel. Its OK to comment on it like your the odd one?

hugocat · 20/12/2020 22:12

It's early but I'm a night person...

lalalalaloo · 20/12/2020 22:12

We just usually go to bed together, that's why he was surprised.

10pm would be ridiculously early for me. Unless I'm ill, i've never really gone to bed much before midnight and often nearer 1am

TheThingWithFeathers · 20/12/2020 22:13

It sounds early to me, my bedtime is midnight usually.

Squirrelblanket · 20/12/2020 22:14

We usually go to bed to read at about 8-9pm. Often my husband will go to sleep at about 9.30pm. I won't feel sleepy until 10.00-10.30pm at the earliest so often I'm awake 1-2 hours after him. I don't mind the evening bit so much as I'm reading my own book but I wake like clockwork at 6.30am and he can sometimes sleep until gone 9am. Nearly 12 hours!

I'm just jealous really. Grin

Calmandmeasured1 · 20/12/2020 22:14

10 p.m. is early imo. I tend to go to bed at midnight.

What time do you get up?
cricketmum84 · 20/12/2020 22:15

I like a 10-10.30 bedtime. But I'm usually up at 6.30 for work and I really do need quite a bit of sleep.

BackforGood · 20/12/2020 22:15

Well, it would be early for e, but if you only had 4 hours sleep last night, then it sounds late!
I'd have either had a lovely long sleep in the afternoon, or gone to be at about 8pm.

VimFuego101 · 20/12/2020 22:17

Normal for me, and I wouldn't expect someone else to force themselves to stay awake just because I wasn't ready to go.

Fizbosshoes · 20/12/2020 22:17

I'd think 10pm is fairly early for an adult unless they have to wake up extremely early

SwedishEdith · 20/12/2020 22:18

I think it's early. I know some people who go to bed at 9. I always wonder how closely they follow current affairs.

alltoomuchrightnow · 20/12/2020 22:18

Very early for me. I'm still at work then, get home around 11pm each night

ByTheStarryNight · 20/12/2020 22:19

I used to be out of the house to commute by 5.40am so anything after 9.30pm was unthinkably late. Now, I lie in until 7am. 10 is still a perfectly reasonable bedtime, why was he so surprised?

noscoobydoodle · 20/12/2020 22:19

10pm is my normal 'bedtime'- sometimes I go earlier - i am a morning person, usually up by 6, and need my beauty sleep, so am always tired by 10pm!. My DH is a night owl and 10pm would be far too early for him.

ContessaDiPulpo · 20/12/2020 22:19

DH goes to bed on the dot of 10pm every night and always has Grin this thread makes me laugh! I stay up a bit later, it feels too early to me....

LividLover · 20/12/2020 22:19

When I’m working I rarely see 10pm. Up before six and sleep badly so bed 8/9 not at all unusual.

katy1213 · 20/12/2020 22:20

I only finished my dinner 10 mins ago - so yes, that's an early bedtime!

FunTimes2020 · 20/12/2020 22:20

Eh?
EverybodystalkingaboutJamie · 20/12/2020 22:20

If you normally go to bed at 11:15 then 10pm is early - it's all relative.

Thatwentbadly · 20/12/2020 22:22

Well it is early compared to the time you normally go the bed.

I generally like to be in bed for 10 but then I need 9 hours sleep a night. At the moment I’m getting no where near that so need the occasional catch up nap.

Ginogineli · 20/12/2020 22:23

I go to bed about 11:30 and I’m up at 6:15am everyday - is never go to bed before 11 unless hungover!

Plsv87 · 20/12/2020 22:23

I'm often in bed at 9.
