To think that 10pm is not an 'early' bed time?

Just told dh I'm off to bed. He was confused. We normally go later, 11.15/30 but I had a shit nights sleep last night 1-5 (drinking tea at 5.15am) so I am very tired. Plus I have work in the am and he doesn't.

He wasn't being arsey really, he was just like 'it's only 10pm!!' As if it was still tea time.

Aibu to think that 10pm isn't that early?

I think it's early. I know some people who go to bed at 9. I always wonder how closely they follow current affairs.
You do know there are other sources of news than the 9 and 10 o’clock news?
321zyx · 20/12/2020 22:23

It's late for me, 9pm is my normal.

Cam2020 · 20/12/2020 22:23

It's early for me and pre WFH culture I used to get for work at 5am. It's completely subjective. To some of my friends, 10pm would be late!

Giraffey1 · 20/12/2020 22:24

It’s all relative, isn’t it. For me, 10pm is really early. I don’t often get to bed before midnight.

JorisBonson · 20/12/2020 22:24

This is very late for me but I'm usually up for work at 5.

Jennygentle · 20/12/2020 22:25

It totally depends on when you have to get up and how much sleep you need.

Cam2020 · 20/12/2020 22:26

Get up for work at 5am, not to work at 5!

Loubylou9162 · 20/12/2020 22:26

10 is fairly average I’d say. It’s late for me, I’m usually in bed at 9 but that being said I don’t sleep great and neither does my toddler so I need all the sleep I can get

Maybe they noticed that it’s 2020 and we have 24 hour news channels, newspapers, radio or the internet?
RememberSelfCompassion · 20/12/2020 22:29

By 10 bedtime do people mean they go upstairs then or turn lights out... ?

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 20/12/2020 22:30

Stop stewing on it and Go To Sleep!!

About the same as others.....What in the world?
Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/12/2020 22:31

Early for me - before WFH I would go about 11.30, up at 6.30. Now later both sides. But I have friends who go to bed at 9, so I think anything goes. I go to bed to sleep though, no reading, phone or TV - DP will go to bed then lie scrolling through Twitter or on his Kindle.

What are you on about?

A million years ago, when the 10 o'clock news was the only option to catch the news if you missed it at 6, then maybe. But not these days. What rock are you residing under?

Ragwort · 20/12/2020 22:33

I go to bed anywhere between 9pm and midnight, I never understand couples who go to bed at the same time every night, surely you have different sleep patterns? DH and I sleep separately so we would never disturb each other now but I used to hate sharing a bedroom and having to cope with someone else's 'getting ready for bed habits' Grin.

cuppycakey · 20/12/2020 22:34

YANBU

I go to bed between 9.30 and 10. Up at 6am.

What's it got to do with him what time you go to bed?

DoTheNextRightThing · 20/12/2020 22:34

To be fair, I do this too 😂 I'm a night owl so when DP announces he's going to bed, I'm always like "but it's so early!" He was maybe just surprised since you normally go later. Since I'm always late to bed, if I go early DP will usually ask if I'm not feeling well since it's so unlike me.

doubleshotespresso · 20/12/2020 22:35

That's very early for me, but cannot see why this should be an isue at all?

Annoy · 20/12/2020 22:35

Fuck I love my sleep! I’ve just got in to bed now at 22:20 and will likely sleep in until 9

Fandangoes · 20/12/2020 22:35

I rarely go to bed before midnight. It always amazes me when people say they got bed at 9pm I would feel like I had lost half of my day!!

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 20/12/2020 22:38

10/10.30 is normal if you are usually up st 6/6.30 or so.

It's my standard bed time, I'm up a 6.30 either with the kids or for work.

PyongyangKipperbang · 20/12/2020 22:39

As a night person I would say that it does seem very very early but then my sleep pattern is buggered anyway after years of split shifts where I could only catch up in the afternoon.

BF goes about half nine, ten at the latest, as he is up at 5 for work. When he isnt at work he goes about the same time as me, 2 am usually.

RowanAlong · 20/12/2020 22:39

Up early with young kids so 10pm is late for us!

Exactly. I sometimes don't finish work or get home until 19:00 so dinner, and some tv and then bed would feel very dismal.
wasgoingmadinthecountry · 20/12/2020 22:40

Each to their own but are there ACTUALLY grown ups who go to bed at 9? I get up at 6 term time but can't imagine going to bed that early. I'm not 6!
