To think that 10pm is not an 'early' bed time?

Just told dh I'm off to bed. He was confused. We normally go later, 11.15/30 but I had a shit nights sleep last night 1-5 (drinking tea at 5.15am) so I am very tired. Plus I have work in the am and he doesn't.

He wasn't being arsey really, he was just like 'it's only 10pm!!' As if it was still tea time.

Aibu to think that 10pm isn't that early?

Its very early for me unless I was coming down with a cold or felt sick.

I go to bed around 1am and wake at 7.30am.

IdblowJonSnow · 20/12/2020 22:44

Early for me but probably the time I should go to bed as I'm always exhausted.

Ideasplease322 · 20/12/2020 22:45

I try and go to bed around 10:30 - up at 6am

waitinggame108 · 20/12/2020 22:46

Normal... we're in bed for 9.30/10, asleep by 10.30

Up at 6.30 or 7 depending on schedule

Lightsontbut · 20/12/2020 22:48

It's early for an adult I think but you don't need to justify going to bed if you're tired.

bellie710 · 20/12/2020 22:50

We go to bed anytime between 11.30 and 1, up at 8 ish in winter 7.30 in summer.

pilates · 20/12/2020 22:50

Normal for me. Not working tomorrow so up a bit later than usual.

DramaAlpaca · 20/12/2020 22:51

I'd only go up at 10 if I wasn't feeling well, it's very early for me. I'm more likely to go to bed around 1am, later at the weekend. I get up around 8.30 during the week and only have myself to get organised in the morning.

QueenPaws · 20/12/2020 22:53

Whenever you need to go. I'm a night owl but occasionally I need to go to bed at 7pm and I sleep straight through! Usual bedtime is anywhere between 11pm - 1am

MrsBungle · 20/12/2020 22:54

Early for me. We often don’t have tea until 8:30/9pm. If i have an early night it would be 10pm. I usually go to bed around 11:30 ish. Up at 6:45am

AriesTheRam · 20/12/2020 22:54

Not for us.We go at 9.30 during a working week and 10ish at the weekend

grassisjeweled · 20/12/2020 22:57

Later for me.

I'm usually tucked up by 9.30am.

MervGriffinShow · 20/12/2020 23:00

You're an adult so go to bed when you feel tired?! Some nights I go to bed before 9pm and some nights I'm up until the early hours. It all depends how I'm feeling.

I'd be very annoyed at my partner if he acted like yours in reaction to me feeling tired.

thepeopleversuswork · 20/12/2020 23:00

I think its quite early. I get up at 6am latest but I've never been able to go to bed any earlier than 10. You don't get any proper time to unwind if you go to bed that early.

ImnotCarolineHirons · 20/12/2020 23:01

I'm a night owl so it's early for me but I don't need to be up until around half 7.

If I'd had a broken night sleep like you did, I'd be crawling off to bed early too though! (Actually I'd have had an afternoon nap on the sofa while pretending to read.)

Hope you have a better night tonight OP.

Wingedharpy · 20/12/2020 23:02

I'm nocturnal so that would be very early for me.
I don't do mornings if I can get away with it.
3am - 4am is my bed time - sometimes, 5am if I find a particularly riveting Mumsnet post.

Icenii · 20/12/2020 23:03

I go to bed between 9 - 10 but do read for a bit. I find evenings boring. Prefer the morning. Many people don't get enough sleep.

gurglebelly · 20/12/2020 23:03

@SwedishEdith

I think it's early. I know some people who go to bed at 9. I always wonder how closely they follow current affairs.
Because current affairs only happen after 10pm? What a bizarre thing to say
MerchantOfVenom · 20/12/2020 23:04

Exactly. I sometimes don't finish work or get home until 19:00 so dinner, and some tv and then bed would feel very dismal.

But what’s that got to do with not being able to follow current affairs?

Finishing work at 7pm feels very dismal to me.

SwedishEdith · 20/12/2020 23:06

Finishing work at 7pm feels very dismal to me.

Can be, of course. That's life for lots of people.

gurglebelly · 20/12/2020 23:06

10/11 bedtime for me, if I'm tired or sick it may be as early as 9pm, it's rarely beyond 11pm unless it's the weekend

Flipflopfoodle · 20/12/2020 23:07

Both my DH and I are normally 9-10. 10 is quite late for us. I'm only up now as waiting for teenage son. DH naturally wakes at 5.30am, I'm more 6am. I hate being awake in the evenings, nothing to do. (And I keep up with current affairs very easily!)

MerchantOfVenom · 20/12/2020 23:08

Again. Why can you follow current affairs if you’re in bed by 9 or 10?

CharitySchmarity · 20/12/2020 23:09

I think of 11 as the "standard" time for adults to go to bed but any time after 9 is understandable, depending on how tired you are or how early you need to get up in the morning.

If the current affairs comment is something to do with not being able to watch later news on TV - why is it so important to do so? Early to bed usually implies early to rise, so those people will be able to catch the very latest news on the radio the next morning, and it's not as if they will have needed to discuss it with anyone in the meantime, when they were asleep!

Haggisfish · 20/12/2020 23:11

I’m bed at midnight, up at half seven. Any earlier than ten I view as early.
