Beef Stroganoff, rice or pasta?

Hi Everyone, turns out myself and my partner have strong opposing views on which carb should be served with a Beef Stroganoff. I firmly believe it should be rice, but he think it should be pasta. I thought a quick poll of the Mumsnet collective would resolve the issue.

YANBU Rice is the way to go, who the fuck would have pasta with it?!

YABU WTF are you on about, pasta all the way!

Or have we overlooked the perfect accompaniment in our blinkered view of carbs?

Rice. . . . Or mashed potato!

bruffin · 20/12/2020 17:27

I dont have a preference for either, sometimes rice , sometimes pasta depending whats in the cupboard or what i can be bothered to cook

GeidiPrimes · 20/12/2020 17:27

Neither! Roast potatoes.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 20/12/2020 17:27

I'm actually now thinking mash potato would be pretty good, but the potatoes are reserved to have with sausages for tea tomorrow.

I make stroganoff every year with left over beef from Christmas and I cook a solitary serving of rice for mine because my husband and kids will only eat it with pasta. Heathens.

DamsonJamFan · 20/12/2020 17:27

Mashed potatoes, but rice is a good alternative

noodledoodler · 20/12/2020 17:27

Rice, pasta would just be wrong with it

knowsmorethansnow · 20/12/2020 17:28

Rice or mash potatoe

LittlePetal82 · 20/12/2020 17:28

Definitely rice!

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 20/12/2020 17:29

Or serve it in a giant Yorkshire pudding.

Blueberrycreampie · 20/12/2020 17:29

I believe it's traditionally served with 'noodles' ie pasta. I prefer rice though!

Strawberrycreamsundae · 20/12/2020 17:29

Neither. Ribbon noodles.

Mumofsend · 20/12/2020 17:29

BarefootInTheMoonlitSnow · 20/12/2020 17:30

Depends on what I fancy at the time but spuds would definitely be in the running too.

Dixiechickonhols · 20/12/2020 17:31

Rice

BabblativeBean · 20/12/2020 17:31

As mash isn't available, rice.

unkindnessofravens · 20/12/2020 17:32

Rice, always!

PickAChew · 20/12/2020 17:32

Rice or mash.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 20/12/2020 17:32

@IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere

Or serve it in a giant Yorkshire pudding.
This sounds great but my I'm not the best at even the small ones so it may be out of my capabilities.

We are going with pasta btw unless I can do as per tashac89 and have my own little portion of rice.
