Beef Stroganoff, rice or pasta?

Hi Everyone, turns out myself and my partner have strong opposing views on which carb should be served with a Beef Stroganoff. I firmly believe it should be rice, but he think it should be pasta. I thought a quick poll of the Mumsnet collective would resolve the issue.

YANBU Rice is the way to go, who the fuck would have pasta with it?!

YABU WTF are you on about, pasta all the way!

Or have we overlooked the perfect accompaniment in our blinkered view of carbs?

The Yorkshire pudding idea is interesting, but as so many people cannot do a decent one (probably as they are not from God's Own Country), I'd stick to rice.

tenlittlecygnets · 20/12/2020 18:17

Usually rice but Good Food has a version with pasta and that was yum!

fruitypancake · 20/12/2020 18:18

Mash potato with mustard in it

Dobbyismyfavourite · 20/12/2020 18:30

Pasta, Is your DP mad? Definitely rice although mash would be a good alternative.

OrangeVelour · 20/12/2020 18:35

The thick pasta ribbons (can't remember what they're called!)

RumJerrySailorRum · 20/12/2020 18:43

@Nottherealslimshady

I hate that the default vegetarian option is mushroom stroganoff with rice. It just doesn't go at all, rice is for curry, stroganoff is too gravy like. Potatoes all the way.
I NEVER see this as a veggie option, I'm a meat eater but always look to see if this is on the menu as I bloody love it (I always have to make my own)

Anyway, I digress.

Always rice, sometimes chips but never pasta.

delilahbucket · 20/12/2020 18:47

Always do ours with pappardelle.

Itmaybeus · 20/12/2020 19:05

Neither has to be potatoes (mash or boiled).

soberfabulous · 20/12/2020 19:07

Potatoes you savage!!!

ODFOx · 20/12/2020 19:09

Noodles. I usually use buttered tagliatelle but I think it is supposed to be wider ribbon noodles.
Rice with stroganoff is the stuff of school dinners!

mineofuselessinformation · 20/12/2020 19:09

I shuddered when I read the title.
Rice, of course!

Shadowboy · 20/12/2020 19:10

Tagliatelle only. No other pasta.

TheSpottedZebra · 20/12/2020 19:35

I'm baffled that rice is getting so upvoted. It's probably a conspiracy, or perhaps people just panick-bought too much rice back in March.

Therssalwaysachoice · 20/12/2020 19:38

Noodles

I didn't even know there was an alternative to rice. It's just the thing that goes with it...
AdaColeman · 20/12/2020 19:41

Always tagliatelle here, anything else is for Philistines only.

Grin that made me chuckle, I do buy my rice in huge sacks tbh but we always have a lot of pasta in too.

That’s Cher’s favourite dinner. She even sang about it; “Are you stroganoff to live without me...”. Anyway she had hers with rice or sautéed potatoes.

Sometimeswinning · 20/12/2020 20:25

Wtf?? Tagliatelli if you insist on pasta. But its mini roasts and veg!

Dee1975 · 20/12/2020 20:39

Who in earth has it with pasta? Yuck!

laudemio · 20/12/2020 20:42

Rice. But I'd happily eat it with pasta too.

laudemio · 20/12/2020 20:43

But the poster who said chips, yes that would be glorious. Especially chippy chips.

FOJN · 20/12/2020 20:44

Cous cous goes well with a veggie version Smile

maras2 · 20/12/2020 20:45

Mash.

Pipandmum · 20/12/2020 20:46

I prefer rice, as I think pasta would be too stodgy. Same with Hungarian goulash. But I wouldn't argue about it- whoever cooks it can decide!
