Beef Stroganoff, rice or pasta?

Hi Everyone, turns out myself and my partner have strong opposing views on which carb should be served with a Beef Stroganoff. I firmly believe it should be rice, but he think it should be pasta. I thought a quick poll of the Mumsnet collective would resolve the issue.

YANBU Rice is the way to go, who the fuck would have pasta with it?!

YABU WTF are you on about, pasta all the way!

Or have we overlooked the perfect accompaniment in our blinkered view of carbs?

Definitely mashed potato. Yum!

Oh and maybe green beans with it.....

Horehound · 20/12/2020 17:33

Rice

june2007 · 20/12/2020 17:33

spuds or rice, not pasta. (well you could if you want but less common.)

ThreeLadsPointingAtAStar · 20/12/2020 17:34

Always rice

Leaannb · 20/12/2020 17:34

Fried potatoes or egg noodles are the only way to go

Yes I'm just thinking some green beans would be good with it actually!

I hate that the default vegetarian option is mushroom stroganoff with rice. It just doesn't go at all, rice is for curry, stroganoff is too gravy like. Potatoes all the way.

Dizzy1234 · 20/12/2020 17:36

Rice, you philistine 😉

mindutopia · 20/12/2020 17:44

Traditionally, it would definitely be pasta. Rice is a bit weird, in a sub-par pub meal sort of way.

partyatthepalace · 20/12/2020 17:46

Rice!

He’s epically wrong.

Chloemol · 20/12/2020 17:50

Rice

AnyFucker · 20/12/2020 17:51

Chips or mash

JonHammIsMyJamm · 20/12/2020 17:53

Ribbon noodles / flat pasta like fettuccine or tagliatelle

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 20/12/2020 17:53

I'd have it with rice but if I did have to do pasta then tagliatelle would be my choice

PicaK · 20/12/2020 17:53

Pasta is baffling.
Mash or crusty bread with proper butter

naturalyoghurtmuncher · 20/12/2020 17:54

It doesn't really matter. All are good.

Madbengalmum · 20/12/2020 17:54

Rice, pasta is just wrong.

MuttsNutts · 20/12/2020 17:57

Always with rice and wilted spinach here.

But tagliatelle would be good too...

AnathemaPulsifer · 20/12/2020 17:58

Rice, 100%

Crackery · 20/12/2020 17:58

We had it last night for the first time and had it with rice shaped pasta as I couldn't decide which!! Orzo was it called?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 20/12/2020 18:01

92%! I was expecting it to be a bit more mixed tbh. My partner thinks there is some kind of bias from the mumsnet denographic and has asked I poll rice v pasta in general, but I think we are already scrapping the barrel in terns of interest for a Sunday night so will leave it :P

Traditionally rice, but it’s good with tagliatelle.

Millie2013 · 20/12/2020 18:06

We’ve always served it with rice, I’m cooking it on Christmas Eve, as a nod to my dearly departed Dad, who always did the same. I’ve even got the ancient paella pan he used to cook it in ❤️

Barton10 · 20/12/2020 18:08

Pasta I have tagliatelle when I make it

JustanotherTuesday · 20/12/2020 18:13

Rice or mashed potato.
