I was looking for that food thread where people recommended their favourite yummy foods and so much of it came from Aldi. I couldn't find that list.

So I'd like to be quite cheeky and as you to relist the Aldi products in this thread so I can then walk around Aldi with my phone in my hand and move that list from my phone to my trolley Grin

Thank you muchly!

I shop in aldi all the time and I've not seen some of these items!!! I assume Aldi is in different countries?

Guiltypleasures001 · 11/12/2020 20:57

Their duck with plum sauce and pancakes is wonderful
Once roasted crispy skin soft meat 👍

MushMonster · 11/12/2020 21:29

They have the Christmas starters, cheeses, and platters today! They looked gorgeous! We only went in for the pizzas for dinner today, but I am having a good look on Sunday.

CaveMum · 12/12/2020 17:11

They have a Rhubarb and Ginger Gin which, I think, is the equal to the posh Edinburgh Gin version, and also £10 per bottle cheaper at £15!

Almond croissants, salted pretzel chocolate and the Leo lion (I think that's what they're called) sweets, which taste like Percy Pigs did before m&s ruined them.

GlitterBiatch · 13/12/2020 00:30

Lamb shanks (frozen)
Dirty fries
Vegan sausage rolls (the big ones- frozen)
The cookie dough pie (in the fresh desert section)
The family size lasagne (the more expensive ‘finest’ version)
Bacon and gruyere quiche
Teddy faces crisps (pom bear rip offs)
Tropical blast zero sugar cans (lilt zero rip off)

MenaiMna · 13/12/2020 00:44

Dewlay cheeses from Lancashire: Lancashire obviously, Cheshire and the Double Gloucester is lush

MisterT373 · 13/12/2020 00:55

Another vote for their luxury chocolate puddings in the chiller section- the chocolate one is delicious

Also their Pandoro Italian Xmas Cake. For the sake of research I also tried Lidl and Tesco and Aldi wins hands down.

Lorrtay65 · 13/12/2020 01:19

My favourites are -

Chicken Faititas Meal Kit
Tex Mex Dip Selection
Pinotage Wine

Haven't tried anything that I've actually been disappointed in.

Ours is a 40 minute walk way so I don't shop there every week but think I'll go tomorrow after seeing some of the suggestions on here!

CaveMum · 14/12/2020 12:39

Thought of some more!

Specially Selected Duck Spring Rolls (frozen)
Mini Cheeseburgers (chilled) - we try to get these for NYE every year but sometimes we miss out. As they’re fresh (and can’t be frozen) you have to try and get them between Xmas and NYE to ensure they’re in date but we find sometimes they’re sold out.

Also their frozen mini party sausage rolls are fab.

MinnieAnonyMouse · 14/12/2020 14:18

Frozen scallops and prawns are gorgeous - massive and much cheaper than anywhere wise else.

Their steaks generally but particularly when they have waygu steak in.

Their jaffa cakes and hobnob knock offs are better than the originals.

Spicy chicken nuggets. Especially when paired with peri peri mayo.

Cuthbert the Caterpillar is as good as M&S!

Honestly, we haven't found anything we don't like

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 14/12/2020 14:22

I'm off to Aldi tonight. I may need to hitch a trailer to the car.

We went on an Aldi expedition at the weekend. I'd been toying with getting a "Click and Collect", but decided to walk round at a time more convenient to us.

Admittedly they were busy stacking shelves, but I spotted a few items that had been marked "out of stock" on the website. They were quite low on party food (I'd made some room in the freezer, but there wasn't much left on a Saturday night) but plenty of salamis and cheese and olives etc.

I was surprised to see Halloumi Fries (had assumed they were just for the summer).

We'll be trying their crispy duck pancakes and lobster mac n cheese on later this week to celebrate the end of term.

I have a hunch that we might be doing a post Christmas dash too!

GarytheRedNosedUnicorn · 15/12/2020 22:13

Fab, we're going tomorrow!

Queuing4Fergs · 15/12/2020 22:46

Fudge - clotted cream, gingerbread and salted caramel. All amazing.

In the summer they did a lovely cream filled sponge in the desert chiller.

Their One Pot vegan ready meals are fantastic. Really filling and good for the waistline as well as the conscience.

Lacura Rose hot cloth cleanser. Smells amazing and lovely on my sensitive skin

Takeaway garlic bread and sundried tomato pizza bread. Yum.

Paella ready meal in the family size. Very tasty.

Thai style prawn fish cakes.

Avoid their fabric conditioner, budget pizza and budget ham. Nasty.

CaveMum · 15/12/2020 22:48

Don’t forget their copycat Baileys - Ballycastle. I think it tastes better and is a third of the price at £4.99 a bottle!

Madcats · 16/12/2020 19:15

Just popping on to sing the praises of the frozen £5.99 prawn and white wine salmon Wellington.

It was a chunky piece of salmon with a fairly thin layer of sauce on top (didn't spot any prawns) in a pastry case with a lattice top.

I reckon it would have cost me a tenner to make myself.

gretagreengrapes · 17/12/2020 08:34

The Choceur chocolate orange wafer thins - not sure of their actual name but they are the shape of pringles but are thin chocolates 😍

lifestooshort123 · 19/12/2020 07:39

Our Aldi has a poor selection of bread, fruit and veg so I never go for a main shop. I'll try some things on this list as I've not been very impressed with some of their stuff in the past. Their imitation Jo malone candles are pretty good though.

Calmandmeasured1 · 19/12/2020 08:39

Salmon Wellington (both prawn and cheese sauces).
Root vegetable crisps.
Also prefer their torchion ham to that in other supermarkets.
Caledonian cheddar cheese.

f1silver · 19/12/2020 13:40

The green tea tree shampoo for kids (copy of Vosene)
The oat hand cream tube (Aveeno style)

OhWhyNot · 19/12/2020 13:46

Aldi cocoa truffles and the Belgian chocolate biscuits are delicious

Especially the truffles

isseys4xmastinselcats · 19/12/2020 13:47

the apple mini stollens not cheap but absolutely lush

Marmite27 · 19/12/2020 13:56

We like most things, with the exception on poppadoms (too salty) and lasagne ready meal (too much white sauce).

We really like the hand cut crisps, kids smoothies, and curry sauces with the powder and sauce.

The sliced chocolate chip brioche loaf and sliced tiger bread bloomer are dangerous.

I love the Moser Roth sea salt dark chocolate. I like the salted caramel, but not keen on the orange and almond. DH loves the mint, and likes the chilli. £1.50 for 100g in individually wrapped 25g bars.

The salted caramel and pretzel bars are lovely, and the jelly tots are a favourite - I’ve not seen them in any of the branches locally for a while though.

I like the Alska cider, the ‘beach front’ (I think it’s supposed to dupe barefoot’ Grenache, and I have a bottle of Zinfandel in to try. The gin ready mix cans in pink are nice, I didn’t like the purple. We like all the squash and cans of ‘tropical crush’ - lilt basically.

We’ve gone from Asda to Aldi, with a stop at Asda for a few preferred items every few weeks.
