@Feminist10101

Anything to do with cars. Can't change tyres, check oil or even pop the bonnet!

Can’t? My 10 year old DD can do those things. She can also identify all of the warning lights on the dash, knows most of the rules of the road and different speed limits and the basics of how the engine, clutch and brakes work.

There’s absolutely no reason anyone old enough to drive can’t do the things you’ve listed.

Really? Your 10 year old can change a tyre?

Blimey, way to ruin the spirit of the thread!
TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 05/12/2020 19:01

@Feminist10101

I can't do any of those car things a PP posted either.

How so? Can’t implies you’ve tried. They’re less complicated than making a cup of tea!

Ok so "I don't know how to do any of those car things a PP posted" would be more accurate. Happy now?
EllisRoses · 05/12/2020 19:04

Ha! You fool!

sneaks off to google how rice is made Blush

WhySoSensitive · 05/12/2020 19:05

Last time a thread like this went on... it got very heated that people were being cruel and bullying others because they didn’t know ‘simple’ things... and the whole thread was deleted. It was ridiculous.

On another note, I can’t get my head round African geography. I have to REALLY think about it and concentrate for it to make sense to me.

MaMisled · 05/12/2020 19:05

Found out last night that Transylvania is a real place.

Feminist10101 · 05/12/2020 19:05

With someone finishing the tightening, yes.

I changed the oil in my dad’s car aged 6.

These are excellent life skills to have and the sooner the better.

(I refurbished a house - including plastering and replacing electrics at 18. I’ve fitted and tiled all 4 bathrooms in this house including the slate floors, fitted the wooden flooring throughout the downstairs myself. I learned from my dad and DD is learning from me. I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t give their kids these skills. See also cooking, cleaning....)

SquirrelFan · 05/12/2020 19:06

I don't know any of those car things either. Don't have a car, never seen under a bonnet except in films.

Juniperandrage · 05/12/2020 19:06

You can’t stick a metal stick in a tube, pull it out and check where a liquid comes up to?

Why would I need to know how to do this if I can't drive? I don't even know what you would do this for in a car. Why would I need to? I don't know how to look after a horse either because I'm never going to have one, is that surprising too?

donquixotedelamancha · 05/12/2020 19:09

that's not quite true, there are quite a few other differences, longevity, bone structure and musculature, diet.

Whether a particular group gets called a horse, miniature horse or pony is just semantics.

They are not different sub-species like dogs and wolves. They are exactly the same species- like with cabbages and brussel sprouts.

There are no specific differences which define them, they are all Equus caballus.

do you speak to your friends like this?

formerbabe · 05/12/2020 19:14

Just waiting for someone to come on to say their two year old changed the brake pads on their car...

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 05/12/2020 19:17

I think OP forgot to put "lightheared" in the title HmmGrin

@Feminist10101 everyone can do different things. Some people can fix car stuff, some can't/don't know how. Some can do electrics, some can't. Same with plumbing, wallpapering, tiling etc. That's perfectly normal and ok!

I asked if your 10 year old can change a tyre not for a list of everything you've ever done.

ROFL

Of course all kids of 10 should be able to change a wheel. Hmm

Mine was 4? Am I winning ... 😉😂

She was changing tyres at 3 though! I can’t imagine why anyone would let a child get past the age of 5 without these kind of life lessons! 😂

Bully for you Feminist10101.

I know it's Nights in White Satin but if it comes on the radio and I sing along I "see" the word Knights.

I don't know what I don't know!

That what puzzled me 'paperview' is actually 'pay per view'. Didn't watch tv anyway, so never got the chance to be corrected.
