I have seen many times on social media, over the past week, people saying there is something else going on and the Covid rules are for a different reason entirely.
I just wondered if anyone truly believes the government have a different agenda for extending lockdown??

What, you think the government are taking down 'revolutionary' posts on Facebook now? That people would be gathering in cafes to spread ideas if they weren't shut? This isn't the seventeen hundreds.

They d be having freer conversations if they could meet in person.

Whether that leads to revolution, I doubt, but certainly many of us are careful what we say unless in person.

HappydaysArehere · 03/12/2020 10:42

There are always conspiracy theories; didn’t you know the Holocaust didn’t happen? That man didn’t land on the moon as it was a film set up.
There is always a conspiracy theory and given a pandemic with government guidelines and a vaccine to boot there it is on a plate. Take your pick. The vaccine contains a mind controlling drug telling us what to do and how to think! Wow! Better not have that. Happy days! Tell the scientists not to bother working around the clock to save lives! Go home to bed.

Turolive · 03/12/2020 11:31

If you lived in a country where the government monitored online communications and arrested people for criticising the government (unlike the UK), wouldn't it make more sense to use encrypted online communications?

Wouldn’t they just make it illegal to use encryption?

Haven’t fact checked any of this but this is being shared around by conspiracy friends on Facebook ...

AS RECEIVED
The Final Jigsaw in the Puzzle

Wuhan's Chinese biological workshop where it was confirmed as the source of the virus that causes Covid-19 has a substantial shareholding of Glaxosmith, which by coincidence owns Pfizer, which by coincidence manages Blackrock's finances, which by coincidence manages the finances of the Open Foundation Society (Soros), which by coincidence is the interests of French AXA, which by coincidence is the German company Winterthur that built the Chinese workshop, which was accidentally purchased by German Allianz, which is coincidentally widely held by Vanguard, who coincidentally owns a large proportion of Blackrock, who coincidentally has shareholding in all major banks, and together with Vanguard manages USD14 Trillion investment capital, which by coincidence is a large shareholder in Microsoft and Gates, which by coincidence is a shareholder of Pfizer and currently a major contributor to WHO.

Turolive · 03/12/2020 13:26

Wouldn’t they just make it illegal to use encryption?

They could but it would be difficult to enforce.

But as the UK government is not monitoring communications for revolutionary activity it's immaterial.

Maybe you should've fact checked it before spreading it then.
catx1606 · 03/12/2020 13:37

Have any of you actually taken the time to maybe look in to what is being said or are you all completely dismissing the theories.

The government has got most of us under control already. We're not going out, wearing masks, social distancing, all for a virus with a 99% recovery rate. The app is tracing our every move. Even most phones trace our whereabouts so it's already being done. Have any of you actually thought about that? Just because something isn't what you would consider, don't just dismiss it.

I know some conspiracy theorists who also happen to be highly intelligent

CloudPop · 03/12/2020 13:53

It's GlaxoSmithKline for a start, and they absolutely do no own Pfizer.

CloudPop · 03/12/2020 13:55

And Pfizer do not manage Blackrock's finances - why would a pharma company manage the finances of an investment management company? This is just literally garbage generated by some sort of chatbot

DappledThings · 03/12/2020 14:14

The Final Jigsaw in the Puzzle
That this description isn't even accurate as a metaphor is quite hilarious. Just a little insight into quite how thrown together this shite is.

Whatnext2018 · 03/12/2020 15:02

Even if it was true, how is that the final puzzle of the jigsaw? That it was all done to make money and simply that?

littledrummergirl · 03/12/2020 16:40

Quick Google shows that Glacosmithkline and phizer have merged some of their products into a new company called sk consumer health care. phizer owns 32%and gsk owns 68%.
This company holds the over the counter medications from both parent companies.

It has nothing to do with any prescription drugs or research as far as I can see, but it was a very quick check. I'm not sure but this may be what the conspiracy theorists are referring to.

littledrummergirl · 03/12/2020 16:41

Sorry gsk consumer health are.

Onedropbeat · 03/12/2020 16:59

@Turolive why? This is a thread for crazy conspiracies

I posted one that’s being shared so on topic I assume

It’s so rediculous I won’t waste my time

If people out there believe something shared specifically on a conspiracy topic for conspiracies then there is no belong them

Onedropbeat · 03/12/2020 17:01

@Whatnext2018

Even if it was true, how is that the final puzzle of the jigsaw? That it was all done to make money and simply that?
The post continued and made some random statement that made absolute no sense.

It’s all just so ridiculous that there are people sharing this as fact

thecatneuterer · 03/12/2020 17:20

As an additional one to the above, there is one that when we are all so worried about Covid-19, "they" will provide a "vaccine" that will (in reality) be a microchip that allows them to track us, and possibly control us. This latter one is very popular in the US as well, as it ties into some fundamentalist "end of days" Christians who believe that "chips" will be implanted into us all to control us

I so wish this technology existed! Just imagine how useful it would be for pet owners - no cats would ever go missing again - not only could you track them, you could actually make them come home/not go on the worktops/whatever. The inventors/providers would make a killing! Unfortunately trackable chips don't currently exist as a power source would be required to make the chip 'broadcast' - and you can't plug in your cat to charge overnight.

coldwarenigma · 03/12/2020 17:49

My known conspiracy theorist 'believes' the govt that covid is deadly and has taken every opportunity not to go to work for fear of spreading it to vulnerable family members, but 'doesn't believe that the vaccine is safe' and 'wont be having it' and 'its a conspiracy that 'they' have put in place to control popluations'
Hmm
Furlough pay and shielding happily accepted.. Hmm

PimpleMoose · 03/12/2020 17:59

There are always conspiracy theories with every pandemic. I remember them going around during the swine flu and bird flu outbreaks in the 2000s and 2010s, and apparently there was similar during the 1918 Spanish Flu and 1889 Russian Flu.

I guess the covid ones are more widespread in europe and north america are more prevalent because it's the first pandemic to significantly effect day to day life in those countries, post the creation of the internet.

Does anyone who thinks covid may be/involve a conspiracy, with the benefit of hindsight, believe any of the conspiracy theories for past pandemics?

malificent7 · 03/12/2020 18:03

I think control of the poulation is necessary to control the virus...not forcthe hell of it.

ArthursRoundTable · 03/12/2020 19:16

@Nomoreboobs

Does anyone think we could be at war somehow?
That would be scary. This was worrying on Sky news though: Risk of new world war is real, head of UK armed forces warns. General Sir Nick Carter said the global economic crisis caused by COVID-19 could also trigger new security threats, even war.

Hopefully all will be ok now the vaccine is on the way...

What were the conspiracies of the past that you're referring to?

Just for fun though. Here's a Reader's Digest story 12 crazy conspiracy theories that actually turned out to be true. All of these so-called “conspiracy theories” turned out to be legit.

Cornettoninja · 03/12/2020 20:17

That’s fair @ArthursRoundTable, but for balance you have to look at how many conspiracies aren’t true or are based on a wildly misinterpreted half-truth.
