Trumps speech reminded me of the time DD accidentally took double her dose of Ritalin.

A Military Times-Syracuse University poll this summer found that former Vice President Joe Biden had a four-point lead over President Donald Trump among surveyed military troops, typically considered a demographic that skews Republican.

Just how desperate for a job must you be to accept a position as one of Trump's lawyers? I mean, once you need another job your CV will get chucked in the bin by any decent company.

Phoenix21 · 06/11/2020 08:53

@LadyWithLapdog I’m jealous you had a week off to keep up!

I haven’t watched CNN at all.

The longest American race was in 1794 (or thereabouts) Nov-Jan 😱

I've been saying for days that adjesting Trump's medication must be a nightmare.

De-lurking to say thank you to all the knowledgeable posters on this series of threads, I've been following for a while, especially over the last few days as the election results have unfolded.

DH keeps asking me what the latest is. I've said to him it's exactly like watching a test match - at any point in the game you can see who's in the lead at that particular moment, but you can't say for sure who's going to win, and it's a judgement call on which way it's likely to go. Hopefully closing in on a Biden win now though!

Obviously with it being so close, Trump HAS to challenge the result.
But I wonder how big a margin would it have taken for him to meekly roll over and politely concede?
He always said - in the face of damning (yet ultimately inaccurate) polls- that the only way he could lose would be if election was fraudulent.

WindFlower92 · 06/11/2020 09:02

Can someone answer what is probably a stupid question - I added up the number of electoral college votes to go, and it seems that Trump won't hit 270 even if he wins all 4 remaining states? Is this right or have I missed something? First time following all this and it's so confusing!

DuncinToffee · 06/11/2020 09:03

This link has probably already been posted but it is good for seeing the numbers

Margin of error is 1%, so Georgia should go to a recount. Trump is a spoiler, he will do anything he can to draw this out.

Georgia down to 16 votes!

Marmite27 · 06/11/2020 09:07

Fuck me, 464 votes. This is nail biting!

Come on Georgia!

Marmite27 · 06/11/2020 09:08

I think it’s still 464 - Georgia has 16 Electoral Collage votes.

I’m watching CNN and have thought the same several times!

I don't think any margin would make him accept.

He's a narcissist; the votes, as far as he is concerned, are unquestionably his if they aren't then it's because they have been taken.

I can only imagine that even if it were a 90% to 10% split that it would be the huge margin would be proof it was fraudulent.

@SunniCameHomeWithAVengeance

I'm just up, 7AM in Ireland. I was watching Joe Biden talking last night and you could just see the genuine sorrow he has for those who have lost a loved one to Covid. He is someone who has suffered such loss himself and the compassion he has is heartening especially as Trump never seems sincere and always wants to bring the topic back to himself. I give Melania six months before she cashes in her chips and gets out. Hopefully Barron doesn't turn out like the rest of the Toxic Trumps.
Yes, I am fascinated by Melania. She’s like a silent ghostly presence trailing in T’s wake. Never speaks, never does anything. The awkward rictus smile, the total lack of any connection between them. Trump treating his daughter like she’s his wife. It’s all deeply creepy. What is her motivation to be there at all I wonder? Is she jubilant at the thought of getting out of the straight jacket at last?
BlueCatRedCat · 06/11/2020 09:13

Sorry, yes it's not 16!

Who pays for recounts? I assume that, under state rules, there is a margin for automatic recount, which will be paid for by the state. But in the case of a candidate challenging a decisive count, I assume they will have to pay for it. That would be a lot of money Trump would have to raise. He was well behind Biden on raising campaign funds.

He can still win. There are more ands in what he needs to win than Biden has, but it's still possible.

Ones to watch are Pennsylvania and Georgia.

BBC did an infographic about it, I'll try find it and post it for you.
