Trump just tweeted 'STOP THE COUNT'

If that happened, Biden would win

But what a thing to tweet

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 05/11/2020 14:29

Can you imagine any previous POTUS Tweeting that? Me neither.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 05/11/2020 14:30

He's a menace, @DuncinToffee. He shouldn't be allowed out in adult company.

Roussette · 05/11/2020 14:31

Agree Stirling
I can only watch CNN online as I;m UK.
If TV... Sky is best for me.

So it's 'Stop the Count' in the states that Trump is winning. But 'Count all the votes' where he is losing.

A tad hypocritical maybe?!

SabrinaThwaite · 05/11/2020 14:31

He shouldn’t be allowed out, full stop.

My late fil was first university educated boy from his very working class family. He was Conservative though because (according to Dh) felt Labour didn't offer anything for aspiring working class people. I think that the unions used to be seen to do that but that relied on them being a collective voice for workers in mass industries like coal and steel etc. When those industries were decimated in the 80s and unions were demonised by the Thatcher government the association that the unions had for the working class to improve their lot was undermined, outdated.

chloechloe · 05/11/2020 14:33

@EwDavid

Is the senate back in play again with the Georgia re-runs in January? If so that could be really hopeful.
It seems so and that lots of money will be thrown at campaigning there.
tobee · 05/11/2020 14:34

"An awful lot of everything is selling fear rather than hope, isn't it?"

Very much so!

Dongdingdong · 05/11/2020 14:35

News outlets like the Guardian (who called Arizona too early) are going to look a bit silly when Biden wins Nevada and takes their counter up to 270, but they still can't declare him the new POTUS.

I wish they'd just add Arizona back onto their list of states still to declare - it's very misleading!

DuncinToffee · 05/11/2020 14:35

Not allowing him out won't stop him tweeting, he needs to be restraint Hannibal Lecter style.

PerkingFaintly · 05/11/2020 14:38

Coming in veerrry late with my cuppa Brew.

Thread title making me very, very nervous!Shock I shall think of it as aspirational, not factual.Grin

The unions didn’t need to demonised by other people. Some of them did it to themselves in the seventies and eighties.

Some of the responses on the Trump Twitter thread are hilarious - The Count will not be stopped!

theDudesmummy · 05/11/2020 14:40

Yes I also wish that AP/Guardian would take Arizona off until we are sure...

lionheart · 05/11/2020 14:43

Thank you for the new thread Freddo.

That's about as coherent as I can manage after four years and the last few days of very little sleep indeed. Smile

The rage and aggression and the dirty sneaky tricks are pretty much what this Presidency has been about.

I do like your kangeroo map, North.

Blueberries0112 · 05/11/2020 14:44

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom

OK, so maybe I'm wrong about the incitement to riot, *@HoneysuckIejasmine*. I've just seen this breaking news in The Independent:

"The Trump campaign is planning to sue in Nevada, alleging that 10,000 people voted in the state despite no longer living there, Fox News reported.

According to an announcement from the president’s team, Ric Grenell, the former acting Director of National Intelligence, will make the announcement at a press conference in Las Vegas at 8.30am, local time."

Some of these people may be homeless because of coronavirus but it doesn't mean they aren't registered there
AcrossthePond55 · 05/11/2020 14:47

GW Bush, or rather Dick Cheney, was the one who did his best to break the unions.

This 'announcement' from Scrotus has me extremely nervous. He's very, very good at dog whistles. He'll do his version of "Will someone not rid me of this pestilential priest?" and his cult will hear the whistle.

I haven't even looked at any of the news sites or turned on the telly yet. DS2 has a job interview so we're trying to keep things calm here.

RedToothBrush · 05/11/2020 14:48

HUGE news from Pennsylviania.

The number of uncounted ballots has gone UP.

This is expected. The original number of uncounted ballots was only ballots recieved until Sunday. They have now received more VALID ballots.

This makes it almost impossible for Trump to win Pennsylviania.

Biden is on the home run, and all but there.

I think DH is pretty much calling it for Biden now. Its just a matter of time.

DH thinks that Georgia will drop for Biden too but its going to be just a few votes in it - postly only a few thousand.

AcrossthePond55 · 05/11/2020 14:49

Just saw blueberries copy of Jai's post.

I feel a bit better.

oddsbodkins · 05/11/2020 14:53

Georgia update:

UPDATE: 61k votes are outstanding in Georgia. 17,157 from Chatham; 11,200 from Fulton; 7,338 from Gwinnett; 4,713 from Forsyth; 3,641 from Harris; 1,797 from Laurens; 1,552 from Putnam; 1,202 from Sumter; 700 from Cobb.

Donald Trump currently leads by about 18,000 votes in the state, and the mail-in ballots that are being counted have favored Joe Biden. It’s expected to be an extremely close final result.

It will be tight!

allthesharks · 05/11/2020 14:55

Hi All, I've been lurking but this is the first time I've posted. Earlier there were 118,000 votes still to count in Georgia and Trump was 18,500 ahead. The Guardian are now saying there are 50,000 still to count and Trump is 18,100 ahead. If that's accurate then the last batch of 68,000 were fairly evenly tied.

3ormorecharacters · 05/11/2020 14:55

@Blueberries0112 indeed, I seem to remember hearing something in the run up to the election about Nevada and how a lot of its voters are hospitality workers who have lost their jobs due to Covid. I imagine lots have had to return to their home states but were probably still registered in Nevada. Nevada was one of the states which sent mail in ballots to all registered voters, which Trump decried at the time as being an invitation to fraud. Could be interesting. Hopefully Biden won't have to rely on Nevada anyway...

Roussette · 05/11/2020 14:56

RTB I have everything crossed your DH is right!

I'm reading that we won't know about Nevada or Arizona until tomorrow but
Pennsylvania could come good by tonight.

anon444877 · 05/11/2020 14:57

One thing America does better is pay quality political journalists, imho. There is still a journalist career that doesn't pay lifestyle journos to do the odd political piece as the murdoch etc papers here do, as a complete aside.

I'm delighted to hear about the ballots!!!!!

DuncinToffee · 05/11/2020 15:00

This thread by Nate Cohn seems to agree with RTB's husband
