Georgia is sounding terribly complicated Shock

15th November has been mentioned 😮

I feel sorry for some of these election officials, so much riding on this, lawsuits being thrown at them, hassle and abuse.... all whilst trying to do a good accurate job on a tight timescale.

chomalungma · 05/11/2020 20:20

Zoe Bartlett was played by Elizabeth Moss who was June in the HandMaid's tale.

Josh in the West Wing was played by Bradley Whitford who played one of the commanders in the HandMaid's Tale.

And of course, if you watch the American President movie, it has a lot of West Wing characters in there.

boatyardblues · 05/11/2020 20:21

Just watching the Amherst jurisprudence prof being interviewed on BBC News with framed boob artwork framing his head. Got a laugh here. Roll back to just before 8.20 if you need cheering up.

chomalungma · 05/11/2020 20:22

I have just been watching season 2 with Ainsley Hayes.

Tellmetruth4 · 05/11/2020 20:23

Melania’s trying to work out how she can get out in front of his creditors and divorce his grifting arse before the money’s all gone.

Another court issue:

US District Judge Emmet Sullivan has ordered the USPS to sweep all processing facilities, twice, in states that allow for properly postmarked ballots to count, if they arrive after Election Day.

The sweeps include USPS processing facilities in the critical, and still undecided, battleground states of Nevada, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

Ballots — postmarked by or on Election Day — can count in North Carolina and Pennsylvania, according to state law, if they are received on or before Nov. 6. In Nevada, ballots --postmarked by or on Election Day — can count in Nevada, according to state law, if they are received on or before Nov. 10.

The USPS must perform the first sweep in the morning, no later than 10 a.m. local time.

They must also sweep the facility in the mid-to-late afternoon, in time for any local ballots found to be delivered to the local election officials.

During a hearing Thursday, DOJ lawyers indicated that USPS district managers started the morning sweep for the day, before the order came into effect.

USPS must also report the number of ballots found during the sweep, and confirm they were delivered in time to meet the state deadlines.

Just watched the implementation manager in Georgia giving an update....The level of screw ups in different counties is just mind boggling, but atleast they are being transparent. Wouldn't give a definitive answer when they will be done but did say they have until the the end of next week to be completely done and dusted 😳

QuestionableDanceMoves · 05/11/2020 20:27

Georgia is so darn complex!

Could all these lawsuits/ calls for recounts etc be a purposeful motion to slow everything down because Trump knows they’re working to cut off deadlines?

Melania was an Obama/birther conspiracy proponent; wore that bloody horrible "I don't care" jacket when she went to see children in cages at the border (and played the innocent when called out on it); and completely screwed over her best friend, leaving her being investigated for fraud over missing inauguration expenses, when it is likely that her orange husband and his cronies pocketed the money. She really can go to hell too, I have no sympathy for her.

BlueCatRedCat · 05/11/2020 20:40

She is also a grifter.

Tellmetruth4 · 05/11/2020 20:44

‘She is also a grifter.’

This is true. She is no innocent victim in this.

Spin44gin · 05/11/2020 20:49

Rousette where do you find the funny memes about Nevada on Twitter? Wondering who to follow? Thanks!

Trump TV.
What a dreadful thought.

Cam77 · 05/11/2020 20:55

POTUS on Twitter right now, top 3 posts, every one of them flagged/banned because they are completely, not just a bit, but completely, full of shit. And yet he got 75 million votes. Honestly, I think the US is in serious trouble this coming century. China leapfrogging it as the Big Playa in town is the least of its worries.

Oh yeah of course that was Elizabeth Moss, never made the connection.

Believe The West Wing used The American President set also.

Cam77 · 05/11/2020 20:58

Fundamentally, I think the problem is that there is nothing grounding the country, no shared culture or worldview across the states, other than a much disputed Constitution (interpretations thereof) and some vague waffle about Freedom and Democracy.

RedToothBrush · 05/11/2020 20:59

President Trump’s lead in Georgia has been “shrinking consistently” since election night, CNN’s David Chalian said as he looked closer at what the President and Joe Biden need to win the Peach State.

“Statewide, Joe Biden would need 63% to 65% of those 48,000 votes that are left to be counted in order to overtake Donald Trump and win Georgia. Donald Trump only needs 34% to 36% of them," Chalian explained.

Currently, Trump has a 12,768-vote lead over the former vice president.

“These votes that are out there to be counted are coming from Democratic powerhouse areas in the suburbs, and it’s the mail vote, which is a Democratic-leaning universe of voters,” Chalian said.

“And so, Joe Biden has been collecting north of 63% to 65% in this last day in Georgia, as votes have been coming in, and if he continues to overperform what he needs here, he can remain quite hopeful that there’s a chance to overtake Donald Trump in Georgia.”

Gonna be close....

It's a mistake to think just in terms of what Trump wants to do, because he's never been the brains of the operation.

He'll be available to be front-man for whichever destructive organisation wants him, as long as it makes him feel like a king and Jesus and the most loved person ever.

Just as he was post-turtle for the elements of the right-wing which put him in the White House. He didn't get there himself. He was chosen by the Mercers and friends as their showman.

His cognitive issues are only going to become more acute, though, which will certainly make for an interesting ride...

This! So it's gone south for her now. Too bad, sooo sad.
AcrossthePond55 · 05/11/2020 21:11

@CaveMum

You can see there is genuine affection between Michelle Obama and George W Bush

What I loved was Dubya handing Michelle a peppermint candy at McCain's funeral. Such a sweet (no pun intended) gesture. And even more touching, he repeated the gesture at his father's funeral.

I didn't like Dubya as POTUS as I felt he was nothing but Cheney's puppet as well as being out of his depth, but I do think that personally he's probably a pretty nice guy.

worriedauntt · 05/11/2020 21:13

Do excuse me but I'm just place marking because my app won't watch the thread and I keep having to go through the last one.
