BBC are using Reuters News Agency for the Election and are working in conjunction with their 'sister' station CBS who they have a relationship with.

In the past the BBC would have used their own journalist network but they have shrunk the number of correspondents they have so rely on news agencies much more than in the past.

Agree that Biden has a poisoned chalice.
He still has Coronivrus to deal with , along with all the effect on economy.
Trust in elections is shot.
He is likely to have a hostile Senate, and a House that has to survive mid terms in 2022.
And Trump will be tweeting on the background all the time

CaveMum · 05/11/2020 19:54

@tobee

Bradley Whitford sigh!
Yeah, I was definitely more of a “Josh” fan than a “Sam” fan.

And CJ, sigh, ultimate girl crush. I want to be CJ when I grow up.

I think I need to start a new West Wing appreciation thread, it’s been ages since we had one!

Zixxy · 05/11/2020 19:56

Doesn't matter, Biden is not Trump. But I accept that there may be trouble ahead.

But that's for the advisers to sort out once Trump is gone they can move on.

NancysDream · 05/11/2020 19:56

@BruceAndNosh

Twitter can ban trump if he's not president though. He breaks their rules all the time, but they are not allowed to ban him whilst he's POTUS

Whitecottoncandy · 05/11/2020 19:56

@BruceAndNosh I agree but I’m really hoping Twitter might ban trump once he’s no longer president 🤞

So slow for results coming in and it’s still very close. DH said I woke him up at 3am last night mumbling did he win’ I think all the CNN is going to my head Brew

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 05/11/2020 19:57

Whilst we're talking concession speeches, John McCain got it right in a way Trump would never comprehend.

Apologies if I missed this being posted up-thread.

Trump's lead in Pennsylvania has eroded to about 100,000, down from over 600,000 less than 24 hours ago.

The remaining votes are all mail in and averaging about 80% in favour of Biden. He needs that to be 60% or more so looking good.

Whitecottoncandy · 05/11/2020 20:00

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom I posted George bush seniors earlier which was an excellent example of America first and professionalism. Will listen to mc cains now.

SanFranBear · 05/11/2020 20:02

Handy graphic on the BBC which covers where we're at - looking pretty hopeful, I must say 🤞

I remember Dubbya transition to Obama was apparently very gracious and supportive.

Can't see Trump & family extending the same courtesy to Joe & Jill.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 05/11/2020 20:03

From the guy who brought you “the reason there are so many cases is because we are doing too many tests” comes the new hit single “I’m only losing because they’re counting all the votes against me”

  • Rodger Sherman on Twitter.
Cam77 · 05/11/2020 20:05

A normal Rep/Dem candidate in this situation wouldn’t have conceded yet, but would be calming his supporters, readying them to accept the coming defeat. Trump is a narcissist asshole who places his ego above country.

Lweji · 05/11/2020 20:05

And CJ, sigh, ultimate girl crush. I want to be CJ when I grow up.

Also this.

And the First Lady. She was wonderful.

Whitecottoncandy · 05/11/2020 20:06

What an excellent speech from McCain. I actually think he would’ve been a great president in terms of someone to look up to. I dread to see the tantrum that will (hopefully) be Trump’s concession speech. I have no doubt it will be disgusting.

Unfortunately the bigotry and racism mc cain referenced as being in the past is alive and well.

Roussette · 05/11/2020 20:07

Personally, I'm not sure that Trump will carry on tweeting in the background after the initial rage. Once it gets past the inauguration (if he loses... I have to keep saying that, don't want to jinx anything) I think he will be fading away back to Trump Org or some other venture.

This loss (if it happens) is going to hurt him beyond comprehension. Losing anything is the worst thing ever. he's hinted more than once.... if I lose, you'll never see me again, if I lose, I'll go somewhere else, etc etc.

Deutsche Bank are pulling the rug from under him, he has outstanding lawsuits... I think he'll rant and rave for quite a few months.. then I think he will start a new venture TrumpTV maybe. So he might be a thorn in the flesh of Biden but I think those who were all over him like a rash will back away slowly and he will inevitably become somewhat of an irrelevance and toxic.

But perhaps all this is wishful thinking...

Georgia update happening...

BlueCatRedCat · 05/11/2020 20:08

My DH thinks that Trump will not be able to stand being gracious on inauguration day, and standing by on the podium, while Biden gets sworn in. Continuing to argue that the election result is illegitimate will be his reason for being absent.

Roussette · 05/11/2020 20:09

I agree Blue. I don't think for one minute Trump will be at the inauguration. He breaks every rule and protocol, this won't be different.

CaveMum · 05/11/2020 20:09

The Bush daughters showed the Obama girls around the Residence and introduced them to all the back room staff - cooks, cleaners, etc.

You can see there is genuine affection between Michelle Obama and George W Bush www.businessinsider.com/michelle-obama-george-w-bush-friendship-history-photos-2019-12?r=US&IR=T#bush-spoke-to-people-about-their-friendship-in-2017-7

Can you see Melania behaving like that with Joe Biden?! 😂

HoneysuckIejasmine · 05/11/2020 20:10

Did Trump do his little presser in Vegas?

CaveMum · 05/11/2020 20:12

Yes! Before West Wing, Stockard Channing was always “Rizzo”, but she is now very firmly “Dr Abigail Bartlett”! I love that Susan Calman named one of her cats after the character!
Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 05/11/2020 20:15

Attorney General of Michigan,Dana Nessel, on Twitter just now:
Dear members of the public: Please stop making harassing & threatening calls to my staff. They are kind, hardworking public servants just doing their job. Asking them to shove sharpies in uncomfortable places is never appropriate & is a sad commentary on the state of our nation.

nauticant · 05/11/2020 20:15

Melania might be thinking about this change as her chance to bail out. It's not been possible to even consider this for the past 5 years. Can you imagine what life would be looking like to her now stuck with a bitter ranting Trump without the glitz of the presidency?

And create a martyr. And a mass exodus from twitter to a rival platform which is likely to be just right wing.
