Adding; yes, Biden & McConnell have had a very cordial and respectful relationship in the past. Unfortunately McConnell has drunk the Scrotus Kool-Aid and has learnt to enjoy wielding 'absolute' power as Senate Leader, as in 'power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely'. I don't think you can come back from that.

Sounds about right.

Nevada should be safe. It looks like the votes in the red counties are no where near matching the ones coming in from the blue ones. And there are more blue county votes than red to come.
Arizona will tighten a bit more but should hold. There are more blue counties to be counted there yet and the red ones are closing the gap on Biden enough. Biden camp are saying they expect the win to be in the 'tens of thousands'.
Pennsylviania is just a question of how long it takes to count before Biden over takes Trump. There are a significant number of votes left in Philly to be counted too. There are a lot of votes that have been recieved today so the number of votes to be counted has increased several times and there probably are some more to come on that. The only issue with Pennsylviania is how much disruption to the count legal challenges bring. You should expect Trump to focus on this most in his world class hissy fit, simply because if he loses Pennsylviania it will all be over.
Georgia is still on an absoluete knife edge. It could be within a thousand votes either way. The big news from Georgia isn't the Presidential Election now though, it looks like its the run off for the Senate on 5th January. Which may decide who controls it. Either way its a potential flash point.
North Carolina has gone quite quiet. It looks as if its probably safe for Trump now.

It does seem to just be a matter of time now. I'm relieved and will sleep better tonight.

Nevada mail in ballots deadline is the bloody 11th of November. Doubtless the Trump team will suddenly want to wait for them to arrive

BruceAndNosh · 05/11/2020 18:05

apologies, reporter say 10th for nevada, Blame the Guardian

QuestionableDanceMoves · 05/11/2020 18:05

Do we know how many votes are left to be counted in Georgia?

RedToothBrush · 05/11/2020 18:08

@QuestionableDanceMoves

Do we know how many votes are left to be counted in Georgia?
As of 12:45 p.m. ET, there are approximately 50,401 ballots still outstanding across Georgia, according to a statement by Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.

Fulton County — the largest county in the state and home to Atlanta —has finished processing ballots, the county commissioner said in a news conference.

@bluecatredcat whilst I don't fully understand the intricacies of the American system I've had similar concerns about an incumbent president who cannot get anything passed, particularly as the democrats don't seem to be able to stand up to the Republicans even when they could legitimately like with Amy Coney Barrett.

Phoenix21 · 05/11/2020 18:11

This is torture. I really feel it for the Americans.

tobee · 05/11/2020 18:12

@BruceAndNosh

Which is largely true but feels like a Biden admin is already a failure before he's even elected

Doesn't matter, A bad Biden is still better than Trump

Of course! Smile

TokyoSushi · 05/11/2020 18:13

I go away for an hour (to sort out DD's hell hole of a bedroom) and Biden's at 264! What happened?!

So close now!!!

HoldMyLobster · 05/11/2020 18:14

So here's something funny.

It was actually Fox that originally called Arizona for Biden. Trump was furious. There's more about that here.
www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/fox-news-election-night-arizona/2020/11/04/194f9968-1e71-11eb-90dd-abd0f7086a91_story.html

It looks like Biden is going to win Nevada.

At which point, based on a call that Fox originally made, Biden can claim to have won the election.

(The AP has also since called Arizona, but even so, it's kinda fun.)

HoldMyLobster · 05/11/2020 18:16

I so wish I could be a fly on the wall in the White House right now.

TokyoSushi · 05/11/2020 18:16

Ah 253 on BBC, 264 on the Guardian

That's doesn't really seem fair though, everyone already voted and they can't change their mind but these people can
CherryValanc · 05/11/2020 18:17

Found you!!! Thanks @CaveMum and @BoreOfWhabylon for helping me get here!!!

Just had a look at CNN site, it's looking a bit more positive isnt it. Could almost start being optimistic 🤞

tobee · 05/11/2020 18:18

@IDontMindMarmite

This whole process of releasing results before all the votes have been counted, is ridiculous. Everything changes all the time. It's turned this into reality TV. The cheesy dramatic music. It's not very credible.

And releasing predictions for states before polls have shut seems an anathema.

Goosefoot · 05/11/2020 18:19

@BlueCatRedCat

Doesn't matter, A bad Biden is still better than Trump

Not sure I agree with this. Biden needs 4 senate seats to get a majority. Even with 2 special elections, that's going to be a tall order. A hamstrung Obama, unable to deliver the reform he had promised, resulted in good feelings towards him personally, but not much else that tangibly improved the lives of the worst off. So people - including huge numbers of Obama supporters - turned to a snake oil salesman in the form of Trump, leaving the Dems naval gazing for 4 years and unable to come up with an inspirational enough candidate and message to deliver a landslide in the face of the worst human being to ever hold the most powerful position in the world.

Trump won't go away, nor will his cult. He can still run in 2024, he will still be younger than Biden, and he seems to be sponsored by Duracell. Biden will inherit Trump's Covid mess, the situation is too out of control now for him to pull off a miracle. He will get blamed for the fallout, the deaths and the fucked economy - Trump will make sure he does. Trump out of power will just do rally after rally, increasing his cult following. And people will once again turn away from the Democrats when the 2022 Senate and Congressional elections are held. The Dems may well lose both houses again come 2022. Then when the 2024 Presidential election comes around, what state will they be in? It's a bloody shit show, whoever wins.

It's true, Biden might not be able to accomplish much. But I wonder what he would do that was significant even if he did have a senate majority?

My concern is that he will govern like the Democrats have for the last two of their presidencies, the ones that preceded the election of Trump. If he does, it will do nothing to really engender a different outcome in the future.

Trump will be too old and won't care about being president again, IMO. But there is always another guy who can speak to people's desire for radical solutions, charm them, and the next one might have much more of a political goal than Trump could really muster up.

DuncinToffee · 05/11/2020 18:19

Georgia updated: Trump lead cut again to 13,540. 2% of the vote remains to be counted.

@Dongdingdong

Maybe Trump will just bide his time and charge back in and seize the crown in 2024 against ineffectual Democrats

Possibly, but I think it’s more likely to be Ivanka Trump than Donald.

Yes. Could DT Snr really want to campaign again in 2024? At 78? And risking losing again? Depends if his ego needs the boost I guess.

Hopefully he'll be tucked up in jail.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 05/11/2020 18:22

Nevada guy in charge of election doing news conference- says they hope to have the majority of mail votes in and counted by Sat/Sun and they will stay up all night Nov 10 to ensure everything else received is counted by then. It sounds complicated and he sounds thoroughly fed up with the harassment etc.

tobee · 05/11/2020 18:23

I definitely just most want Trump gone from WH
