@IDontMindMarmite

This whole process of releasing results before all the votes have been counted, is ridiculous. Everything changes all the time. It's turned this into reality TV. The cheesy dramatic music. It's not very credible.
Can you imagine that happening in UK elections?
RedToothBrush · 05/11/2020 17:21

So Trump has fallen out with his lawyers as he tantrums about how he is officially a loser.

BefuddledPerson · 05/11/2020 17:21

Placemarking. Again! Count faster Grin

SabrinaThwaite · 05/11/2020 17:22

Biden lead in Nevada has increased slightly (that was the 5pm update I guess), but count on-going.

Roussette · 05/11/2020 17:24

My nerves are in shreds, and I have too many tabs open. CNN seem the most informative.

RTB thank your DH for some really informative stuff

Checking in.

AAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH

Another big tell: no A-list lawyers signed up even to file a Supreme Court brief seeking intervention in the PA case.

This is what I was touching on earlier. Maybe Trump will just bide his time and charge back in and seize the crown in 2024 against ineffectual Democrats or maybe there will be a sense of Trumpism having been discredited and some will view it as a toxic brand.

Assuming Trump loses of course.

GetTheDoorFrank · 05/11/2020 17:26

Ahh finally found you all again

Possibly, but I think it’s more likely to be Ivanka Trump than Donald.

DuncinToffee · 05/11/2020 17:26

Update in Nevada: gap widening FOR Biden: gone up from 7647 to 12042. t.co/hgl28teO8

RedToothBrush · 05/11/2020 17:27

We believe Neveda is safe for Biden.

3ormorecharacters · 05/11/2020 17:28

@BlueCatRedCat I have exactly the same worries about a lame duck Biden presidency. I wonder if it would have been better to lose the Presidency but gain the Senate. Then at least there could have been some proper oversight of Trump. In balance though in this situation I'd rather have Biden as President regardless. If only because it will probably mean a softer Brexit! And rejoining the Paris Climate Accord etc. Maybe he'll even figure out a way to work across the aisle which will ultimately be healing. Maybe...

I've wondered this.

I read/heard today that McConnell and Biden have respect for each other and word is they might be able to work together better than Obama/McConnell. No idea how true this is

nauticant · 05/11/2020 17:36

Biden is starting to pull away into safer numbers in Nevada.

PullTheBricksDown · 05/11/2020 17:36

There will of course be all sorts of downsides to Biden as president. Any action has disadvantages. But I don't see a future Trump as as big a threat. I don't think he'll want to run again because he will be afraid of losing, whereas first time out, he had nothing to lose trying his luck against Hillary. And he gets bored easily. I think he'll be glad of being able to be an irritant outside the constraints of the White House. The new Farage for the US.

Radiatornoise · 05/11/2020 17:37

I wish the Baby Trump balloon would reappear.

Lweji · 05/11/2020 17:39

I've been thinking the same.

Although a Trump without House or Senate support might turn to war to stamp his mark.

PullTheBricksDown · 05/11/2020 17:40

Biden has had a long career of working with others and building consensus. That was the message earlier for how he will work with the Senate and that is positive I think.

Lweji · 05/11/2020 17:41

He is an old white male. So, he's in the club.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 05/11/2020 17:51

Can I say thanks to you all for making me interested in politics for once in my life!

Something occurred to me from a few things said on the previous page :

  • people would vote for anyone but a woman,
  • the Democrats needed to front their campaign who could stand up to the Republicans' bullying
  • if the president can't carry on the vp takes over
  • Biden's vp is a woman
  • Biden seems, on occasion, to not be entirely well

Could this be their way of getting a female president in through the back door? I'm presuming not really, but it has made me wonder.

TBH, I think a Biden Presidency is going to be more about national healing and binding of wounds than it's going to be about breaking new ground. It's a 'breathing space' for four years and also time to (hopefully) show how capable Kamala is to step into the 'top job' in 2024.

It's going to take 4 years to undo some of the damage done; get us back into the Paris Accord, WHO, & any other Int'l 'breaches' created by Scrotus. Also, reversing any EOs damaging to the environment, immigration, etc. And defending the ACA, abortion rights, and other personal freedoms we've lost. I don't expect to see any 'spectacular' or radical changes.
