To feel sorry for Trump?

tartanti · 04/11/2020 21:27

I’ve name changed for this as I know I will get completely flamed. But AIBU to secretly feel a little bit sorry for Trump? He campaigned so hard for this election compared to Biden and seemed to put his absolute all into it.

The amount of hate he gets on social media is astounding - I honestly don’t know how one person can handle all that and keep on going. I would have had a nervous breakdown or worse by now if I was on the receiving end of that.

His kids clearly love him and they seem alright - perhaps he’s not so bad behind the scenes? I think losing this election will destroy him as a person and whilst I don’t agree with his political viewpoint, I can’t help but feel slightly sorry for the guy.

AIBU?

The pussy grabbing comment was a crude comment he made when he thought the microphone was off but you hear the kind of nonsense from men in pubs up and down the country.

Tut, boys will be boys Hmm

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 04/11/2020 23:29

I'll feel sorry for him only if he stands on a lego brick with bare feet.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 04/11/2020 23:30

some element of self doubt must creep in

Well let's hope so! Some reflection would be helpful too. Oh op....what are you on?

slashlover · 04/11/2020 23:33

so where is the sexism

How about when he owned the Miss Universe pageant?

“You know, no men are anywhere. And I’m allowed to go in because I’m the owner of the pageant. And therefore I’m inspecting it… Is everyone OK? You know, they’re standing there with no clothes. And you see these incredible-looking women. And so I sort of get away with things like that,”

“I made the heels higher and the bathing suits smaller.”

“He just came strolling right in,” Dixon said. “There was no second to put a robe on or any sort of clothing or anything. Some girls were topless. Others girls were naked. Our first introduction to him was when we were at the dress rehearsal and half-naked changing into our bikinis.”

Four women who competed in the 1997 Miss Teen USA beauty pageant also said the Republican used to walk in. Some of the girls were as young as 15.

AlexaShutUp · 04/11/2020 23:34

But when he’s lying in bed, alone in the silence and the dark, surely some element of self doubt must creep in?

I think he's deeply insecure and riddled with self doubt, but his way of dealing with this is not to reflect on his own behaviour/consider whether he could have done anything differently, but rather to dwell in the fantasy land that he has created in which he can do no wrong and anything negative that happens is someone else's fault.

thecatsatonthewall · 04/11/2020 23:35

The proud boy comment was a poor attempt at sarcasm - I watched the debate and don't believe he actually endorses the group, if he did I would agree it was racist

"Proud boys, stand back, stand by" For what exactly? Are you that naive?
Everything in the Trump playbook is about antagonise, lie and stir.

His attitude to CV has helped kill 240k Americans, if there was any justice in this world he and the other right wing populist leaders such as Johnson and Bolsonaro would be in jail.

Never heard men in a pub boasting they grab women by the pussy plus they ain't POTUS - leader of the free world.

Zezet · 04/11/2020 23:35

I think his self-doubt is eternal...

If I have an ounce if empathy to spare still after these horrid years, it will be for the children still ripped from their parents; for the parents still missing their children; for the victims of the law enforcement forces that he actively encouraged to kill; for the disabled people he mocked; the soldiers with PTSD he chided; the women he agressed.

You're probably a nice person for feeling that way and wanting to decrease your sense of conflict there is in this world. But there are so many people right now that need our empathy and understanding and thoughts or prayers, and he is probably last on my list.

And I think the huge efforts we have collectively made to try and understand and justify him (but not to humanize his victims) are in themselves a bias and a misappropriation of our shared emotional resources.

lol, I never said I approved of it , but many males in politics will have said much worse. If a female in private said " They love it when I grab their d1ck" I suspect it would be viewed as crude nonsense but when Trump says it people take this to mean he hates women as a misogynist etc
Smallgoon · 04/11/2020 23:36

Let's feel sorry for the man who openly gropes female 'pussies'. Yes, let's.

You're trolling OP, aren't you?

BrimfulOfBaba · 04/11/2020 23:38

I wonder if you'd feel sorry for him if it was your babies he put in cages/your ethnicity he called rapists/your daughter who's pussy he tried to grab, etc.

Mrsjayy · 04/11/2020 23:38

he said his daughter had a fine figure and would just be his type if she wasn't his dd if that isn't creepy and sexist then.. oh and he liked a Jeffrey epstein party allegedly!

thisnthat · 04/11/2020 23:39

Seriously?

SERIOUSLY?!

I cannot put into words the contempt I feel for Trump. He is a despicable human being who deserves every speck of self loathing that must inevitably come to him at some point. And I am the soppiest, most forgiving person ever. Trump does not deserve an iota of anyone’s sympathy. Ever.

SabrinaThwaite · 04/11/2020 23:39

@Dan1980

Can you provide an actual eg of racism

Are you suggesting that he hasn’t been sued for racism?

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 04/11/2020 23:40

Dan why do you keep bringing up other men, politicians, Obama, into the conversation? We're not talking about them we're talking about Trump. What other men do doesn't excuse what Trump does.

And yes you are excusing him.

SabrinaThwaite · 04/11/2020 23:41

"His attitude to covid killed 240 k Americans" .. what attitude is that then? The one that closed borders to China trying to stop infections at an early stage? There are many countries which have a worse rate of deaths per million than the USA - Brazil , Spain , Peru , Belgium etc to name just a few. Presumably all the leaders of those countries are murderers as well then?

If Trump closes up borders he is a racist , if he doesn't he is a murderer. A man talking crudely about women in a sexual way to another male in private is hardly an eg of misogyny.

GiantKitten · 04/11/2020 23:42

@1stV45

TroysMammy
What happened to that wall he was going to build?

I think 400miles has been built.
This election is close. We appear to unanimously think he's despicable and embarrassing but millions of Americans don't confused

400 miles? Where did you get that from? Some of the existing barrier (mostly fence, not wall) has been rebuilt or strengthened. New barrier amounts to a whopping 15 miles Hmm

To feel sorry for Trump?
megletthesecond · 04/11/2020 23:44

His older kids aren't alright. They're just as messed up and dodgy as he is.
Hopefully Baron has some good teachers who are keeping him on the straight and narrow.

BorderlineHappy · 04/11/2020 23:46

Biden even with a supportive and sympathetic press can't hide that he is loosing his cognitive abilities. I'll be amazed if he's fit for office by January

They will put Harris in then. She would never get in on her own merits, being black and a women in America.Even though that should never be the case.

So they used a white old man to get her in to office.

And Trump cant blame anyone but himself.
He didnt believe in Covid ,until he realised it might help him stay in office. Then he caught it and recovered from it in record time.

Trump will be ok op ,people like him always are.

chestnutshell · 04/11/2020 23:46

I kind of know what you mean. I remember feeling really dreadful for Michael Portillo the first time I saw the clip of the Portillo moment (bit young to have witnessed it live). I disagree with him on many many things and I really liked Stephen Twigg winning that seat but I just cringed for Portillo and felt sympathy.

But Trump? No. Never.

SabrinaThwaite · 04/11/2020 23:46

Trump’s long history of racism is detailed here:

VettiyaIruken · 04/11/2020 23:47

Dan, I realise you are determined to defend your precious trump and act like you are owed personal accounts of specific examples with video proof, 26 witnesses and a notary stamped statement but who gives a shit if Joe blogs down the pub is also a misogynistic sack of crap? He's not president of America. He is, however, a misogynistic crapsack. As is trump.

OhhCarolina · 04/11/2020 23:47

OP you are clearly a decent person and are therefore making the mistake of assuming Trump is likewise, that he has similar sensibilities to you, similar motivations, similar pauses.

However, he is not and does not. How you relate to the world bears no resemblance to how you relate to it.

You're putting yourself in his shoes but you need to put him in his shoes and go from there, and then ask yourself if he is a figure deserving of your sympathy, in the context of who is is and what he's done. Just step outside yourself and all will become clear.

Dan1980 · 04/11/2020 23:48

You're accusing Trump of misogyny for a comment said in private and I'm saying it's no evidence of misogyny.

I'm bringing Obama up because the cages you accuse or whoever it is accusing Trump of caging kids were constructed and used in the Obama/Biden era which is where many of the photos were taken from... even Biden apologised for that yet all the mad rants are directed to Trump

OhhCarolina · 04/11/2020 23:48

That should read *How you relate to the world bears no resemblance to how he relates to it."
