To feel sorry for Trump?

I’ve name changed for this as I know I will get completely flamed. But AIBU to secretly feel a little bit sorry for Trump? He campaigned so hard for this election compared to Biden and seemed to put his absolute all into it.

The amount of hate he gets on social media is astounding - I honestly don’t know how one person can handle all that and keep on going. I would have had a nervous breakdown or worse by now if I was on the receiving end of that.

His kids clearly love him and they seem alright - perhaps he’s not so bad behind the scenes? I think losing this election will destroy him as a person and whilst I don’t agree with his political viewpoint, I can’t help but feel slightly sorry for the guy.

AIBU?

@Mittens030869 oh, that's shit. Sad I'm sorry, I hope you continue to mend.

GenevaL · 08/11/2020 12:17

YABU. He’s a racist nazi-sympathiser, he’s aggressive, vicious, personally attacking, a bully, vindictive, spoiled, petulant, narcissistic, cruel, shallow, a liar, a sexual attacker, a misogynist, arrogant, divisive, obsessed with genes and his own superiority. I feel sorry for the people he has hurt, not him.

KaptainKaveman · 08/11/2020 12:37

Yep, I'd agree with that assessment 👍

AdoraBell · 08/11/2020 12:43

Hope you begin to feel better very soon Mittens

switswooo · 08/11/2020 14:09

@JesusInTheCabbageVan sorry I see you did say you don’t feel sorry for him!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/11/2020 14:33

@switswooo haha, no worries! Ironically, I seem to spend the rest of my time on here getting told off for not feeling sorry enough for him Grin

I'm also feeling quite shirty today because I celebrated a bit too enthusiastically last night and now feeling Envy So in fact even less well disposed towards DT than usual!

Mittens030869 · 08/11/2020 14:35

@AdoraBell @JesusInTheCabbageVan

Thank you for the kind words. A lot of people have been through the wringer this year as a result of Covid, either from having it or losing loved ones, or because of the lockdown measures.

So I definitely don't feel any sympathy for Trump. He's allowed 230k plus deaths from Covid to happen without showing the slightest empathy for the victims and their families.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/11/2020 14:44

@Mittens030869 Flowers

I was wondering earlier whether even one single healthcare worker in the whole of the U.S. voted for him. They must be beyond exhaustion right now.

Mittens030869 · 08/11/2020 14:50

@JesusInTheCabbageVan That's so true, they really must be exhausted. I know that healthcare workers on the ICU Covid wards in this country have been suffering from PTSD.

So I definitely won't waste my sympathy on someone who hasn't given a toss about any of this.

Haha I’ve not got that excuse for being shirty today! I still have visions of DT stopping the proceedings like a jilted ex at a wedding, can I blame it on that?!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/11/2020 17:47

Be more like Freddy Kreuger coming back after they think they've defeated him. 😬

Mimishimi · 08/11/2020 21:39

Death camps people. Death camps. That's what people like Trump and Bush have historical family links to.

TooTrueToBeGood · 09/11/2020 01:19

I've now got a mental image of the wedding scene from The Graduate, only it's not Dustin Hoffman hammering on the glass at his ex-girlfriend's wedding, its' Trump at Biden's inauguration ceremony. Except of course, Hoffman got the girl in the end whereas Trump isn't getting anything other than a lifetime of being mocked and derided for being a total bellend.

His supporters are 100% behind him and think the election result will be declared fraudulent. I have seen delusional comments from friends on FB in Texas. Unbelievable how stupid people are.
CitizenClem · 09/11/2020 06:33

There is a sort of Shakespearean quality to his downfall which is on one hand is a joy to watch, and on the other hand, it is hard not to feel some sympathy for having brought all this on himself and to see his reputation be destroyed through his own stupidity

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 09/11/2020 07:11

Interesting insight Citizen. He does seem to have been hoisted by his own petard.

CitizenClem · 09/11/2020 08:39

Thanks. If he had some sense and humility, he could have conceded the election, wished Biden the best, gone on to try (through supporting other candidates, elections) to support politicians who were going to continue his agenda, so he could position himself as a kingmaker, and act with some dignity.

What fascinates me if how quickly power has left him. There's a famous cartoon by Thackeray which shows how the trappings of power turn a weak man into some supposed great figure. Once the trappings are gone, the weak man remains.

I was reminded of this in this photo I saw of Trump returning from his golf course this weekend. It's over, and he looks so weak and pathetic.

I like that cartoon, very apt. It reminds me of the Emperor’s New Clothes tale.

If feels like a communal game of Let’s Pretend has come to an end but Donald Trump wants to carry on parading in his invisible robes long after the small boy has called out the truth and America has listened.

AnnPerkins · 09/11/2020 09:42

Can you actually imagine him feeling sorry for anybody or anything?

MoonJelly · 09/11/2020 09:47

Yes! Suddenly people who previously supported him, or at least didn't contradict him, out of fear and/or respect are emboldened to say outright that what he says is not to be believed. And he simply can't handle that.

I might have more respect for him if he were behaving with some dignity now instead of sulking off to the golf course and running to lawyers to pursue cases he has been told are hopeless. He is still president, the pandemic in the US is getting worse and worse, but his priority is still no-one but Donald Trump.

GiantKitten · 09/11/2020 11:55

I’m hoping Trump’s “fraud” investigations will end up finding lots more like this.

To feel sorry for Trump?
chickenyhead · 09/11/2020 11:59

Having read his various machinations on a page as iffy as Wikipedia, I am genuinely worried about the number of people he seems to have in his pocket, or have something on.

He has nothing to lose in forcing this all the way, given all of the debts due to crystallise in the next few years.

There is nothing more dangerous than a man like him.

But I did love the four seasons f up and associated merch

blueangel19 · 11/11/2020 16:41

Well, unfortunately he got more votes than the whole population of the UK.

And Biden got some borrowed votes from the Republicans....

A good move would be not fight hate with hate.

chickenyhead · 11/11/2020 16:47

What is a borrowed vote?
