To feel sorry for Trump?

I’ve name changed for this as I know I will get completely flamed. But AIBU to secretly feel a little bit sorry for Trump? He campaigned so hard for this election compared to Biden and seemed to put his absolute all into it.

The amount of hate he gets on social media is astounding - I honestly don’t know how one person can handle all that and keep on going. I would have had a nervous breakdown or worse by now if I was on the receiving end of that.

His kids clearly love him and they seem alright - perhaps he’s not so bad behind the scenes? I think losing this election will destroy him as a person and whilst I don’t agree with his political viewpoint, I can’t help but feel slightly sorry for the guy.

AIBU?

@Pumperthepumper

I can’t wait until he’s an embarrassing memory in America’s history, and nothing more.
The problem is that he won't go quietly although he did say that if he lost he might retire to his golf course in Scotland. Nicola can make him feel very welcome, lucky woman!
SabrinaThwaite · 04/11/2020 23:08

@AlexaShutUp

Then you’ll understand that hubris often lead to an almighty fall in classical literature.

Oh, and in ancient times referred to sexual assault.

Which seems quite pertinent.

tartanti · 04/11/2020 23:09

Unless you think he's clearly out of his depth.

Well, there’s no doubt he was that!

Tillygetsit · 04/11/2020 23:11

He's an absolute disgrace. Pussy grabbing, child caging, violence inciting, racist homophobic sexist prick. Feel sorry for him?
Jesus!

@Dan1980

Trumps racist for calling covid the " Chinese virus " ... ah ok so where did it come from then?
He also called it Kung Flu Hmm

You got an opinion on his stance on the Proud Boys Dan?

Mrsjayy · 04/11/2020 23:12

Oh god yes the golf resort if he comes to Scotland I think there would outrage he wouldn't be welcomed. I think former presidents need to stay in the U S for security reasons or something Confused

YANBU OP

Dan1980 · 04/11/2020 23:17

The proud boy comment was a poor attempt at sarcasm - I watched the debate and don't believe he actually endorses the group, if he did I would agree it was racist.

I'm not sure you can quantify the " kung flu" comment as racist, it's crass and a bit silly but the virus came from China. The reality is Trump closed his borders to China early on which was sensible yet was called a xenophobe and racist by many at the time.

NoSquirrels · 04/11/2020 23:17

@tartanti

Thanks to those of you who’ve reminded me of some of his dreadful policies - that is making me feel much less sympathy.

I would like to emphasise that I totally disagree with his politics. But I just can’t help feeling a bit sorry for someone facing such huge humiliation and hate on a worldwide scale. I would completely crumple and it would kill me!

Your problem, OP, is that you’re applying sympathy and empathy to a man who has and needs none.

You might crumple under worldwide scorn. Trump isn’t governed by any of those things you feel.

He really doesn’t need your pity or worry.

AlexaShutUp · 04/11/2020 23:18

Then you’ll understand that hubris often lead to an almighty fall in classical literature.

Yes, but that's the whole point, isn't it?

If someone is the architect of their own almighty fall, I cannot help but pity them when they start to realise what they have done and how they have brought that humiliation on themselves. Even though I might hate what they have done, I feel for them on a human level when the reality starts to dawn on them. It's thoroughly deserved, but pitiable nonetheless.

I don't feel that with Trump, though, because he has zero awareness of his own role in his defeat. He has no self awareness at all.

Reading this thread I thought a new Omen film had been made in reality and the anti Christ had arrived lol

Gettingmycoat · 04/11/2020 23:19

He’s a narcissist.
You sound like one of his victims.

GabsAlot · 04/11/2020 23:20

you need a lie down

his children seem ok really theyre just mini mes

switswooo · 04/11/2020 23:20

@tartanti

More likely a lust for his power.

This made me laugh - I’m the least lusting after power sort of person you could possibly meet Grin

It's biological, you probably aren't consciously aware of it Grin

But he's not crumpling. He's already declared himself the winner and is planning how to steal the election.

Can you provide an actual eg of racism or homophobia and explain why it is racist rather than a newspaper link? The pussy grabbing comment was a crude comment he made when he thought the microphone was off but you hear the kind of nonsense from men in pubs up and down the country. The child cages were constructed in the Obama era so where is the sexism.. he has recently appointed a female judge in the Supreme court so wait for that as well

He's done everything he can in this election to try to suppress voters and set it up perfectly to give him a reason/excuse to call fix.

He told all his supporters to vote in person while postal votes have traditionally been used more by the Democrats, and even more so with Covid. He then appointed DeJoy as Postmaster General, who has screwed it over and cause long backlogs of mail so postal votes have been help up. Trump then tried everything to force states to stop accepting postal votes on election day to try to stop legitimate delayed votes being counted.

He also stopped several states who wanted to start counting postal votes early so he could try to make it look like a fix because he was leading when it suddenly changed to blue once postal voted were counted.

NameChangeAgain222 · 04/11/2020 23:24

I feel sorry for the children he put in cages.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 04/11/2020 23:26

Hmm yes twice now his words have been downplayed on here as 'silly'. We know what he is, you know what he is. These are not isolated incidents.

And the 'go back to where you came from' comments to congresswoman Ocasio Cortez.

Not being bad behind the scenes is not really a point of defence when he is putting other people's children in cages...

Maybe not to the outside world. But when he’s lying in bed, alone in the silence and the dark, surely some element of self doubt must creep in?
