To feel sorry for Trump?

I’ve name changed for this as I know I will get completely flamed. But AIBU to secretly feel a little bit sorry for Trump? He campaigned so hard for this election compared to Biden and seemed to put his absolute all into it.

The amount of hate he gets on social media is astounding - I honestly don’t know how one person can handle all that and keep on going. I would have had a nervous breakdown or worse by now if I was on the receiving end of that.

His kids clearly love him and they seem alright - perhaps he’s not so bad behind the scenes? I think losing this election will destroy him as a person and whilst I don’t agree with his political viewpoint, I can’t help but feel slightly sorry for the guy.

AIBU?

This is exactly the same as Turkey, Erdogans been running the county for 20 years and has blatantly heightened their wealth even though he is unlikeable buy the world media but he wins the elections, has devoted supporters, so obviously he is way better than his opposition party. This can be said the same with Putin, they are mocked by the mainstream media, constantly dragged through mud, their speeches taken out of context and also they have social media trolls that work work against them spreading fake news. I just don't get it, please enlighten me.

You don't get why dictators like Erdogan and Putin keep "winning" "elections". Yeesh Hmm

Absolutley not... the guy only campaigned hard because he knows his days are numbered. The best is him accusing Biden of fraud yet I’m pretty sure he paid his way into presidency. Hilary won the public vote by a landslide but lost on electoral votes.. just saying... I’m not saying Biden is great but he’s gotta be a helluva lot better than that asshole.

tartanti · 04/11/2020 22:54

There is something inherently pitiable about that descent from hubris to humiliation.

Thanks @AlexaShutUp - I think this is true.

Are you pissed ? .. we can still go out today .. day drinking doesn't start till tomorrow . ... if you are sober .. you are an attention grabbing troll !!!

RoseTintedAtuin · 04/11/2020 22:56

Awww OP you clearly have an enormous capacity for empathy and seeing the best in people. I truly hope you never lose it as it is so easily lost in this world. I do think YABU, but in the nicest way possible. He has a hide that would put a rhino to shame and he is not a nice person but that makes you an even better person for trying to attach human emotions to him

SabrinaThwaite · 04/11/2020 22:56

There is something inherently pitiable about that descent from hubris to humiliation

Then you don’t understand hubris,

switswooo · 04/11/2020 22:56

His kids clearly love him and they seem alright - perhaps he’s not so bad behind the scenes?

His kids love him because he secured them tax breaks during the pandemic! They made millions.

mrsbyers · 04/11/2020 22:56

Joe Biden has campaigned just as hard and hasn’t resorted to the lows that Trump has - how could anyone want that man as leader ?

You must have been on Gin to think posting that is remotely funny

Itchybush · 04/11/2020 22:57

To all those mentioning the ICE detention centres, did Trump really start those? I thought they were in place before he got elected?

TicTacTwo · 04/11/2020 22:57

Yes Obama ordered them

switswooo · 04/11/2020 22:58

Awww OP you clearly have an enormous capacity for empathy and seeing the best in people.

Not sure feeling sorry for a rich, white, powerful male with a history of sexually assaulting women shows an ‘enormous capacity for empathy’. More likely a lust for his power.

AlexaShutUp · 04/11/2020 22:59

Then you don’t understand hubris

I think I do. I think it's possible to pity someone even if their character is inherently flawed.

fortunacookie · 04/11/2020 23:00

The guys a cock!

No I feel more sorry for Peter Sutcliffe !

Dan1980 · 04/11/2020 23:01

It's quite strange that people are using muslims as an evidence of Trump being "racist" when Islam is a religion not a race - I don't think some people can differentiate between the two. You realise a religion is a mindset and nothing to do with colour or race presumably?

The real hypocrisy kicks in with posters accusing Trump of homophobia when the apparent persecuted group of muslims regularly stone / imprison or kill homosexuals and accuse him of misogyny when muslims have multiple wives often viewing them as possessions not on an equal footing to men and places like Saudi Arabia have only just allowed women the ability to drive cars

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 04/11/2020 23:01

@calamariri

I don't feel sorry for him but I don't trust the media one bit! For 4 years, there has been anti Trump publicity by all international news sources. Okay, he isn't the most likeable person but why? This is exactly the same as Turkey, Erdogans been running the county for 20 years and has blatantly heightened their wealth even though he is unlikeable buy the world media but he wins the elections, has devoted supporters, so obviously he is way better than his opposition party. This can be said the same with Putin, they are mocked by the mainstream media, constantly dragged through mud, their speeches taken out of context and also they have social media trolls that work work against them spreading fake news. It's not an either - or choice. Confused Blame the media all you want, he has his twitter account for all to see!
tartanti · 04/11/2020 23:01

More likely a lust for his power.

This made me laugh - I’m the least lusting after power sort of person you could possibly meet Grin

I hate trump, don’t get me wrong. But a lot of those children weren’t with their parents

These children were part of a cohort of 1030 removed from their parents under Trumps family separation policy - they weren’t unaccompanied minors.

Didkdt · 04/11/2020 23:04

I feel sorry for America. I think that they were stuck between a snake pit and a cess pit.
Biden even with a supportive and sympathetic press can't hide that he is loosing his cognitive abilities. I'll be amazed if he's fit for office by January
Trump is Trump you can't hide that.

MintyMabel · 04/11/2020 23:04

The amount of hate he gets on social media is astounding

Probably about equal to the amount of hate he gives out on social media.

His kids clearly love him and they seem alright

Ivanka loves him because she is his favourite. The others are desperate for his approval.

They are all grifters.

Dan1980 · 04/11/2020 23:04

Trumps racist for calling covid the " Chinese virus " ... ah ok so where did it come from then?

Kljnmw3459 · 04/11/2020 23:08

Why would you feel sorry for him? Unless you think he's clearly out of his depth. He's a wealthy white male in USA, he'll be fine whatever happens. The world is his oyster and he knows it.

TooTrueToBeGood · 04/11/2020 23:08

I wouldn't feel sorry for him if he was being fed very, very slowly into an industrial mincer.
