Perking yes, he is nothing if predictable. He wants to sow seeds of dissent and undermine democracy. He's calling on his base.

I read somewhere that there is still 30million votes to be counted Shock.
nothing is over yet.

@Maireas

The fear of "socialism" which stalks that land.
Castro casts a long shadow. Anything remotely left of centre is seen as Socialist, next stop communism. The thing is the Republican party has moved so far to the right, the only way they can claim the middle ground is to paint the Democrat party as far left

Im confused. The guardian, times, bbc and new york times all have different numbers for how many seats each have won?

MyNameIsArthur · 04/11/2020 08:41

I've asked a Trump supporter in the States about Trump wanting to stop the absentee vote. He said that he is not doing that but legally poll workers are supposed to stay until all votes are counted but they are not doing that

lifesabitchandthenyoudie · 04/11/2020 08:42

Agreed - with pretty much every poster. I'm too stressed to write anything pithy so thank you!

Watching CNN - giving us a bit of hope. Is it too early to hit the Whiskey?

JamieLeeCurtains · 04/11/2020 08:43

Popular vote so far:

Biden 67.25 million
Trump 65.5 million
Source: The Guardian

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 04/11/2020 08:43

@Lonelycrab

So the Graun are saying Biden 238 vs Trump 213.

The beeb are saying 220-213.

What’s all that about?

Fox has declared Arizona and Hawaii but CNN hasn't, that's the difference.

CNN seem to be much better at breaking down the numbers of what's been counted and what's left (in my opinion anyway)

PerkingFaintly · 04/11/2020 08:44

Oh, and just looked at the Beeb figures for Black vote: 11% for Trump. And again you're describing this as unprecedented.

Is that not a bit of an embarrassing record for the Republicans? What on earth have they been doing wrong?

(Assuming Khadernawazkhan is speaking truthfully, of course. I haven't checked.)

PullTheBricksDown · 04/11/2020 08:45

Rick Santorum came across very well, to my surprise, when interviewed on CNN about an hour ago. Said he was deeply distressed by Trump's statement, that 'we all know the president blusters' and that 'both sides think they've won, that's fine for them to say they think it' but that all votes should be counted.

BruceAndNosh · 04/11/2020 08:45

In his speech, Trump actually said they might well get Arizona as there were still votes to be counted. But they should stop the 'voting' (ie counting) in other states that he's already 'won'. And the crowd all cheered this!

BruceAndNosh · 04/11/2020 08:47

Wake me up in December....

PullTheBricksDown · 04/11/2020 08:47

Oh and Santorum said that some counties in PA had paused counting but that's because it was after 2am and tired people make mistakes so that was right to do and counting can continue in the morning. Why this isn't self evident I don't know, but I was relieved to hear at least one Republican on TV saying it.

Hathertonhariden · 04/11/2020 08:49

Have the states that have declared counted all their votes/have uncounted votes that won't make a difference? Could currently declared states change once everything is counted?

CallistoSol · 04/11/2020 08:49

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom

"The Black and Latino vote for Trump has been unprecedented."

See, things like this. Why? Why would they vote for someone who foments racism and clearly actively does them down and encourages White Supremacy? Why would you do that to yourself?

This. I cannot fathom it.

So Trump may declare a state of emergency and declare himself President for the next four years? Or for life?

What does he actually have to do to push too far?

lovelemoncurd · 04/11/2020 08:51

Could Trump be prosecuted for tampering with election results?

lionheart · 04/11/2020 08:51

CNN also going for the more cautious figures.

NPR tracker has higher numbers.

chloechloe · 04/11/2020 08:53

Urgh I can’t concentrate on anything today, not helped by the fact that I got up in the middle of the night to watch the car crash in slow motion.

CNN are doing a good job of explaining what’s left to be counted - hopefully a lot of the outstanding votes are postal ballots likely to be heavily democratic. Please.

They’re also more reserved in calling results.

freddosfrogs · 04/11/2020 08:53

Could Trump be prosecuted for tampering with election results?
With a bit of luck.

@BruceAndNosh

Wake me up in December....
Which year?
CoteFolie · 04/11/2020 08:54

Long time thread watcher and delurking to say WTF but equally not a surprise. The long voting lines that created optimism reminded me of the UK election last year so I was nervous.

It also seems several outlets have called Arizona for Biden. I think Fox was the first about an hour ago and then it withdrew its call. Others have called it since and it was reported on LBC news. I wonder if some are under pressure from Trump not to call it as he thinks he may still win it and it makes the race look closer and adds to his winning argument.

Hugs to all in US right now.

BullBailey · 04/11/2020 08:55

@HMSSophie

Riots? How do you know that? Serious q. This is awful, awful.
It’s been reported in the news. Protestors have clashed in multiple places apparently.. not good at all.

Stay safe all our US friends.

MorrisZapp · 04/11/2020 08:55

There was a black American voter on the radio the other day and they asked her why she was voting for Trump after the way he handled black lives matter etc. She said that Trump cares about all black lives but especially the unborn ones ie he opposes abortion rights.

For many people, this is the deciding factor. She was more concerned about her 'pro life' stance than how Trump treats black citizens.
