This division and everything ending up in the courts was exactly what I feared when I posted on the last thread on the morning of the 3rd. I wish there had been a clear mandate in one direction.
It looks like Biden might just take it but I'm fairly sure it's going to be 4 years of the other side yelling illegitimacy and #notmypresident because the country seems utterly divided. If Harris should end up taking over (because lets face it Biden is old) it will be even worse.
I stayed up late watching results come in initially and I can't help but think the way the process is run and the accompanying media holds some responsibility. I think having maps that flip between red and blue as the night goes on makes things worse, especially this year with so much postal voting. It makes it feel more tribal - like watching a sports team and I think that has a real psychological effect. Calling AZ so early didn't help and shouldn't have happened even if it does finally go to Biden.
I wonder if it would be better for votes to be counted then only announced once done. I can understand why voters, having watched a state stay blue/red on a map for many hours only to have it flip to the other at a late stage, feel like they've been cheated when in reality it's just because a larger populated/more partisan district was counted in at that point.
Seems utterly typical of this year that whatever the outcome it's not much of a win for either side. Biden as president will be severely hampered unless the Dems can make bigger inroads in the midterms.
