But there will be an Arizona update in half an hour. I think I'll stay up for that and then call it a day, I'm in New York and it's going to be after 2am.

AbsentmindedWoman · 05/11/2020 06:43

Ok so Dems have a possible pathway in Georgia! Apparently - the 17k votes left to count is literally just the uncounted ones, but is just part of the overall last tranche of votes. So haven't officially been divvied up yet on the leaderboard numbers.

Hope that makes sense it does it my head but am tired and a bit jittery from caffeine. Frazzled.

AbsentmindedWoman · 05/11/2020 06:46

Georgia now expected to give us another update tonight rather than tomorrow morning...

TheNorthWestPawsage · 05/11/2020 06:52

Today is going to be a good day.

Roussette · 05/11/2020 06:54

Woke early and this was my go-to thread to see what's going on! Some interesting posts overnight.

Sky has just said 'Biden's lead is narrowing' and that is not what I want to hear.
Still... at lease I've had some sleep, not enough, but some

Well looks like we will get into recounts in GA and other close states. I'm still optimistic although the timeline for finalising keeps extending!

MerchantOfVenom · 05/11/2020 07:08

Here is everyone, I didn’t realise there was a new thread - and this one is already on p. 18 🤣

I am feeling cautiously optimistic.

I was listening to a podcast this morning (Daily Beast) on my dog walk, and it was called ‘we won and I feel like shit’. If someone had said Biden would win the popular vote, the electoral college (🤞🤞🤞😬), and record the greatest number of votes in presidential history - but it would feel like an anticlimax, we’d never have believed them.

They also said the forthcoming days were going to be like wrestling a pig in mud. The pig loves getting down and dirty in mud and, in fact, is an expert in it. You, not so much.

Roussette · 05/11/2020 07:08

Just read this on Twitter... surely there needs to be electoral reform...

There are 40 million Americans in California. California has 2 United States Senators. There are 550,000 Americans in Wyoming. Wyoming has 2 United States Senators. Something isn’t adding up. Our government institutions require significant reform.

Morning my lovelies!!! 8 hours sleep and I'm back in the game! Looks like things are much the same other than horrible hints of things 'narrowing' 😬

Morning routine, school run and then I'm here for all of it! I'm WFH but we'll see how much work is done!

As i understand it, every state has two senators. Population of the state and representation comes in to play in the House, where numbers of delegates vary by states. And the electoral college of course attempts to redress differences in population.

Although I do agree that decades of gerrymandering have screwed things so thoroughly that it may be worth scrapping the lot and starting again.

Woohooo 8 hours is goooood!

No idea what today is going to bring, more of the same? It has got a bit ugly over there.

APress is calling it 264/214 but I am trying to ignore that and only look at un-projected figures.

You can't get a piece of paper between them in Georgia. If Biden wins it, and Trump wins every other state, it will be 269 each. God knows what will happen then... Shock

CNN it's saying Biden has 253 and Trump has 213

🤞🤞🤞for today.

And it's the first election that my 15 yo boy is taking an interest in. Bless him.

DOJ tells prosecutors armed federal agents are allowed in ballot counting centers: report
thehill.com/homenews/administration/524578-doj-tells-prosecutors-armed-federal-agents-are-allowed-in-ballot

Three people who described the message told the Times that the 1:30 a.m. email from Richard Donoghue said the law that bans armed federal authorities from being at the polls on Election Day does not apply to polling stations and locations that are counting ballots after that day.

In the email, the principal associate deputy attorney general said the law "does not prevent armed federal law enforcement persons from responding to, investigate, or prevent federal crimes at closed polling places or at other locations where votes are being counted."

Former officials told the newspaper that the email seemed like an apparent way to intimidate local election officials or intrude on ballot counting and another way Attorney General William Barr was following Trump's public comments.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/11/2020 07:39

I had a zoom call yesterday and my client asked how the election was going. Turned out they could hear the TV on in the other room. Oops. Blush

AbsentmindedWoman · 05/11/2020 07:40

I think the Trump campaign has lost interest in an Arizona lawsuit and are focusing their attentions on potential lawsuits in Pennsylvania and Georgia.

They're making sounds about wanting the Supreme Court to override state law rather than adhering to PA state law Hmm

Georgia has 16 electoral votes, so that would put Biden over the line (CNN has Biden on 254).
SabrinaThwaite · 05/11/2020 07:41

Oops, you’re right - Biden on 253!

AbsentmindedWoman · 05/11/2020 07:42

Biden still in the lead in Arizona with the last update of the night. It's tightening but fuck it I'm staying optimistic.

Thrownaway · 05/11/2020 07:45

Depends where you look
Cnn has 253/214
Bbc 243/214
Guardian 264/214

Apparently its to do with which reporting agency they use. The bbc are being extrea stringent due to some embarrassing calls in the clinton campaign

Roussette · 05/11/2020 07:45

I've only repeated what Sky news has just said. They are 253/214 confirmed. Which would take Biden to 269. Then all the others would take Trump to the same?
I hasten to add... I don't know, but thought Sky only showed confirmed figures.

Smile

Good morning. My internet connection vanished last night and only returned this morning. Otherwise I would be even more sleep deprived but none the wiser this morning.

I have seen that 264 number but can't acknowledge it yet. Smile

chomalungma · 05/11/2020 07:50

Fox News had Biden 264 and Trump on 214

Always good to see what Trump supporting networks think

PullTheBricksDown · 05/11/2020 07:52

Arizona is narrowing and CNN have said Trump is getting the votes in the latest batches, which are from more Republican counties, to pull level and potentially overtake. Biden's team have said they expect the very last batch to be Democrat. Eek!
