@maggiethecat

funny, went to bed at 12.30 nice and calm but now my heart's racing. even if I went back to bed I don't think I'd manage sleep

Lawsuit to stop counting in Michigan. This is going to get uglier yet. In this litigious, vicious, mendacious world Trump has constructed and half the electorate apparently chooses to live in.

maggiethecat · 05/11/2020 05:12

Trump protestors in Arizona outside the counting building chanting. Think they feel they have a chance there

CandlesBlanketsandTea · 05/11/2020 05:19

Went to bed and woke up at 04:30 and thought this nightmare had ended, it hasn't and lockdown has started it just feels a bit overwhelming. Does anyone else feel like that? Trump's behaviour gets worse with every passing second and completely disgusts me. I don't understand how the constitution loving republicans can defend this man?

BTW I don't understand how the BBC shows Biden at 243, CNN show him at 253 and the Guardian shows him at 264. Do we know why this is? I obviously prefer the Guardian's figure.

Also did Nevada just stop counting and go to bed? Seems a bit odd for a place known for casino's couldn't they find anyone to do an all nighter? The memes on twitter are funny.

maggiethecat · 05/11/2020 05:22

Think Guardian has probably given Arizona's 11 votes to Biden (compared to CNN) but if that's the case it's premature as the race is tightening there

maggiethecat · 05/11/2020 05:25

Nevada will start counting again tomorrow; they've stopped for some time now.

Next tranche of results expected soon. If I could see positive results for Biden I'd go back to bed for a couple of hours

freddosfrogs · 05/11/2020 05:26

This person on Twitter clearly doesn't know the shitstorm that is our government :

That’s it. That seals the deal. I’ve been an american citizen for 54 years and in all my time of being one i’ve never seen an election this bad. I’ve had enough of it, until you fix this country.I’ll be packing my bags to England where they actually know how to run a country.

Parkandride · 05/11/2020 05:31

Pregnancy insomnia here, thank you for such an interesting thread.

1 question, is it that the full seats per state go to the winning candidate? Or is it like here where there are 73 seats in London but you could end up with a mix of MPs from different parties?
It sounds like the former but any insight appreciated.

CandlesBlanketsandTea · 05/11/2020 05:32

@maggiethecat thank you. I suppose I feel ready for this to be over and want the Guardian to be right.

Georgis have stopped counting for the night

Kaitlin Collins @kaitlincollins
The next update from Georgia's secretary of state will happen tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. As of a little over an hour ago, there were about 90,735 outstanding ballots in the state.

Trump lead is currently just 31.7k.
Biden needs to win the remaining ballots by 70-30%.

The two main areas to count are solid blue. The last couple of batches of votes have gone 4 Biden for every 1 Trump.

Squeaky bum time.

Things looking ugly in Arizona with an armed mob outside the count. They are trying to form a plan for the counters to leave the building safely for the night.

chloechloe · 05/11/2020 05:44

Just woken up, here we go again. Looks like CNN was right to be conservative about calling some of these states. Arizona is now looking too close for my liking.

I’m really hoping Biden keeps his lead in Nevada. When are we expecting the result there, I think they sent their counters home didn’t they?

Looks like Pennsylvania is lost.

Fox News is banging Trump’s corruption drum and claiming the election was rigged and we should never believe in democracy again! I really feel for the millions of decent people in USA having this man represent them. Not a single thing he has said since the polls closed has been truthful.

maggiethecat · 05/11/2020 05:45

Parkandride - all the electoral votes for a state goes to the winner (even if they win by only 1 vote - although that would be open to challenge/recount)

maggiethecat · 05/11/2020 05:47

Redtoothbrush - is that 10.30 am Georgia time (what time is that in the UK?)

Squeaky bum time indeed!

Maybe they're making an ironic point.
maggiethecat · 05/11/2020 05:50

chloechloe - why do you say you think Pennsylvania is lost? Trump's lead has gone from 600k+ to 150k+

3.30pm

I think!!

The UK are five hours ahead, unless in remembering wrong.

maggiethecat · 05/11/2020 06:14

Ok. So won't know Georgia for some time.

AbsentmindedWoman · 05/11/2020 06:21

Georgia are now counting through the night.

Trump is leading by a few thousand more votes than still remain uncounted, so I guess Georgia is gone, unless I'm missing something?

Bagadverts · 05/11/2020 06:21

@maggiethecat
The electoral college votes are allocated on winner takes all in the whole State, except in Maine and Nebraska. In those states they allocate based on each Congressional district

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/10/26/trump-vs-biden-election-maine-and-nebraska-could-make-a-difference.html

This is useful as a quick reference for current time difference. I like it because it reminds me it might be a different day:

AbsentmindedWoman · 05/11/2020 06:23

I mean I think in Georgia Trump is ahead by about 23k and I think about 17k left to be counted, so Biden can't win it can he?

looks round for straws to clutch

AbsentmindedWoman · 05/11/2020 06:25

Fuck sake. Today I was so hoping Biden would take Georgia.

BirdsRoundandRound · 05/11/2020 06:34

Sorry I might have missed this, but why are some news sources saying Arizona has been won by Biden, but others not? Is there still a chance Trump could take it, if so why has it been called?

AbsentmindedWoman · 05/11/2020 06:38

@HoneysuckIejasmine I'm watching CNN and breaking news is that Georgia are counting through the night. Waiting for analysis on the numbers as they stand which were updated with the figures I gave above. I expect the next update will be at the 10.30am announcement.

Arizona have stopped counting for the night.
