To have very specific pyjama criteria?

I’ve been searching high and low for new pyjamas and almost every type that I see has something I hate.

These are my criteria:

  • NO elasticated cuffs/ankles
  • NO fiddly details like lace or ribbon
  • NO button-up tops
  • NO “winter” pyjamas with a t-shirt top
  • NO rigid fabrics (I like a decent amount of stretch)
  • NO garish colours or prints

I literally just want normal neutral PJs with a plain long sleeved top and normal straight/wide leg bottoms with either an elasticated waistband or a drawstring so that they stay up and don’t end up sagging down around my arse. Preferably made from a nice soft and flexible jersey fabric.

Does such a thing exist?

Yep it's called:

NO pyjamas

nonevernotever · 03/11/2020 18:37

I'm with you OP. Even better, to buy them as separates so I don't end up with a drawer of unused tops and worn out bottoms (because now I'm older and saggier I need my pj tops to be rather more heavily engineered.)

AlexisIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/11/2020 18:38

So not a T-shirt or a buttoned shirt ... I'm only coming up with a cami/vest top and wide leg pants.
I've seen loads of them though, they're ten a penny!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 03/11/2020 18:39

I buy pjs from Primark and they hit all your criteria. Cheap and last too.

yummytummy · 03/11/2020 18:39

i want exactly what you do and it seems impossible to find. hate hate hate bloody cuffed legs can never find anything without the damned things they give me such rage

MustardMitt · 03/11/2020 18:39

You want Uniqlo. I am literally wearing my set of lounge pyjamas now, exactly as you describe.

Mine are a couple of years old but similar to this pair.

SinkGirl · 03/11/2020 18:43

Yes, I like Uniqlo ones a lot. Also saw some similar to what you describe at M&S, although the bottoms may have had ankle cuffs, I can’t remember.

LajesticVantrashell · 03/11/2020 18:56

Long sleeve tops from Primark are perfect. You can then get wide legged bottoms from a few places - Sainsbury's, Primark, H&M

GingerBreadNurse · 03/11/2020 19:00

My main criteria for pyjamas is pockets in the bottoms! I’ve discounted many a set because there’s no pockets.

Sunshineboo · 03/11/2020 19:01

i have most of the same criteria and buy mine from m&s, asos, simply be and sainsbury's. have to look hard though

justasmalltownmum · 03/11/2020 19:02

You basically described men's pjs.

majesticallyawkward · 03/11/2020 19:03

I find lounge wear much better and more comfortable (for full disclosure I don't sleep in the bottoms much but they're fine the odd time I do).

Primark, m&s, boohoo and Asda are all fairly cheap too.

Afwan · 03/11/2020 19:03

These Muji pyjamas are amazing. No labels, side seams and yes, they are button front, but my big chest (E cup) is comfy in a L, plenty of room. I recommend. Different colours too.

Sorryusernamealreadyexists · 03/11/2020 19:05

See I have to have cuffed bottoms and the waistband can’t be too tight. Love spotty, hate character. Always wear a hoody on top so tend to wear separate bottoms x

StrawBeretMoose · 03/11/2020 19:06

Some good suggestions here.
If you want very plain pyjamas have you tried the men's section? My pet peeve is pyjama legs that are too short, the men's pyjamas tend to be longer.

WhatAreWordsWorth · 03/11/2020 19:08

Ta very much for all of the suggestions. Uniqlo is one of my go-tos for everyday clothes so I might have a browse.

Those M&S ones would be great apart from the weird elasticated sleeves, I don’t want elasticated sleeves!

I like some of the pairs suggested with checked bottoms, but I tend to find the checked bottoms quite rigid and restrictive when I’m lounging around.

I have some from George which are soft touch fabric and meet all your criteria - I love them

WhatAreWordsWorth · 03/11/2020 19:09

And thanks to PP who’ve suggested the men’s section - I’ve never really thought about that before but it might be a good shout.

Oh Tesco is what you are after I bought 2 pairs black top tartan but not to garish bottoms. So comfortable I love them.

PheasantFeathers · 03/11/2020 19:09

Pajama Pantry! Natural cotton, pockets, nice patterns and they hem them to your leg length so you don't trip over the ends or have them swinging above your ankles. I have two pairs!
