To have very specific pyjama criteria?

I’ve been searching high and low for new pyjamas and almost every type that I see has something I hate.

These are my criteria:

  • NO elasticated cuffs/ankles
  • NO fiddly details like lace or ribbon
  • NO button-up tops
  • NO “winter” pyjamas with a t-shirt top
  • NO rigid fabrics (I like a decent amount of stretch)
  • NO garish colours or prints

I literally just want normal neutral PJs with a plain long sleeved top and normal straight/wide leg bottoms with either an elasticated waistband or a drawstring so that they stay up and don’t end up sagging down around my arse. Preferably made from a nice soft and flexible jersey fabric.

Does such a thing exist?

The White Shop - lovely soft fabric & plain muted colours

Nottherealslimshady · 03/11/2020 20:21

I do too.

  • Always elasticated cuffs/ankles
  • NO fiddly details like lace or ribbon
  • NO button-up tops
  • NO long sleeved tops
  • NO scratch fabrics like that awful plastic glitter thread

I usually sleep naked though because even the tiniest hair getting in the fabric will scratch me to death and I have to bin them.

Boohoo and m&s. George have some good ones too

Frankola · 03/11/2020 20:25

Someone once bought me some silky shorts and cami top pjs. So awful! The material had no give and you got twisted up in it in the night. Not to mention the silkyness made me almost slide out of bed a few times! Confused

buttersidedown · 03/11/2020 20:26

Not jersey material, but I like these from M&S and have a few pairs, some patterned, some pretty plain.

I recently discovered I am age 13-14 in boys pyjamas. Cheaper and with functional pockets.

IceniWarrior · 03/11/2020 20:35

When did elasticated ankles become popular? I really dislike them. I only wear red checked, loose brushed cotton bottoms and a black vest. I ditch the bottoms when I go to bed and sleep in massive black pants! Struggling to find any.

WhatAreWordsWorth · 03/11/2020 20:53

Ironically, like some PP I also sleep naked! But I love lazing around in PJs in the evenings (and most of the weekend).

Thanks for all the great ideas, I’m going to have a look around the local supermarkets - if pyjamas are classed as “essential” Grin - and I liked the look of some of the Oysho loungewear too.

I second the M&S PJs above! I’m exactly the same as you op and their £12.50 ones tick all your boxes. Not sure if they still do, but they used to even do a three quarter length sleeve top in some pairs which imo is the perfect length 👌

Just make up a set to your specification from other stuff that isn’t marketed as pyjamas?

Mumtumwobble · 03/11/2020 21:16

M&S have have got loads that would be suitable. I love cuffs on the legs because they stop the legs ending up round your knees, but I can’t find any in an actual size. I’m a 14 so 12-14 always feel a bit too tight, but 16-18 are too big. I just want them in a proper size not a mixed size or S,M,L etc.

I thought your list was perfect until I saw no t.shirt type tops. I lovei8 them.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 03/11/2020 21:33

@WhatAreWordsWorth hope you’re not In Wales.

Horrifyingly, pj’s are not classed as essential so we can’t buy any until Monday here!

Cyberjammies?

CharityRoyall · 03/11/2020 21:38

I’m the opposite to you OP! I really like elasticated cuffs, I can’t stand wide leg pyjama trousers as I feel like they’re always flapping around and letting cold air up my legs 😂 elasticated is more cosy! I like plain T-shirts or long sleeves, I don’t want buttons either!
