To have very specific pyjama criteria?

I’ve been searching high and low for new pyjamas and almost every type that I see has something I hate.

These are my criteria:

  • NO elasticated cuffs/ankles
  • NO fiddly details like lace or ribbon
  • NO button-up tops
  • NO “winter” pyjamas with a t-shirt top
  • NO rigid fabrics (I like a decent amount of stretch)
  • NO garish colours or prints

I literally just want normal neutral PJs with a plain long sleeved top and normal straight/wide leg bottoms with either an elasticated waistband or a drawstring so that they stay up and don’t end up sagging down around my arse. Preferably made from a nice soft and flexible jersey fabric.

Does such a thing exist?

I don't know what to tell you, except that my fave pair is exactly what you describee, and is a cast-off pair from when my FIL flew first class on Qatar Airways. Pockets, warm, cool, comfy, wash well, soft top and elastic waist. They are perfect, and I will NOT be able to replace them!GrinGrinGrin

😂😂😂 Exactly the same - except mine are from Quantas when my parents did their “trip of a life time”!

@WhatAreWordsWorth

Ironically, like some PP I also sleep naked! But I love lazing around in PJs in the evenings (and most of the weekend).

Thanks for all the great ideas, I’m going to have a look around the local supermarkets - if pyjamas are classed as “essential” Grin - and I liked the look of some of the Oysho loungewear too.

That's why you didn't include the most important criterion for pajamas:

No seam to go up your bits every time you move in the night.

PattyPan · 03/11/2020 22:07

Yanbu OP I hate the cuffed bottoms too, I don’t understand why it’s so hard to find normal ones! I wriggle a lot in my sleep and end up blowing the elastic in the cuffs by somehow working the cuffs up to my knees Blush also agree with a pp about the legs being too short for this reason. I was actually looking for extra long pjs the other day but they were all cuffed Angry

John Lewis have some, they also have some with cuffed ankles which I have but they are very loose not elasticated at all. X

MotherAbigail · 03/11/2020 22:45

I have similar criteria to you. I buy long sleeve T-shirts from Primark (clothes ones not pj tops). The best bottoms I have had are from Old Navy and you can only buy them in America as far as I know. I bought some when I was there three years ago and beg anyone travelling over there to bring them back for me. Sorry, doesn’t help now, but might one day.

Second best bottoms are Primark, the separates, not the ones that come in sets.

I find pj tops are always too short and go shapeless in the wash, wherever they are from.

LannieDuck · 03/11/2020 23:02

I agree both with your criteria and your frustration at not being able to find them!

I currently go with a Fatface long sleeved PJ top, and Tescos PJ trousers for winter, and normal tshirt / leggings for summer. I've also found good options at M&S in the past.

SinkGirl · 03/11/2020 23:04

I can’t handle uncuffed pj bottoms, flapping around my legs. I love cuffed ones!

(Just in case anyone’s doing pj market research and decides to stop making cuffed ones on the basis of this thread 😬)

@GingerBreadNurse

My main criteria for pyjamas is pockets in the bottoms! I’ve discounted many a set because there’s no pockets.
I bought some from Lidl - THE BOTTOMS HAD POCKETS.

The excitement lingers on.

Try Lands End

firesong · 04/11/2020 19:00

I like Next and Primark for pyjamas. I'm the same about wearing them at home, but definitely not to bed. I hate clothing in bed other than small, light items if it's cold or I anticipate being up with ill children etc

ladybee28 · 04/11/2020 19:10

All these people who want pockets in their pyjamas.... what do you put in your pockets in bed?

I'm very worried I've been doing sleep wrong.

Branleuse · 04/11/2020 19:12

Next do the best pyjamas imo

emmathedilemma · 04/11/2020 19:19

Sainsbury's usually do basic PJs which are really comfortable and wash well.

Crocky · 04/11/2020 19:30

Tesco’s is what a couple of you need. I have bottoms with pockets in, although they have a cuff at the ankle and my daughter has checked women’s ones that are slightly stretchy and she says are the most comfortable thing she has ever worn.

Crocky · 04/11/2020 19:31

Ladybee I don’t wear mine in bed. I wear mine in the morning and evenings. I need pockets for tissues, my phone and other random bits.

Aaaaah - ok, this makes sense – I see 'pyjamas' and think 'bed'. Slooping-around-the-house clothes are a different category in my mind and pockets make far more sense in that context.

Thinking of pockets in bed make me feel seeing like pockets on babygros – what are they THERE for? Does 7-week old Ringo already need somewhere to stash his wallet and keys?

Crocky · 05/11/2020 12:42

😂😂😂😂

I bought a pair from Asda -tartan, no cuffs and have pockets. I team them with a white vest or one of DH's old t-shirts
BashfulClam · 05/11/2020 13:21

I goy pyjamas from the £ shop range yesterday. Wide leg brushed cotton bottoms with a stretchy top with long sleeves. The top has two buttons at the top, more for decoration than anything else.

Gjk917463 · 17/11/2020 17:52

These from fig leaves are amazing, I have these and a summer version they do that has a T-shirt style and trousers with pockets and I mix and match the 2 sets. They are so soft and perfect, just what you are looking for.

MadamShazam · 17/11/2020 18:00

I just bought a plain black jumpsuit from Boohoo to sleep in. Its really hard to find decent pyjamas that are plain, but also come in my size!

combatbarbie · 17/11/2020 18:05

I'd say asda.....in particular their separates.....
