To think that Trump is not going to get re-elected?

There are still a few fringe types who think he’s going to get a landslide victory.

Personally I find this unlikely.

Any MNers from across the pond have a view more informed than myself?

@Parker231

Read some articles this morning about Trump threatening to declare himself the victor early on before all the votes have been counted. Apparently the TV channels have discussed this and would have to cover any announcement as it is ‘news’ but they would put on screen a disclaimer that the results are not final at this stage.
He is such a cunt. Honestly I loathe that word but he really is.

I'm confused! I thought that the pols closed yesterday? When do they close?

Today is election day. The polls close tonight.

I live in a very Liberal Democrat city and they’re starting to board up the shops in our downtown area anticipating violence....

Election Day is 3 November in the US.

It’s midday on 3 Nov on the East Coast (New York, etc), and only 9am on the West Coast (LA).

MerchantOfVenom · 03/11/2020 17:05

Sorry - I mean it’s only midday on the west coast and 9am on the east coast right now.

Election day’s really only getting started - it will be a while until the polls close.

IJumpedAboardAPirateShip · 03/11/2020 17:33

No you were right the first time @MerchantOfVenom

Parker231 · 03/11/2020 17:43

From The Telegraph following a phone interview Trump did with Fox News

The president sought to downplay predictions of rioting, saying it "will only happen in Democrat cities" - despite the building of an 8,000ft barricade around the White House this morning.

Ha, yes I was! What I meant to clarify was that that was the time of posting, rather than when the polls close.

Voting is open for hours yet.

IJumpedAboardAPirateShip · 03/11/2020 18:03

Yup - am about to head to some lines to dish out water and snacks

@HoldMyLobster

BTW this morning DH spoke to one of his Florida-based colleagues - he's voted Republican in the last 8 presidential elections.

He's sitting this one out.

Many of people will say this but vote for Trump. They won't admit it publicly due to fear of abuse and bullying from left wingers. It's just like Brexit all over again.
MerchantOfVenom · 03/11/2020 19:09

Of course, ‘fear and bullying’ is much better when it comes from those in power.

I keep forgetting what snowflakes Trump voters are - thanks for the reminder.

I think it's the case that lots of people will deny voting for Trump but do so anyway
Doingtheboxerbeat · 03/11/2020 20:02

I know it's really obvious but if you are too embarrassed to admit you are a Trump supporter, then you must be aware there is something inherently wrong with being a Trump supporter 🤔 .

This is absolute rubbish, the left constantly bully people who's opinion is different to theirs. Trump and Brexit being the two most recent examples. Every Trump supporter is fully confident they are making the right decision or at least voting for the least worst option. The media are also complicit in this with their remain / democrat bias.

Jonathan Pie hits it again, like the Babylon Bee satirical media has been on point: "Beating Trump is not a political ideology..... What do you stand for?.....People who think Trump is an idiot but found it easier to put food on the table under him than Obama"

I used to live in the states, so have loads of friends there. I am keeping a tally of people voting and expressing it on fb, currently Trump is winning 80:20. Admittedly my friends are mostly wealthy so probably not a good cross section of society.

The most vocal are all Trump supporters too, my fb has been chock full of republicans banging on for months, not sure how anyone can say Trump supporters are keeping quiet.

So are you saying that there is no bullying from the left at all? and the media aren't biased towards remain / democrats?
IJumpedAboardAPirateShip · 03/11/2020 20:34

I think it was the case in 2016, not anymore though, they have no problem with being very loud. We’re all sat here worried about what happens if Biden wins frankly

I think they are much quieter than last time. The loud ones of social media are a very small proportion of his supporters. The polls will vastly underestimate how well he does.
