To think that Trump is not going to get re-elected?

Anon778833 · 23/10/2020 20:27

There are still a few fringe types who think he’s going to get a landslide victory.

Personally I find this unlikely.

Any MNers from across the pond have a view more informed than myself?

KihoBebiluPute - are you American? That's a pretty obnoxious comment either way

PhilSwagielka · 26/10/2020 23:06

Marxists voting for Trump is ironic considering how much his supporters hate them and call everything they don’t like Marxist.

There was no way they were going to vote for Clinton.

@MerchantOfVenom

He's done great things for the economy that we dont hear about in the UK, so is appeal is wider than we'd think.

Could you articulate some of these ‘great things’, so people could have a better understanding?

I live in the States and I'm a part of the demographic he is trying to get to vote for him....Someone please explain what he has done for the economy? Besides ride Obama's coat tails
CoronaIsWatching · 26/10/2020 23:18

The thought of Trump getting re-elected fills me with dread but I think it's going to happen. He has masses of deluded voters and frankly not very bright religious types. Any woman that votes for Trump is a traitor to her sex.

Leaannb · 26/10/2020 23:18

@Tfoot75

I'm following it with a lot of interest. Not sure what I'll think if Trump wins tbh. I can't imagine how such an ignorant, lying idiot can be voted in as president of a civilised, democratic country. The only conclusion is that by voting him in the country must not be either civilised or democratic. Utterly bamboozling. The rest of the world is watching with their heads in their hands.

I mean I wouldn't vote for BJ, but if he came out with 1% of the shit that Trump does, he'd be out on a vote of no confidence within days.

@Tfoot75...Thats not possible in the States
Doingtheboxerbeat · 26/10/2020 23:34

Trump also has a lot of support from South and Central America due to them being absolutely terrified of the US going the way of Venezuela. Racist ranting president is the least of their concerns.

You'll be surprised. Sometimes prejudice can get in the way

The news were reporting a 90% chance that Hilary Clinton would win in 2016, I wouldn't be so sure he won't be re-elected (as much as I hate the idea)

There is a difference in the polling this time, though. Last time undecided voters were a much higher number, and polls weren’t looking at educational attainment as a potential for voting preference because historically those numbers don’t make a big difference. Worth noting the polls were pretty close on Clinton winning the the popular vote. Polling was also scant, and finished early in some of the swing states, so that gave a false number too. Polling in 2018 was more accurate.

None of this is to say I think Biden will win, just that the cry of the polls being out in 2016 misses quite a bit of nuance.

Nonsense. Problem with Clinton was she relied so heavily on the fact she was a woman but I don't recall any of her policies only that she hated Trump, liked Beyonce and deleted emails.

Then you weren’t paying attention to her campaign.

I don't like Biden he is as left wing as Corbyn was.

😂 Biden would struggle to be considered centrist here, let alone left wing!

As a foreigner, let me tell you, we don't get why you elected BJ grin

We don’t elect prime ministers here. We vote for local representatives.

He hasn’t. If you don’t hear about them, that’s on you. The information on what he has and hasn’t done is easily available to anyone who wants to look for it. The economy continued on an upward trajectory which started after the recovery from the recession. But, the reality is, unless they seriously fuck up, the impact a president has on an economy is actually vanishingly small.

PhilSwagielka · 26/10/2020 23:54

Biden is not as left wing as Corbyn, wtf. That’s Bernie Sanders.

colouringindoors · 27/10/2020 00:02

After the Brexit vote and the last UK GE I am not optimistic. Praying I'm wrong...

windturbines · 27/10/2020 00:06

Yeah, after Brexit and his first election, I would be more surprised if he didn't get reelected. I just can't see it happening. But, we can hope.

Sara2000 · 27/10/2020 00:07

I think he'll win as Bifen isn't a decent opponent. Its bizarre that such a large country can only find a couple of old men to stand as president.

Sara2000 · 27/10/2020 00:08

I meant Biden. Confused

Trump is gaining ground in several swing states. Biden is loosing the Latinx vote. Im very worried that Biden will win the popular vote but not the Electoral Vote
Paddingtonjuice · 27/10/2020 01:18

My head says he will lose looking at the polls. But then I think, if I were voting for Trump in America, I would not tell a soul. This election is frustrating. Joe for me is a establishment democrat at least 10 years past his prime. If I were American, I would not be excited about voting for him at all. They could have had Andrew Yang or Bernie. Instead they have a man who needs reminding who his opponent is. Who know what will happen!

There is a poster on here sometimes from Mexico, who said Trump is surprisingly popular there, I believe she said because some of his policies have had fairly good effects for them, though that's not their intent.

I also saw recently some polling suggestions that said his support by black males was going up. And he has always had a good amount of support from Hispanic Americans.

I think a lot of people don't really expect a president to be a particularly worthy person, or someone they like, and they don't necessarily care about what motivates him either. They care about which policies seem most practically beneficial from their perspective.

My mother is happily voting for Trump because she’s pro-life and hates Socialism. Obviously, Biden would not serve her purposes.

Tax cuts also significantly helped nearly all paychecks of those I know and the white-collar group are loving their 401Ks.

The blue collar elements have seen wage increases (pre-COVID) and with their States (purple, I guess, it’s a swing state) reopening, they have been able to get back to work.

The oldies in my extended network are enjoying their stock portfolios. As am I.

Of course, it’s hard to pinpoint who is responsible for the good economy, but no one speaks of ‘jobless’ recoveries anymore.

I don’t vote from overseas, but I’ve been rather happy that Trump’s not started any new wars and has been active in pulling troops home (but I do worry his bluster may get us inadvertently in trouble).

I haven’t been too keen on his handling of BLM/Antifa protestors (I think he should have been tougher). Nor has he done all that much to improve healthcare.

BelleHathor · 27/10/2020 07:11

Trump will win with an even higher Electoral college number. The candidate who has the higher voter enthusiasm usually wins and his base absolutely love him. Plus his campaign have had an excellent ground game making physical contact with over a million people a week since July. The Biden campaign was relying on mostly phone calls/emails.
The swing states are missing students who stayed in their home states due to remote learning.
Covid will be the wildcard and I think people will blame local government for keeping them on locked down.
Don't underestimate the number of Democrats who have #walkedaway due to Antifa/BLM/Cancel culture.
The Black and Latino vote for Trump will be the highest a Republican has got for years.

To think that Trump is not going to get re-elected?

Your entire post sounds like something written for a Russian bot.

The stock market has tanked. 401ks will have lost a whole lot of value this year.

Swallowed the Kool aid there.

Actually it's done quite well over the Trump presidency and has recovered from its losses in March.

Absolute LOL at the idea that Biden is a ‘socialist’.

What is up with the (socialist) US education system - it seems to fail so many...

PhilSwagielka · 27/10/2020 08:26

Trump was quite happy to encourage the Proud Boys. But then they’re the good kind of violent thugs, I guess.
