I'd push it into the soil in a houseplant pot. Surely the detective isn't allowed to destroy my property during their search? You can't uproot a plant without potentially harming it.

I would disguise it as something else, but still wondering what that would be. He might have a metal detector.

Depends if he's just looking for a paperclip in which case hiding it in a box full might not work... I would hide it in our fish tank.
