Where would you hide the paper clip?

You have five minutes to hide a paper clip in your home. A detective then has 24 hours to look for it. If he finds it, he gets £10,000. If he fails to find it, you get £10,000.

Where are you going to hide the paperclip?

In the seat tube of one of the bikes - if you shake the bike it will rattle masking the rattle of the paperclip

bottle of shampoo / conditioner - the viscosity of the liquid will prevent rattling and they are generally opaque bottles.

If the garden was allowed I’d put it in our beehive. Good luck with searching that!

I would blu tack inside some of the tent poles or camping equipment in the loft so it wouldn’t rattle.

AuntPeggy · 05/10/2020 21:35

In a blob of blu tack holding a poster up!

PossiblyPattio · 05/10/2020 21:40

I'd give it to me DH to chuck on the floor. Nobody will ever find it. Grin

FenellaMaxwell · 05/10/2020 21:40

I would probably try and drop it into the detective’s bag/pocket as they arrived. It’s likely to be the last place they’d look.

If I was hiding it from my DH I would put it clearly visible at the very front of the middle shelf of the fridge with a big sign saying PAPERCLIP. Judging by the daily pantomime of “have you seen the milk?” “Do we have any cheese?” he’d never find it. Hmm

Inside the bristles of the toilet brush which I would then get my OH and two sons to use to clean the toilet after they’d used it, safe in the knowledge that it wouldn’t cross their minds to actually clean the brush after they’d used it.

@ParisianLady

In a large box of paperclips. He'll never know which one is the one he's looking for
I was going to say the same thing. Alternatively, in the bottle of Milton
FrankiesKnuckle · 05/10/2020 21:49

Tape it to the inside of a toilet roll.
IME men are strangely repelled by these inanimate objects.

AGnu · 05/10/2020 21:51

I'd take apart a clicky ballpoint pen, straighten the paper clip & put it inside. Pen goes back in the pen pot.

I'm a little concerned that OP has a small object she shouldn't & we're all giving her ideas about where to hide it when the police come for her...

Smallsteps88 · 05/10/2020 21:54

Taped to the inside of the letter box.

Powerlessstepmum · 05/10/2020 21:54

I'd blu-tack it to the underside of one of the piano pedals (assuming I could find a blob in time, which is a big ask in our house).

TakeMeToYourLiar · 05/10/2020 21:54

Unscrew one of the battens holding up the shelves. Slip paper clip behind and re tighten.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 05/10/2020 22:00

I'd insert it in a potato which is stored in a bag in the garage!

fairydustandpixies · 05/10/2020 22:01

I'd put it in an envelope and post it to myself - post box is just a couple of doors down. I'm sure Royal Mail would soon lose it for me!

ToastyCrumpet · 05/10/2020 22:03

Inside the bog roll.

RonaRossi · 05/10/2020 22:09

Unravel it so you have a long piece of metal. Slide it into a banana in the fruit bowl.

Coffeecak3 · 05/10/2020 22:10

In the woodburner.

WilheminaVenable · 05/10/2020 22:11

Taped inside the curtain pole or the pole that holds the side of the next to me crib up (it’s got a cover so you might not even realise there’s a pole in there)

FourPlasticRings · 05/10/2020 22:13

Drop it down the inside of the cavity wall. I don't have to get it out again, right?

CostaCosta · 05/10/2020 22:16

I would get a box of Dairy Milk, choose one of the chocolates, melt it, put the paper clip in the mould and wait for the chocolate to harden again the reseal the box.

Or, I would straighten the clip, cut some of the underwire from my bra and solder the paper clip to the underwire.

Lorddenning1 · 05/10/2020 22:16

I would, attach it to a helium balloon and then let it go

MutteringDarkly · 05/10/2020 22:18

Inside a ball of wool.
Glue-gunned underneath the tab/pull of a zip on a coat.

CostaCosta · 05/10/2020 22:19

@Craiglang haha this is brilliant!!

Bargebill19 · 05/10/2020 22:19

Inside one of the swim tanks or diesel tank of the boat. Or inside the elsan. If it had been 15 years ago inside the pump out tank. Mwah ha ha!

Pjsandbaileys · 05/10/2020 22:22

Straighten it out and push it through and along the undewire of my bra
