So if I put it in my safe, and he assumed it was in there but couldn't crack it to get to it, would I still win?

My safe is behind a large cupboard, so he'd have to figure out the safe was there first, then try and fail to get into it.

When I win, I'll buy a new safe.

We are a family of five, not good at throwing things away and have floor to ceiling bookcases full in the lounge, plus similar bookcases in all bedrooms.

There is no way that he will have time to take apart and move all the furniture/bookcases etc, so chuck it behind the lounge ones, and it will be fine!

By the way - food - flour, ice cream, cheese etc is veyr obviousl, that is where burglars go to find your jewellry (unluckily for the burglars in our house)

I've had a better idea (I realise this is sometime later)
I would stuff it inside some food and shove it in the freezer. There's some chicken curry spare - or even a loaf of bread.

I'm wondering .... if we should all hide it in plain sight?

I'd take inspiration from DS1 when he was a toddler and post it through the slots between the fllorboards like he used to do with my credt cards.

DD has a string of tiny bottle fairy lights which don’t light anymore. I’d pop it in one of those.
