Rousette thanks for the axios interview link! I'm halfway through...
Watching it is akin to self-flagellation but I can't stop.

(On a completely crass note - The interviewer is very "likeable" Wink)

Roussette · 04/08/2020 07:56

NorthWest I watched the whole lot for the same reason as you!

The face of the interviewer from Axios was an absolute picture at different stages of this debacle. and yes, I LIKE him

It was funny to see that McNinny was obviously there (she is fleetingly in the start of the interview walking by), then i could see shadows cast as Trump is talking, so she must've been on hand. I wonder what she was thinking as he dug a small hole for himself. Then he got a big spade and the hole got large. Then he got a digger...

Bloody hell @Roussette.... Just when you think Trump couldn't get any stupider.
Whoever convinced him to do that interview is SO getting fired.
I hope it was Kushner. Or Ivanka

BruceAndNosh · 04/08/2020 08:27

I had to keep checking it wasn't Alec Baldwin and Jonathan Pike

Roussette · 04/08/2020 08:34

Those two never getting fired! McNinny for starters would be good...

Hehe, yes it could well've been those two.
I have to say the graphs 3 minute bit is all over Twitter, and I've watched it a few times, can't help it!

It's set me up nicely for the day Grin

I saw that video and couldn't work out if it was a sketch. Unbelievable.

BruceAndNosh · 04/08/2020 08:42

I'm actually going to watch the whole thing later. I'm sure that Swan practised his professional WTF faces in the mirror ready for this as they are wonderful.

Some of Trump's expressions are priceless... It's like his entire team spent 3+ years telling him it'll snow on Christmas Day and he's just woken up to pouring rain

pinkbalconyrailing · 04/08/2020 08:44

the interviewer was like my lecturer taking apart my thesis.

but at least I could argue my case and knew my stuff Wink

lionheart · 04/08/2020 08:54

Love the way the interviewer's leg starts jigging up and down while Trump is rambling and shuffling his charts.

Just asking for some musical accompanyment.

PerkingFaintly · 04/08/2020 09:24

Swan is doing Paxman-face! Same expressions!

He's intelligent, incisive, and in grasp of the facts. Such a contrast to the cognitive paucity of the orange blob.

And, who looks presidential in that interview? The little orange schoolboy defensively repeating himself and unable to remember words? Or the calm, smart, articulate reporter?

PerkingFaintly · 04/08/2020 09:29

Blustering. That's the word I was looking for. The blustering blob blustered.

BruceAndNosh · 04/08/2020 09:51

Why does Trump always look like someone has cut 6 inches off his chair legs in these interviews? It was the same in the Fox Wallace interview.
He must have very long calf bones and very short thigh bones as he looks way out of proportion

lionheart · 04/08/2020 10:11

*accompaniment. Smile

Lweji · 04/08/2020 10:20

He had clearly rehearsed some lines.

We're beginning to see evidence that the Coronavirus is receding around the country.

The video shows more evidence of Trump's hairline receding

Roussette · 04/08/2020 14:05

Another little gem from the interview, just to whet your appetite Grin

Trump: “I read a lot. I read a lot. They like to say I don’t read. I read a lot. I comprehend extraordinarily well. Probably better than anybody that you’ve interviewed in a long time. I read a lot. I spend a lot of time with – at meetings.”

Another gem from Planet Trump

"You know there are those that say you can test too much," Trump told "Axios on HBO" host Jonathan Swan in an interview set to air on Monday night. "You do know that?"
"Who says that?" Swan asked.
"Oh, just read the manuals," the president replied. "Read the books."
"Manuals?" Swan pressed. "What manuals."
"Read the books, read the books," Trump repeated.

I've noticed Trump is fond of quoting "they" to back up his shaky logic or "facts".
He is normally quoting himself. The only They who said what he implies is common knowledge is himself.
Last month he said "They said it would go away in April".
No YOU said it would go away in April!

Roussette · 04/08/2020 15:41

Yes! I knew there was a bit I forgot. Read the manuals was just hilarious!

It reminds me of my kids when they were little and 'didn't do it' and 'didnt say it'
I used to say... 'So, it was Mr. Nobody then?'
They knew they'd been caught out when I said that Grin

He is such an idiot. Nothing he says makes any sense. And it all comes back to the 'China virus'. Russia bounty? China virus. US presence in the ME? China Virus. The plight of African Americans in America? China Virus.

Oh, and Obama. If it's not blamable on the China Virus it must be Obama's fault.

The thing that riled me up on that interview was the way he 'talked over' the reporter. Just kept talking and talking and wouldn't let the journo get a word in edgewise as if the journo had nothing to say worth hearing. Maybe it's my particular mood today but that is such a classical tactic of an abuser. They 'talk over' their victim when the victim tries to state their case. It's such a (fake) 'intimidation tactic'.

GuyFawkesDay · 04/08/2020 19:45

Yo Semites.

twitter.com/nytimes/status/1290704463880052737?s=20

I mean.....what?!! The whole thing is just bizarre in the extreme. He reads like it's a menu, not a speech.

BruceAndNosh · 04/08/2020 20:41

It's so obvious that a) someone more eloquent has written his speech and b) he hasn't so much as glanced at it in advance.
Yes, Yosemite is a difficult word to pronounce if you're not familiar with it but surely the President has heard someone say the name of such a famous national Park in his 74 years? Maybe whoever produces his notes should write it YoSemity for him

BruceAndNosh · 04/08/2020 20:47

Re the Manuals... I suspect one of his staff has produced a little Idiots Guide to Coronavirus to help him understand the basics and this is what he thinks is an official manual!

AcrossthePond55 · 04/08/2020 20:51

I just came to post the Yosemite clip.

To quote Bugs Bunny, the nemesis of Yosemite Sam; "What a maroon!".

Obviously he doesn't pre-read the speeches he's given.

AcrossthePond55 · 04/08/2020 20:54

I doubt Scrotus has been to a National Park in his entire life.

Except last 4th of July at Rushmore, of course. And he probably only went there so he could picture himself chiseled in stone on the mountain.

Well, he's a chiseler, all right.
