I am so pleased with Kamala being VP. She will wipe the floor with Pence. First good news for ages.

PerkingFaintly · 13/08/2020 07:53

Yes, Kamala vs Pence will be fun to watch. Do you think he'll even turn up?Grin

lionheart · 13/08/2020 07:55

He could send his 'mother' instead.

PerkingFaintly · 13/08/2020 07:59

lionherat, my jaw has dropped at that tripe from Newsweek attempting a birtherism attack on Harris. Partly because I'd have thought it beneath Newsweek, but more because of what it says about the psyche of some Americans.

This isn't a generic accusation of the sort all Presidential candidates face; and it isn't an accusation specific to Harris (Obama faced the same). It looks an awful lot like some Americans "just know" in their guts that people of colour are not American; certainly not American enough to be President.

To the point that when a person of colour so much as stands for vice-President, they "know" she's not eligible and start casting around for feeble justifications for their gut "knowledge". Newsweek's feeble post-facto attempt at justifying the attack, in a subsequent editorial, just digs them in deeper.

I've paused before posting the above, because repetition of fake news and slurs in order to rebut them, boosts them just the same. But given what we know about Trumpies, I reckon this one will be promoted heavily anyway, and I'd rather call it what it is right out of the gate.

lionheart · 13/08/2020 08:08

There has been a bit of a backlash:

lionheart · 13/08/2020 08:15

I knew before I even read the Newsweek defence/explanation that the word 'arcane' would be used.

Roussette · 13/08/2020 08:19

It really is same old same old... is she eligible nonsense.

I found the Jeanne Pirro ciip very concerning. To me it was a call out to violence and a very disturbing thing to say. She wasn't the only one on Fox to do it either, another one did.

Stephen Colbert sums it up.

Roussette · 13/08/2020 11:57

Is this surprising? No...

politicaltribune.org/report-claims-trump-has-nearly-removed-intelligence-briefings-from-his-schedule-entirely/

'It’s widely known that Donald Trump doesn’t read his intelligence briefings as often as former presidents have, but a new report shows a decline in recent weeks. The Huffington Post found that the president “went from a high of 4.1 briefings per week on average in March 2017 to 0.7 per week since July 1, shortly after it became public that he had ignored intelligence reports about Russia offering bounties to the Taliban for each American soldier killed in Afghanistan.” Oh, that would explain why the president hasn’t taken action with Russia. Trump is deliberately ignoring the reports, or the president is just a befuddled old man that doesn’t know what he’s doing — unfit for the highest seat in the land.

The report reveals that Monday’s briefing was the first one he read in August and the first since July 22, and that month had only three briefings scheduled. And that’s astonishing considering the Russian bounties story and interference with our upcoming elections from foreign players.'

0.7. Shock

Not that it makes a bit of difference given the fact that it's Trump.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 13/08/2020 12:58

Newsweek losing credibility.

Not only did you print this birtherisn-on-steroids racist crap, @newsweek, but you failed to disclose this guy ran against Harris and lost AND wrote an article in national review saying exact opposite about Canadian born Ted Cruz. When did Newsweek become both racist AND stupid?

Tranquilliser has worn off, I see.

So far this morning, Trump has called

  • Kamala Harris "a mad woman," "angry" and "condescending"
  • Mika Brzezinski a "ditzy airhead"
  • Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez "not even a smart person"

Trump now adds that "Nancy Pelosi is stone-cold crazy."

AcrossthePond55 · 13/08/2020 14:43

Jeez, his misogyny is on full throttle today, isn't it? And this is just the beginning. We've still got over 2 months until the election.

He has to have something to rail about, something to point a finger at and scream "Look over there! Don't look at me!".

82 days until Election Day. But more worrying is that 78 days between Election Day and Inauguration Day. The only reassuring part is that whatever he does in that period most likely can be undone. Just pray for the health of RBG.

Lweji · 13/08/2020 14:48

His misogyny against Hillary was more tolerated because she was never popular for several reasons.

I suspect it may well become more obvious and less acceptable against Harris, at least for his recently "beloved" middle class, suburban women.

www.bloomberg.com/amp/news/articles/2020-08-12/trump-to-relax-rules-for-showers-after-complaining-about-flow-kdrlkqzh?__twitter_impression=true
The U.S. Energy Department proposed easing water efficiency requirements for shower heads Wednesday following multiple complaints from President Donald Trump about how low water flow is impeding his ability to properly wash his hair
Apparently Trump's actual words were "you can't wash your beautiful hair* Grin

AcrossthePond55 · 13/08/2020 15:10

Why the FUCK does he have to use so many damned adjectives! It drives me crazy. A 'thing' can't simply be a 'thing'. It has to be a 'beautiful' thing, or a 'strong' thing, or 'the best' thing.

I guess it must be the (failed) promoter/developer in him, he has to 'sell' everything. Nothing can just 'be' on its own merits. Like a shill at a sideshow or a carnival barker.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/08/2020 15:33

The only thing the World Service reported in one of their news bulletins this morning about Trump was that he was banging on about water-pressure again, saying he needed better pressure for washing his hair and that mains water-pressure was too low and should be improved. "If you’re like me you can’t wash your beautiful hair properly. You waste 20 minutes longer."

Someone for God's sake install a power-shower at the White House: they're only about three hundred and fifty dollars, and it might shut him up on the subject.

BruceAndNosh · 13/08/2020 16:29

Yesterday the USA recorded its highest daily death toll from Covid-19 since mid May.
And Trump is fretting about washing his ghastly head of hair.

Roussette · 13/08/2020 17:13

Why does he keep banging on about showers, taps, and toilets? It is really strange.

He's doing another presser later. Shock
I wish he'd take more questions and the press pack pushed on the death toll

OP posts:
BruceAndNosh · 13/08/2020 17:37

I'm beginning to get quite frustrated at the lack of challenge from the journalists at his pressers. They all have set questions they want to put and mostly Trump uses the question to springboard another load of inaccurate waffle. Yes, I know he tends to walk off if he doesn't like the question but maybe journos should needle him more. After all, repeatedly refusing to answer questions is bad for his image. And if he shuts down a journalist by calling on someone else, the second journo should just pose the original question again.

Roussette · 13/08/2020 18:13

Totally agree Bruce. Sometimes they do do this, but not enough
