Given that they have to be worn almost everywhere else indoors by over 11s it would be the right thing to do. Adults working in schools have as much right to be protected as bus drivers and shop workers.

So AIBU in agreeing with the NASUWT that masks should be worn in schools by over 11s?

@noblegiraffe

Has this paper been peer reviewed/published? Or just an opinion price?

It doesn’t need peer review as it’s not a piece of research. It’s a team of experts looking at the evidence and forming recommendations based on them. It’s not ‘just’ an opinion piece because it’s a group formed of experts, not, say, Owen Jones.

So not even published?
mumsneedwine · 29/07/2020 20:50

@noblegiraffe well if it was Owen Jones he'd use a photo of flu by mistake. All look the same these viruses 😇

noblegiraffe · 29/07/2020 20:51

Yes, Clav, limited transmission but not no transmission as has been claimed on here, and they acknowledge the lack of data.

mumsneedwine · 29/07/2020 20:54

@Clavinova we have data. But not evidenced data - which is actually an impossibility to factual prove as no one knows where they catch the virus. Flu is thought to be spread in schools but there is no proof. Never will be. But there is anecdotal evidence - I'm sure most teachers can give you that. But doubt you'll believe us.

mumsneedwine · 29/07/2020 20:55

@askmehowiknow see previous post. Basic scientific research protocol.

Appuskidu · 29/07/2020 20:55
@Clavinova there aren't many data sets in schools - because they have been closed to most students. And no one was being tested when they were open. Bit like Priti Patel announcing shop lifting decreased. When shops were shut.
Yep! Or saying shoplifting in Woolworths is non-existent nowWink

Er, yes it’s been published? I linked to it.

Yes sorry I just couldn't see the journal for some reason. Which one
noblegiraffe · 29/07/2020 20:56

Clavinova · 29/07/2020 21:00

I also noticed that the report recommended that teachers be prioritised if a vaccine becomes available - I assume there won't be a problem with teachers refusing to be vaccinated?

noblegiraffe · 29/07/2020 21:00

I just couldn't see the journal for some reason

Eh? It’s a report published by the Royal Society. It’s not supposed to be in a journal.

So an opinion piece from some scientists Smile
mumsneedwine · 29/07/2020 21:01

@Clavinova I'd have been in the trial for it if they let me. I'm first on the queue

noblegiraffe · 29/07/2020 21:03

some scientists

You’ve heard of the Royal Society?

mumsneedwine · 29/07/2020 21:04

@askmehowiknow 😂😂it's from the Royal Society. By eminent scientists who know their stuff. All are involved in the research of the virus first hand. So I think they deserve to be listened too. And lots of papers are now only published on line ??

askmehowiknow · 29/07/2020 21:05

@noblegiraffe

some scientists

You’ve heard of the Royal Society?

Of course

There are many many opinions globally from experts. They don't all agree. They all summarise evidence

mumsneedwine · 29/07/2020 21:07

@askmehowiknow so who do you listen to for scientific evidence if not the scientists researching the virus ? Trump ?

noblegiraffe · 29/07/2020 21:07

Well honestly if you’re going to describe the Royal Society as ‘some scientists’ as if their opinion counts for nothing against yours, then there’s no reasoning with you.

If a paper is published online with no peer review. It speaks for itself

mumsneedwine · 29/07/2020 21:07

@noblegiraffe 👊

mumsneedwine · 29/07/2020 21:08

@askmehowiknow you're ignorance on this is quite scary. Are you a scientist ?

What is the collective name for a group of scientists I wonder? Obviously not 'some' 😂. Does it depend if we agree with their interpretation of the evidence?

Between me and Dh we are involved in treatment and research of covid

mumsneedwine · 29/07/2020 21:13

Oh my god. Now I have heard it all. No words are left to say.
