www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/28/unions-call-for-teachers-in-england-to-be-able-to-wear-face-masks

Given that they have to be worn almost everywhere else indoors by over 11s it would be the right thing to do. Adults working in schools have as much right to be protected as bus drivers and shop workers.

So AIBU in agreeing with the NASUWT that masks should be worn in schools by over 11s?

@askmehowiknow I don't believe you. If you had seen COVID and it's effects you would be doing anything to prevent to the spread.

If a paper is published online with no peer review. It speaks for itself

Oh....just.....no words.....dunning.....krueger.....help

It's an anonymous forum. Anyone can claim to be anything. But at the same time I have no reason to lie.

However I disagree. It's because I'm used to covid that I'm no longer worried.

Try re reading the post he found baffling. I too couldn’t comprehend what we were meant to do in our knickers. Presumably a typo. Strange to double down on claiming he has a comprehension problem.

Like I said one typo. Those in glass houses shouldn't through stones. You can't claim other don't have the brain capacity to understand something, when one little typo throws you off.

winewolfhowls · 29/07/2020 21:20

Beyond baffled that a minority of parents are opposed to masks. Schools will be closed again, maybe several times if they keep having to shut for outbreaks or lack of staff. Parents jobs may be at risk if employers are not sympathetic to this. Christ's sakes people it's common sense, hopefully short term, and is not unrealistic, provided a short break between lessons lets students freshen up outside.
Masks going forward to keep moving forward!

mumsneedwine · 29/07/2020 21:21

@askmehowiknow BS. Total BS. No doctor or nurse who has seen patients die, slowly and painfully, alone, wants to go through another few months like the last ones. No one who has lost someone from COVID would do anything to jepodise others. DD held the hand of a dying patient today, because he could not have any of his family with him. So BS.

And you're not a doctor or nurse. I can tell

askmehowiknow · 29/07/2020 21:25

FYI family are now allowed in with ppe and the fact they weren't at some stage of this pandemic was disgraceful.

Lots of healthcare staff hold hands of dying patients every day. Who wouldn't?!

mumsneedwine · 29/07/2020 21:26

No but my DD has been working on the frontline. And has watched many many die. Has held the hands of many as they died. And I've held her as she sobbed. And I've lost friends and family. And have a 16 year old student who needs a lung transplant. So if you are taking this lightly and are involved in the care of patients you are bonkers. Or are the most deluded person I have ever encountered. If you are a medical professional then you need striking off to protect your colleagues.

Oh my god. Now I have heard it all. No words are left to say.
Oh I'm sure you will think of something.

It's still 50/50 on this thread so far

noblegiraffe · 29/07/2020 22:01

You're not a scientist I can tell!

God knows what you are, but you have clearly heard somewhere that a research finding can be dismissed if it doesn’t appear an a peer-reviewed journal and thinks it applies here. What you are lacking is deeper understanding.

  1. This type of report (have you seen the length for a start?) would not normally be expected to be published in a journal

  2. You think that peer review is validation over and above the fact that it’s a wide-ranging, expert-led report by a team convened by the Royal Society. Andrew Wakefield was published in The Lancet.

They are saying they’re more of a risk to kids at school as they’ll constantly touch their faces and fiddle with the masks. To be honest, I think it’s far too long a time to expect kids to wear masks. I wear a fresh mask at work for an hour and a half at a time with a half hour break in between and my face gets hot and itchy. At times I have to go outside for a breather and take It off. It am careful and take it off by the ears and gel my hands constantly but would a child of any age? I doubt it

FrippEnos · 29/07/2020 22:36

They complain that teachers are shown no respect on MN, yet here they are calling us all uneducated, thick, conspiracies theorists and other such slurs.

Its almost as if you are trying to rewrite history to match your narrative.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 29/07/2020 22:47

Eh? That's exactly what has happened on here. Have you missed it?

Here is what I have seen on this thread.

Teachers giving as good as they are getting and posters getting pissy because teachers (and supporters) are no longer replying in the usual nice way that we do.

As I have said previously,

If you can't take it don't dish it out.

And don't give me the old 'but I was just making a point' bullshit.

Posters have been caught posting trash and they don't like it when it is pointed out to them.

farfallarocks · 29/07/2020 23:13

Adults in offices don’t have to wear them. The economist published an article this week that there have been zero cases of kids transmitting the virus to teachers. This is madness

noblegiraffe · 29/07/2020 23:17

Oh bloody hell they’re tag teaming. Ffs far, read the thread, your points are bollocks and already dealt with.

@FrippEnos 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 There have been a few of those threads today

British medical journal articles:
June - Children are not super spreaders
adc.bmj.com/content/105/7/618.info
July 20th - Addendum to the above
adc.bmj.com/content/early/2020/07/19/archdischild-2020-319908
I think this research is why children should not have to wear masks.

farfallarocks · 29/07/2020 23:34

@noblegiraffe are you really a teacher?
