(LIGHT HEARTED)

Just that really.

I think my favourite was fairly recently - CV related and one of the first responses to was “You dh is literally trying to kill you” (along the lines of not wearing a mask in the shops).

OP posts:

Wasn't there one at the beginning of lockdown where a poster claimed that milk wasn't an essential purchase and the OP should consider putting cheese in her coffee as it was basically the same thing...

I was on that thread. One poster was like a dog with a bone about essential shopping. Apparently DH and I are idiots and a bit thick as he'd bought me chocolate when he was buying milk as he shouldn't have been buying milk in the first place!

There was another post where someone asked for advice as their DH had covid. Someone suggested taping the door if his room shut and using a HEPA filter to suck out the air.

And there was a thread when that Korean correspondent on the BBC had been video-bombed by his children coming in while he was live on TV. All these threads about how the nanny (which was his wife, so...nice racist assumptions there) looked petrified and was probably being abused and how the extremely confident little girl who stomped into the room actually looked nervous, and how the Dad who was stifling laughter looked so furious and cold and they were concerned about the families safety.

I remember that at the time. There were so many threads on other forums too claiming that his wife was a nanny and she looked petrified in the background and she will loose her job. People just like to jump to conclusions to suit their own prejudices.

The recent Handmaids Tale thread where posters said whether they'd be a handmaid, aunt, jezabel or econwive.

Most people liked to think they'd be part of the resistance..... I highly doubt that considering the amount of people on here telling tales on their neighbours during lockdown.

To be fair, that sounds like a very weird thread.

Ha, yes. When the architects of Gilead start recruiting Aunts they will come straight to MN.
pictish · 01/07/2020 22:35

STRAIGHT to mn!

DuineArBith · 01/07/2020 22:38

I remember seeing threads at the time of the murder of Diana Yeates. It was frightening how many people were convinced that Christopher Jefferies was guilty based on the fact that he was "different". When the police took him in for questioning a number were positively smug about the fact that they could tell he was dodgy. Strangely, they all seemed to melt away when it was demonstrated that he had nothing whatsoever to do with the murder.

PablosHoney · 01/07/2020 22:48

When a long term poster came back after a ban one of her fans described her as ‘Just like Rosa Parks’ 😱

canigooutyet · 01/07/2020 22:48

A log it one.

Someone had knocked on ops door and was dressed all in black. Think it was even middle of the day, But the fucker was dodgy and it needed to be logged with the police. You were soooo right not to put the chain on, look through the spyhole and shout who is it, or even pick up the phone and use the video doorbell everyone seems to have.

Oh, yeah, I was there for that one, too. 'Where there's smoke, there's fire' and brilliant nailpolish, 'Must be guilty then, FFS!'
WhereILiveIsWhereIStay · 02/07/2020 03:46

@PablosHoney Was that AF? That was a weird time. MN even told everyone she was just suspended and would be back but wow, the threads were crazy. Loads of people changing their names to stuff like 'free AF' and all these conspiracies about how MNHQ had been influenced by MRAs as a coordinated campaign to take AF down. Threats of de-regging unless she was reinstated immediately.

People pleading with MNHQ that women would literally die at the hands of their partners if AF wasn't here to give them advice for a fortnight.

OTT to the max.

That was utterly ridiculous.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 02/07/2020 04:27

Just as an aside, I really hate this new quote function! It makes the threads so long and repetitive.

I totally agree with you. It's lazy and pointless.
And a bit dim.

It makes the threads so long and repetitive

It certainly does.

And it seems that, with a bit of proofreading, it doesn't have to be that way.
People could just refer to a previous post.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 02/07/2020 04:44

I always said I didn't want it whenever the subject came up! .

WhereILiveIsWhereIStay · 02/07/2020 04:51

@ilovesooty It really was. I just Googled to remind myself and it was even worse than I remembered. Justine having to make a public statement, people suggesting 'AF IS MN, there is no MN without her...people will stop posting if she's not here and the site will just die out'

Drama llamas.

locked2020 · 02/07/2020 05:26

"Wasn't there a thread once where an OP was told to give her house to someone?"

I remember that! Crazy! The parents saying they loved their pets more than their kids was off the wall. It was very recent.

locked2020 · 02/07/2020 05:39

"I recently asked for good educational iPad apps for DS to use in lockdown. Unsure why I thought I'd get decent responses. 1st response was literally seconds after I posted "the best app is OF COURSE, no app. Children should be playing not palmed off with a tablet." .... it went downhill from there!"

That's brilliant! Love it!

Coffeecak3 · 02/07/2020 07:02

The ‘someone wants to use my baby name’ is ridiculous.
A pp has said ‘don’t worry, your child will be fine as she is the older one’ and then gleefully suggested the younger one will be picked on but that’s ok because your dd won’t.
Obviously, according to MN you can never give a name to your child if you even know someone, however vaguely, that may be considering using that name in the next 18 years!

PablosHoney · 02/07/2020 07:03

Yes it was AF, ridiculous. Rosa Parkes indeed 😡

darkcaramel · 02/07/2020 07:06

It’s been a fun thread but naming posters isn’t cool

Ellapaella · 02/07/2020 07:09

I once got told that I must stink of sweat and look like I was walking around in my underwear by an op who has asked for options on what kind of top to wear under a particular cardigan. I had suggested a cami top and that was the reply I got 😂
Seemed a bit extreme to me, especially when the op was asking for suggestions.

ShebaShimmyShake · 02/07/2020 07:22

The quote function is good. The problem is that you can't edit what's within the quote, so you have to replicate the entire post.
