A greedy bastard breakfast

SquishyBones · 09/06/2020 20:34

I was speaking to an old friend this morning who laughed and asked if I still had greedy bastard breakfasts. I asked what he was on about and he started going on about what I used to eat really laughing and banging on and exagurating saying I used to eat a couple of boxes of cereal and 2 loaves of bread etc.

What I actually had was a bowl of cereal, toast, a yogurt and a banana. This is what he called a greedy bastard breakfast. I feel like he’s been taking the piss out of me for years for this but never had the balls to bring it up with me.

PyongyangKipperbang

I'm in, just hope I can remember to take a photograph before I scoff it, if I forget I'll post a pic of the empty plate and a description.

Pyongiandkipperbang (forgive me if I misspelt that!) why are you attacking me?! I am not a small person, I do not have a small appetite, and there is NO WAY I could routinely manage toast, cereal, yoghurt AND fruit for breakfast. That is also a lot of calories and a lot of carbs. How the hell is not eating all of that UNDEREATING?! I don't care, eat what she likes, just commenting it sounds a hella lot to me, and I imagine most people.
The friend is rude though, to mock her or bring it up.

kenandbarbie · 09/06/2020 22:33

I would have one of those things. But then I eat too much in the evening.

Manchmallehrerin · 09/06/2020 22:34

Heck my 4 year old eats that for breakfast! And before anyone starts she is on the 6 percentile for bmi!

zscaler · 09/06/2020 22:34

just commenting it sounds a hella lot to me, and I imagine most people.

It’s an easy mistake to make, assuming that because you feel a certain way, most others must do too. We do tend to fall into the trap of seeing ourselves as the standard of reasonable / normal and anyone who deviates from that as odd. Hopefully the tenor of this thread helps you realise your error.

louderthan1 · 09/06/2020 22:35

That sounds like a perfectly normal weekday breakfast to me. I don't like cereal but I'd definitely have two pieces of toast or two crumpets AND yogurt AND fruit. It might fill me up til lunch or I might have a coffee and a snack mid morning. I'd eat lunch, afternoon snack and dinner too and if that makes me a greedy bastard I really don't care. I work out, I walk a lot, I do sport and I get hungry!
I fucking cannot stand it when people take it upon themselves to comment on what other people do or don't eat.

NoMoreDickheads · 09/06/2020 22:40

It sounds like quite a healthy breakfast. I don't think I would have cereal and toast (but then I might end up having the toast later on. Grin )

I think he's being a bit misogynistic TBH. I don't think a bloke would be called greedy for having that breakfast.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 09/06/2020 22:43

I'm not a huge fan of breakfast food.

I may show up on the Sunday thread with a big plate of Saturday nights leftover takeaway pizza or spicy noodles. Depending on what we decide to have. :o

That's a greedy bastard breakfast.

Spacepocket · 09/06/2020 22:44

Don’t give him a second thought OP.
DH could consume that before 7am and I’ll throw up at the thought of food before 10. But make up for it then!

He’s a rude, obnoxious git who doesn’t deserve your headspace.

Pikachubaby · 09/06/2020 22:45

What’s his beef? Is he self conscious about his own weight? Or judgemental about yours?

I have a colleague who always points out and makes fun of my 2 lunches (eg soup and a sandwich, or a salad and a wrap, to me soup or a salad is a side). She is always on a diet an monitors everyone’s intake. It is to do with her own insecurities and weight though

His comment said more about him than about you

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 09/06/2020 22:47

Have you ever told her to shut the fuck up, Pikachu?

You would be perfectly entitled to do so.

StatementKnickers · 09/06/2020 22:51

I haven't had a full English in ages.

GimmeAy · 09/06/2020 22:52

You must have a massive sized stomach of steel. Breakfast for me is a coffee (or two) - lattes and about 4 cigarettes before I'd get to work. About three/four hours into the day I'll feel hungry (about 10-11am) so will have something savoury, like sausage rolls or a slice of Quiche Lorraine or the dinky little quorn mini sausages which were gorgeous - I'd have about 5 of them (about 30 kcals each). Then I'd have lunch - just a sandwich - usually 350 kcals and then just an evening meal - maybe 500-600 kcals and chocolate or some oaty biscuits at bedtime. I'm slim.
My stomach wouldn't be big enough to hold all you eat at breakfast all at once. I nibble throughout the day.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 09/06/2020 22:55

I'm slim and my stomach could hold what OP has listed no problem.

GimmeAy · 09/06/2020 22:56

I do love a full Irish.
Well, if cooking for myself on the weekend - well when in Ireland

2 pieces of bacon
2 slices of Clonakilty White Pudding
1 flat breakfast mushroom (grilled or fried)
2-3 plum tomatoes from a tin.

The food of Kings.

After that though, I wouldn't be able for lunch, so wouldn't eat again until evening.

Confused124 · 09/06/2020 22:57

A giant breakfast , really Confused
Most important meal of the day ! Seems fine to me .

People that comment on others food are annoying as Hell n normally always have their own insecurities that drive it .

I can eat quite a lot but I eat well and the amount of times I’ll get “ wow that’s a lot, I couldn’t eat all that , I wonder how many calories ... “ blah . Am a size ten I know what I’m doing . Stfu Wink

Sarahlou63 · 09/06/2020 22:57

Snowflakes in June. Rare, but not unheard of...

CorianderLord · 09/06/2020 23:08

I couldn't get annoyed about it tbh, it's just a stupid joke that he clearly didn't think would offend.

It just sounds a lot because people normally undereat for breakfast and then snack all day and eat 700cals at dinner.

It's fine, no different to having a slice of toast at 3pm and a yoghurt and banana at 11am and some cereal at 8am.

I'd bet it's 1000c less than a fry up

rainkeepsfallingdown · 09/06/2020 23:09

As someone who is currently on a diet and is very aware of the calorific value of food, that sounds like it would actually add up to quite a high amount, especially if you pour yourself what most people consider a 'normal' size bowl of cereal and not the actual recommended serving size of 30g.

I don't know if you are/were overweight and what you eat for the rest of the day, and I also don't know why it's his or our business. People can spread their daily calories in whatever way works for their bodies.

However, to me, no matter how high the calories, the type of food consumed doesn't constitute a 'greedy bastard breakfast.' It would have to involve a greasy fry up with big portions.

You could quite happily buy a greedy bastard breakfast at a greasy spoon for 1,500 to 2,000 calories. Part of me really wants one now.

cheermeupifyoucan · 09/06/2020 23:10

@GimmeAy the nicotine and caffeine are suppressing your appetite, it's not to do with stomach size. My 3yo could manage that and his stomach definitely isn't bigger than an adults.

LunchBoxPolice · 09/06/2020 23:11

I love a greedy bastard breakfast, although I don’t usually have time. The best part of going on holiday is having a decent breakfast- I like 3 courses - a starter of fruit and yoghurt, a main of cooked breakfast and then a desert of pancakes/pastries. I’m a healthy weight and don’t care what people think, life’s too short. Your friend is rude.

DisobedientHamster · 09/06/2020 23:19

I'm slim.

Because you are undereating, probably because you smoke and that's known to kill your appetite.

Thinkingabout1t · 09/06/2020 23:21

I just have a sniff of a sparrow's arse and one cornflake which does me until 10pm when I eat two amoeba washed down with a unicorn tear.

Grin
AnnaSW1 · 09/06/2020 23:21

That is a lot to eat for breakfast
