Tying myself up in knots reading and comparing reviews.
Shark? Miele?
Short white dog hairs everywhere on a dark coloured carpet!
My trusty Hetty just isn’t effective - help please!

Miele Cat and Dog is great. Had ours for years and it’s still very effective.

sunshinesupermum · 07/06/2020 18:39

I've decided on this - Hoover H-FREE 500 Pets 3in1 Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner, HF522UPT, from ao.com £179 free delivery arriving on Tuesday.

Snooks1971 · 07/06/2020 18:44

So it’s either the Miele Cat & Dog or a Shark - sorry but those posters who haven’t said which Shark model do you mind telling me which model you have?
@wowfudge Sebo was on my mind too, my decision making is getting worse the older I get Confused
Thanks to all pp

Sorry snooks1971 I was after a budget model! It has plenty of good reviews on Amazon and ao.com. Smile

wonkytonkwoman · 07/06/2020 18:51

I think they're both about the same performance wise, tbh. I've got a few extra attachments for the miele though which I use specially for the pet hair (cat).
If it helps I use the Shark downstairs where I've got more hard floor and the Miele upstairs which is all carpets except the bathroom. The Shark doesn't quite fit under my bed so that's the only reason I use it downstairs - oh and it's better on the stairs than the Miele.

Governoress86 · 07/06/2020 18:54

We bought the Gtech k9 as someone told us they were good for pet hair. Do not get them they are shockingly shite. They don't pick up dog hair and the amount of times the wheels have broke on them and I have had to get them replaced is unbelievable.
We are going for the Vax hoover next as we had a Dyson and didn't like them either.

SummerSazz · 07/06/2020 18:54

My cleaner with experience of many vacuum cleaners asked us to buy a Miele cat and dog when our previous one died. We complied obvs 😁

wowfudge · 07/06/2020 18:57

With Sebo pretty much every single part of their machines can be replaced, but they are built to last anyway.

harriethoyle · 07/06/2020 18:59

I absolutely LOVE my shark, it's fantastic...

Happydaysforever123 · 07/06/2020 19:00

Miele carry and dog, I've had a sebo it is not as good as the Miele.

kfcplease · 07/06/2020 19:13

Hetty!

Snooks1971 · 07/06/2020 19:17

KFC my Hetty is rubbish at picking up the hair, although tbf she’s now about 8-9 years old and bloody heavy lugging up and down the stairs. Fabulous for £99 though, back in the day. She’s also started backfiring a musty odour, even when her bag isn’t full. Poor old Hetty.

Spent far to many hours hoovering......its a miele c3.
Ive only used one shark and to be honest its either older and less effective or it just isnt all that powerful.
Have a look at the wattage of them. I think the miele is the most powerful at 900w.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/06/2020 19:28

I have a Shark Rocket ( 2 black cats and a long haired DD)

It drops a scattering of grit and debris after its switched off . Even if I run the vacuum over the bin a few seconds to let it drop the debris,

I was looking for a stick vacuum ( don't fancy the Henry of the Miele cannister pulling them along)
Wanted a cordless
I've ordered a Halo Capsual (not got it yet) it seems to tick the boxes.

LadyofMisrule · 07/06/2020 21:03

I like my Miele cat and dog, but I didn't factor in the ongoing cost of the bags. And while it is good for pet hair, it's not brilliant for the really long hair of my daughters. I'm forever having to clean the floor head.

MadisonAvenue · 07/06/2020 21:09

I have the Shark Anti Hair Wrap Upright Vacuum Cleaner Plus with Powered Lift-Away and TruePet AZ910UKT and it’s amazing.

Plus, if you buy from their website they make a donation to Dogs Trust and Cats Protection.

DimplesToadfoot · 07/06/2020 21:15

Shark duo lift away anti hair wrap.

I had Dysons but they didn't touch the hair/fur in my lounge rug so every day I brushed it by hand, then last year on Black Friday I managed to snag a Shark and wowzers, I've never had to brush my rug by hand since, it gets all the hairs, the rest of the house is s breeze too. I wish I'd bought one years ago, I'd never get a Dyson again.

User1123456 · 07/06/2020 21:18

Miele cat and dog c3. Also very good for my long thick hair.

Winnipegdreamer · 07/06/2020 21:20

The other day I bought a kit for my Hetty. It had a pet odour filter and some turbo air brushes instead of the standard ones. Most modern hoovers are awful compared to the old strength ones.

DimplesToadfoot · 07/06/2020 21:21

P.s. I got the NZ801UKTfrom Very it was reduced to £200 for black Friday then I found a new customer discount code giving me a further £50 off so I paid just over £150 once delivery was added on ... knowing what I know now I should have bought one years ago never mind the price

BrigitsBigKnickers · 07/06/2020 21:22

Shark duo is great but has some serious flaws in my opinion.

  • lead is too short
  • hose is too short
-falls over when you use the hose
  • gets blocked up too easily- am forever turning it upside down to take out the bar and pull out a tissue or hair tie.
  • container is tiny
-heavy -not easy to use on a small rug or door mat- so powerful it is impossible to move!

But!

  • Really good with pet hair
-Lift away is useful especially in the stairs if you attach the footplate without the long tube -Pet tool is very good -picks up amazingly!
  • anti hair tangle thing works very well.
-easy to empty and clean filters.
  • very quiet
  • good on lots of different floor types( slider thingy on the handle casuals for hard/ carpet and mats)

I had Dysons for years and personally think that the older models were far superior to the ball model I most recently had. My old animal ball dyson lasted 8 years - really not sure the Shark will last that long...
