Tying myself up in knots reading and comparing reviews.
Shark? Miele?
Short white dog hairs everywhere on a dark coloured carpet!
My trusty Hetty just isn’t effective - help please!

@Bluewarbler27 2200w Shock wow that’s like G Force, that’s so powerful. No wonder you call it your ‘proper’ hoover!
@DimplesToadfoot managed to get through to Very (20min queue) and a very nice chap applied the 10% electrical discount for me (£35). I now don’t feel as guilty if I manage to bag an M&S Summer Beauty bag tomorrow....
My Shark has been despatched, hopefully being delivered tomorrow. It’s like Christmas Eve for adults :)

@Snooks1971

Ahh fabulous :-) you know I wouldn't have said anything at all if I hadn't replied to the other poster, I was feeling so bad you had missed out on the deal. I knew about it and would have said, but I didn't think you were going to order so fast or from Very ... at least alls well that ends well with bonus Summer bags :-)

Snooks1971 · 10/06/2020 18:28

Dimples I didn’t intend to order so fast and I’m usually pretty clued up with new discounts, shopping around for price comparisons etc. Like a numpty though I pressed ‘continue’ and the thing was ordered. I’m eternally grateful you did mention the discount - 35 quid is 35 quid!
Even DH is mildly excited Smile

Update for anyone still remotely interested in my boring thread Grin
Well, Shark arrived today, immensely well packaged and easy to assemble.
I took it for a test drive on the small patch of carpet at the bottom of the stairs - gets the most foot traffic and dog likes to sit here and seems to shed enough fur to knit another dog here.
Here are some before/after photos. I’m actually embarrassed and appalled to see what has come out of a small patch of carpet that was throughly hoovered last weekend, so 5 days ago. Bearing in mind we aren’t even leaving the house much.
The first pic is a strip of said carpet approx 130cm x 40cm! Look at the dirt - like sand!
Have done the stairs, upstairs landing and one bedroom. Had to empty the pod 3 times... Shock

That’s on a A4 book btw, for the scale of sheer disgustingness.

Wow I am glad you are pleased with it.. I still havent ordered but need to now I have signed up for a blue light card!
It is the choices that I struggle with as I want to get it right. Need duo clean as hard floor and one bedroom and stairs has carpet. Not sure I need anti hair wrap. I prefer the bristles on the power brush attachment and not sure on the anti hair wrap power brush attachment. Have you got that attachment with your one?

Snooks1971 · 11/06/2020 21:03

chocolatespiders do you mean the pet power brush attachment? My choice was specifically because of pet hair, also DD has long hair and so I thought anti hair wrap was a good idea.
Having said that, this sharkclean.co.uk/product/shark-anti-hair-wrap-upright-vacuum-cleaner-xl-truepet-model-az950ukt/ looks like an amazing deal, but I didn’t see it in time. Might be too big for your needs though?

chocolatespiders · 11/06/2020 21:32

Yes the pet power attachment I have seen has bristles and the anti hair wrap pet power attachment looks like it has rubber blades- is that right? If you have the pet power attachment I would be interested to see how it fairs. Thanks

Update for anyone still remotely interested in my boring thread

I've been checking in regularly waiting for this 🙈. I think I'm sold, that sandy dust is doing it for me! Are you impressed with it? Worth the money?

Snooks1971 · 11/06/2020 23:37

userxx I’m really impressed. We hoover twice a week, especially the stairs and the bit at the bottom of the stairs in the photo. If you can wait til tomorrow I’m going to hoover that bit again and see what it brings up. No one has been in/out since, just us walking over it.
I agree, that sandy dust is an eye opener! Yuk!

Sorry chocolate just seen this. Let me have a proper look tomorrow, it’s all parked up. I think it has rubber blades but I will check and report back :)

Woop woop! Can I say 'I told you so' ... its amazing yet mortifying the first time you use it, like you I went through the whole house .. then again and again the following few days , thankfully the novelty has worn off now and when I hoover I'm like meh! minger! Its only me (long hair) and the dog and the amount of detritus I hoover up is quite shocking but satisfying.

P.s. make sure you register it with Shark for the warranty/guarantee

P.p.s. if you really want grossing out .. hoover your bed ... hasn't stopped me letting the dog sleep on it though

thefourgp · 12/06/2020 02:13

Well you’ve sold me @Snooks1971. I’ve just ordered one from very with the 10% discount too. I am so sick of having to scrub my carpet with my crappy Dyson over and over and it still doesn’t pick everything up. I’ve never liked it and having a cat with long hair can be a nightmare. I’m really glad I sat up so late having a scroll through mumsnet now. Grin

loobylou44 · 12/06/2020 09:22

@chocolatespiders the pet tool has rubber bits instead of brushes. It works a treat picking up the hair from my forever moulting labrador!

BrigitsBigKnickers · 12/06/2020 13:12

I've got the pet tool too and it's great- I use it on the stairs too. One thing I realised just today is that you can take off the whole pipe and attach the footplate to the small handle at the top which makes doing the stairs much easier.

chocolatespiders · 12/06/2020 18:43

Order placed Smile

Cant believe this is the most excitement I get on Friday nights now!

Snooks1971 · 12/06/2020 19:03

Just catching up, I’ve been hoovering all day! And really enjoyed it! And that’s something I thought I would never say.

Yesterday I felt a bit clumsy and clunky with it, today more of a pro, expertly changing the accessory tools depending on the situation and chopping and changing between handheld and upright.

As promised, I hoovered the small section at the bottom of the stairs again - see attached. I promise it isn’t the same photo!! Minging.

Also fully hoovered middle DS bedroom, again the cylinder was full. Although I did do the dreaded under bed dust balls too.

And the lounge, moving all the furniture, meaning I had to empty the cylinder several times. Oh the satisfaction!

@thefourgp ooh how exciting I hope you will be as chuffed as I am! I imagine you will take delivery middle of next week?

And chocolatespiders I agree it’s totally exciting 🥳 and hope you got your discount too.

@DimplesToadfoot good point re the guarantee, I read your post and have just done it, thanks for reminder. Haven’t done any beds yet but I’m weirdly looking forward to it. I like to tackle any new section or area with an empty cylinder so that I can get the maximum grim satisfaction out of it.

Shark liftaway.

motherheroic · 13/06/2020 09:43

Oh. I see you made the right choice!

Splattherat · 13/06/2020 09:45

Watching with interest we have a hairy golden retriever. We currently have a Dyson cordless cant remember the model but i don’t rate it. The charge doesn't last long and I hate emptying it as it fills up fairly quickly and you have to bang the cylinder on the bin and sometimes have to poke all the hair out with something.

Snooks1971 · 13/06/2020 10:38

@thefourgp will be definitely watching this space!
@chocolatespiders wow today?! Hope so - let us know how you get on. Can’t believe how invested I am in this.
@Splattherat it does pick up hair beautifully. Our dog has short white wiry hairs, she only has to wag her tail and she sheds (everywhere). She’s a big Olde English Bulldog too. However, it’s gone beyond the hair pick up for me now, it’s the ground in dirt/dust that it picks up that is the game changer. Sorry if I sound like an advert, I’m not, it’s just I’m realising how ineffective my old Hetty was. RIP Hetty.
