I am in need of films that will actually keep me engaged and take my mind off my life at the moment, nice rom coms don't cut it right now! So please send your list of weird/disturbing/unsettling films my way

The Piano Teacher is pretty the most unsettling film I’ve ever seen but I’m not sure I’d recommend it. Have you seen Hereditary or Misommar (both by the same director) they’re unsettling but in a good way, if you like horror anyway.

Sleepers

turnthebiglightoff · 30/05/2020 12:59

YY to Threads and Black Mirror, White bear. Terrifying both. Also the Children's Hour with Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine.

VirginWestCoast · 30/05/2020 13:00

The Elephant Man.
It does not give you a particularly good perspective on humanity.

TazSyd · 30/05/2020 13:00

Yes, 28 days later and the sequel, 28 weeks. Also Contagion.

The Green Mile was on tv last weekend, watched it years ago. I found it unsettling.

The Visit

Dead Mans Shoes. It really haunted me for days, mainly because I have a brother very similar to the character Anthony.

LoseLooseLucy · 30/05/2020 13:01

Yes to Funny Games (the original). That disturbed me.

FourTeaFallOut · 30/05/2020 13:01

There's a home invasion movie called Cherry Tree Lane set in London that wigged me out for quite some time.

Wolf creek

Nocturnal Animals

BarkandCheese · 30/05/2020 13:04

Also Creep and Creep 2, the ones with Mark Duplass in, not the Creep film set in the London tube, which isn’t bad but is more a traditional horror film.

LittleFurryGoosegog · 30/05/2020 13:04

Hotel Mumbai.

I watched most of it with DP and FIL, and it's just so irredeemably bleak that I walked out in tears just before the end. The fact that it's based on real events made it much harder to bear. It's definitely unsettling, but I wouldn't recommend it!

FrauleinF · 30/05/2020 13:05

Adding my vote for "The Platform" to the others...

TheNextCaroleMiddleton · 30/05/2020 13:05

I Spit On Your Grave was genuinely unsettling, highly recommended

Missgemini · 30/05/2020 13:05

Sinister
The skeleton key

2 movies that shook me!

whatshebininagain · 30/05/2020 13:05

Tideland. Terry Gilliam film so obviously weird but for some reason left me unsettled for days.

IneverHadTheLatin · 30/05/2020 13:05

Sophie's Choice

metronome1 · 30/05/2020 13:06

Definitely dead man's shoes.

Also recently watched one called midsommar which I found disturbing. It's so bizarre.

The Platform, weird film but strangely whatchable.

didyoueverdancewiththedevil · 30/05/2020 13:08

This is good too

Oh yes, Dead Man’s Shoes. Years since I watched it but thinking about it now is giving me the shivers.
