The Saw films I just can't stomach.

babayjane67 · 30/05/2020 13:47

Both old films but really disturbed me!
I second Jigsaw too.didnt watch anymore after that!
Also the first Hellraiser.Again, didn't watch anymore!

5stringtele · 30/05/2020 13:47

I think Human Centipede 2 is worse than the first. I made my MIL watch it with me and we're both still disturbed by it Grin

Fucktacula · 30/05/2020 13:48

No Escape

TurquoiseDress · 30/05/2020 13:48

Oh God- Hostel

I watched it over a decade ago & found it highly disturbing, there are still scenes I can recall perfectly!Confused

RedRec · 30/05/2020 13:49

The Lovely Bones.

MotherofPearl · 30/05/2020 13:49

Funny Games directed by Michael Haneke. Not at all funny. Actually all his films are unsettling.

Dead Man Walking. This really stayed with me.

PennyNotSoWise · 30/05/2020 13:50

Jigsaw - the first one, the numerous sequels don’t have the same impact

Do you mean the first Saw, Furries? I just ask because Jigsaw is actually one of the sequels, kind of a soft reboot of the franchise.

acatcalledjohn · 30/05/2020 13:51

I'm not one for choosing to watch horror/thriller/dark themed films. However K-19: The Widowmaker made me feel really horrible.

Furries · 30/05/2020 13:51

@TheSandgroper - I was just coming back on to post Once Were Warriors, very disturbing.

DogInATent · 30/05/2020 13:52

Antichrist. One of only two films I've ever walked out the cinema on before it finished.

Starbonnet123 · 30/05/2020 13:52

I love the book thief, don't think its on tv at the moment but I got it for £2.99 on Amazon prime

Furries · 30/05/2020 13:53

As a slight twist, if you fancy a book rather than a film, then I am Pilgrim is one of the best books I’ve read for a while.

Also Stephen King’s The Shining is way better than the film - the scenes I built up in my head were way scarier than the film and I was almost too freaked out to go to bed which never normally happens to me.

TazSyd · 30/05/2020 13:55

Once Were Warriors. It’s years since I watched that. Agree that it is very disturbing.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 30/05/2020 13:56

I think I saw this on Amazon Prime - Fish Tank. Michael Fassbender plays (horribly convincingly) a man who grooms his partner's fifteen year old daughter. It's set on a London estate and the bleakness of it (setting and subject matter) was horribly, utterly believable and so disturbing because of it. That has stayed with me.

One of Heath Ledger's very early films was a film called Blackrock, where a teenage boy witnesses his friends raping a girl and has to decide what to do in the aftermath.

Pangur2 · 30/05/2020 13:56

Some great films here. Threads and When the Wind Blows are great, as is The Road. Bone Tomahawk really disturbed me. If you want engaging but not terrifying, with a bit of humour, I also recommend The Guard. I also watched Calm with Horses the other day, which was great.

Pangur2 · 30/05/2020 13:57

Jesus, I used the word great too many times there, haha. I wish there was an edit button.

Selfsettling3 · 30/05/2020 13:58

Blindness.

tinkletilt · 30/05/2020 13:59

The road, has stayed with me for years, I usually rewatch at least once a year.

The descent, group of women exploring a cave, very tense, a few scares as well.

Haven’t seen it for years, but the accused, Jodie foster rape, really upset me when I first saw it.

chickensaresafehere · 30/05/2020 14:00

Oh & Passion of the Christ is very disturbing,if you're religious or not.

Starbuggy · 30/05/2020 14:00

12 Years a Slave was very unsettling, gripping but uncomfortable to watch (which I think is the point)

More random but an old Rock Hudson film called Seconds. I found it brilliant but disturbing. It’s core concept is something that has always fascinated me, the idea of reinvented yourself, but a sinister take on it.

wendywoopywoo222 · 30/05/2020 14:00

The Ghost and the Darkness unsettled me and still pops up in dreams sometimes.

Awakenings also stays with me.

MrsMop1964 · 30/05/2020 14:02

Threads disturbed me in the 80s and it disturbed me again when I saw it recently. I was 20 when it came out and it was far too realistic for me. I still feel dread when I think about it. I'm not trying to put anyone off-it was excellent!

PastramiNoRye · 30/05/2020 14:02

Clockwork Orange.

Agree with Funny Games too.

LBB2020 · 30/05/2020 14:03

Thought of a couple more, they are old films but have definitely stayed with me! The Colour Purple and Flowers in the Attic.
Hostel disturbed me, couldn’t sleep after watching it at the cinema
