I am in need of films that will actually keep me engaged and take my mind off my life at the moment, nice rom coms don't cut it right now! So please send your list of weird/disturbing/unsettling films my way

OP posts:

@Fourtreefallout I second Cherry Tree Lane.

I will also add Chained. A horror that really f**ked me up. Think it's directed by Sofia Coppola and some big names in it but OMG......

Winnipegdreamer · 31/05/2020 18:28

I’ve watched a lot of these and haven’t felt unsettled. I would say the most unsettling film I’ve ever watched is Watership Down, is that weird!?

houseofhungryboys · 31/05/2020 18:40

The Green Mile

ladykuga · 31/05/2020 18:56

@Witchofzog I quite agree regarding Threads. I have it on DVD as well. It depressed me so much, all I can do is just look at the cover and put it back. Not likely I'll watch it again. After watching that I think I'd rather go in the initial blast.

ilovecardigans · 31/05/2020 18:58

@ASmallBoxofChocolateBunnies - I've just looked up The Brave and I think I would really struggle to watch that. Also, the original director of the film killed his wife and daughter before committing suicide before filming was due to start. ~shudder~

ladykuga · 31/05/2020 19:01

@overnightangel OMG yes the Wicker Man. Amazing film but I cannot listen to them singing that song at the end. I nearly lost my mind. Christopher Lee and Edward Woodward were amazing in that film.

ilovecardigans · 31/05/2020 19:02

Have remembered another one which I don't think anyone has mentioned yet - 10 Cloverfield Lane. God, it was stressful viewing!

DameFanny · 31/05/2020 19:40

Oh yes to ilovecardigans - best of the trilogy for me - just human scale enough to get under your skin

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 31/05/2020 19:52

Audition
Creep
Sinister
Kill List
Hereditary

SugarPlumFairyCakes · 31/05/2020 19:59

Threads - yes, would want to go in the first blast and not survive. Truly unsettling.

The Accused - cried at the injustice of that poor girl's rape and how she was treated. Angry, appalled tears.

The Killing Fields - the sheer horror of the Khmer Rogue regime in Cambodia. Fields and fields of skeletons and bodies. Horrific.

StrikeItLuckyShuffle · 31/05/2020 20:02

The Borderlands
Definitely unexpected ending weird

It’s On amazon prime at the mo

qwertyuiop098 · 31/05/2020 20:31

Get Out

Hereditary

Lougle · 31/05/2020 20:57

Shawshank and The Green Mile. Just the injustice.

Black Swan - I thought I was going to watch a nice film about ballet. I had to convince my dog to watch the second half with me.

Arlington Road is my all time most disturbing film (I don't do horror, but psychological thrillers get me).

Leon - it's old but it's a masterpiece.

malificent7 · 31/05/2020 21:23

Face Off
Eyes wide shut

Katjolo · 31/05/2020 21:24

Oh yes. I forgot Black Swan. Not what I expected at all.

Cherrysoup · 31/05/2020 21:24

The Shining. Shit me right up.

userxx · 31/05/2020 21:30

American history X

LyndaSnellsSniff · 31/05/2020 21:48

Requiem For A Dream
Mulholland Drive
Lost Highway
Manhunter
The recent remake of It. I had to stop watching because it was just horrible. 🎈
Jacob’s Ladder
Naked Lunch
A Clockwork Orange

TiddlestheCat · 31/05/2020 22:42

Lion is another amazing film. It's onNetflix at the mo.

tttigress · 31/05/2020 23:00

Oldboy (Korean Film)

haverhill · 31/05/2020 23:06

I recently watched a film from 1970 called Bartleby. It was disturbing (not at all horrific, just disturbing). It’s on Amazon Prime.
The Haunting (1960)
The Whisperers
Children of Men

MysweetAudrina · 31/05/2020 23:17

Platform Netflix. Wish I hadn't watched it. I watched it about 3 weeks into lockdown and it's the only time in lockdown that I felt unsettled.

AWaspOnAWindowReturns · 31/05/2020 23:41

The Perfectionist. Christ on a bike, it turned my stomach.

And Fractured. Not as much, but still enough. Whenever one of my kids sings "I can sing a rainbow", it makes my teeth hurt.

IdblowJonSnow · 31/05/2020 23:46

The Ring. I used to love horror films, I've only seen one or two since that. It's actually quite sad as well as creepy as hell.

19lottie82 · 01/06/2020 05:01

Lion? Unsettling? I thought it quite warmed my heart 😂
