I can't watch horror films but I did see Changeling, and that really affected me as it is based on a true story.

FirTree31 · 01/06/2020 06:02

Hereditary

Sophiafour · 01/06/2020 06:04

Seven.
Dirty Pretty Things.

Rob Roy (one scene in particular).

The Innocents (original version with Deborah Kerr).
The Haunting (original version, much scarier than the remake).

Breaking the Waves. Emily Watson is just heart-breaking in it.
Mona Lisa, the first time I saw it (I was just 18 and had led a relatively sheltered life in many ways. It really brought home to me how seedy London could be.)

And though not films....

Lots of Black Mirror episodes. Although we now appear to be living several of them, so in that respect not much of what's happening around us came as much of a surprise in this household.

Several episodes of Outlander.
Several episodes of Peaky Blinders.
The episode of Casualty where the hospital blows up (I think it's only been shown on TV once to my knowledge, and it's at least 25 years old now but it really was harrowing).

Case 39 with Renne zellweger

Me before you 😭

Sophiafour · 01/06/2020 06:11

And just to add, if you're looking for films that aren't disturbing exactly but will probably get you thinking, then

Interstellar
Moon
I am Mother
and assorted other science fiction on Netflix

pollyglot · 01/06/2020 06:58

Sophie's Choice - watched late at night while feeding my newborn daughter. Like a dagger in the heart.

MeglaFlop · 01/06/2020 08:11

Bambi

KILNAMATRA · 01/06/2020 08:52

Crash was horrible..

bluetongue · 01/06/2020 08:53

I’ve now watched The Platform thanks to this thread. It was certainly thought provoking (and pretty bleak).

pigoons · 01/06/2020 13:14

I had to turn Breaking the Waves off after about 20 minutes - it was so dismal / bleak / unrelenting and misogynistic

marmite92 · 01/06/2020 13:31

@Sophiafour yes love films that get me thinking too! Thanks for the suggestions Grin

The Swimmer

SimplySteveRedux · 01/06/2020 15:20

I know it's more of a biographical film, but Unrest on Amazon is extremely sad and provokes much thought.

Apirateslifeforme · 01/06/2020 22:49

Thank you thank you! I've been needing to find something for watch!!

thenightsky · 01/06/2020 23:00

The Life of David Gale. Films about the death penalty always get to me.

Tartan333 · 01/06/2020 23:02

Mum and Dad
Never let me go
The Purge
Wolf Creek

user1496146479 · 01/06/2020 23:08

The Impossible & The Boy in the striped Pyjamas

ArtistOfTheFloatingWorld · 01/06/2020 23:11

Hotel Rwanda

MotheringShites · 01/06/2020 23:13

Let The Right One In. The original Swedish version, not the American remake.

OneOfTheGrundys · 01/06/2020 23:16

I found Deliverance really disturbing.

Brokenchair1 · 01/06/2020 23:20

Mothman prophecies- haunted me for ages
Labyrinth? The Spanish one. Sorry tired and forgetful.
The others - very unsettling

Dazzband · 01/06/2020 23:22

The Descent, and we need to talk about Kevin

Whatafustercluck · 01/06/2020 23:26

Hereditary.

I've always been tempted by Wolf Creek but always stop just short of watching it.

nanbread · 01/06/2020 23:40

Has anyone suggested Climax yet?

nanbread · 01/06/2020 23:41
