I am in need of films that will actually keep me engaged and take my mind off my life at the moment, nice rom coms don't cut it right now! So please send your list of weird/disturbing/unsettling films my way

Happynow001 That’s the one. The changeling trope always scares me, it’s an old Irish legend. I just read a book about it happening - Little Darlings. It was so unnerving!

PulyaSochsup · 31/05/2020 09:27

The 1989 version of the Woman in Black. Terrifying, but without any of the big shocks that the newer film makes use of. I gave birth in January 2011 and watched it whilst doing night feeds. I was literally terrified, I could not leave the room even to visit the loo. I think I will rewatch it this morning😱. It will make tidying up much more interesting. It is on YouTube, I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Spudina · 31/05/2020 11:49

@PulyaSochsup I’ve got the DVD. The original Woman in Black was terrifying. The bit where he is in bed and finds the toy. Still makes me shiver.

ASmallBoxofChocolateBunnies · 31/05/2020 11:53

The Brave - Johnny Depp. The premise is just...awful. Watched it years ago and still think about it.

MsJuniper · 31/05/2020 11:56

We watched Under the Skin on Prime the other night, really good and disturbing.

Midsommar is good and unsettling in a different way.

PulyaSochsup · 31/05/2020 11:57

Spudina, where did you get that? I am going to watch it on YouTube whilst I do my jobs. The music is terrifying too. The scene with the toy is so marvellously subtle, I think that makes it more frightening than ever.

bluetongue · 31/05/2020 12:08

Has anyone else suggested Chernobyl?

A series not a movie but truly terrifying, unsettling and scariest of all, true.

bluetongue · 31/05/2020 12:32

Just thought of another one, The Witch, about an isolated family in 17th century America with a suspected witch in the area. Very creepy and unsettling.

Alicesweewonders · 31/05/2020 12:38

The Whistleblower

Blindness

The Killer inside me

It Follows

overnightangel · 31/05/2020 12:44

Yes to The Machinist, The Wicker Man, American History x and Threads.

My first thought for the thread was Rosemary’s Baby

marmite92 · 31/05/2020 12:54

Thanks everyone, so many films to get through! I watched Melancholia last night, not a horror film but definitely thought provoking

Pan’s Labyrinth and it’s ‘brother’ film, The Devil’s Backbone.

priya38 · 31/05/2020 15:06

For anyone who's not got prime like me you can go to the internet archives and the film Threads is there to watch for free.

priya38 · 31/05/2020 15:07

It's archive.org

alltoomuchrightnow · 31/05/2020 15:24

I don't have time to read all the other posts but definitely Mullholland Drive and most things Lynch! (but I kinda like that)...Fire Walk With Me too but it's probably my favourite film...
The Constant Gardener did too but not in a good way... just horrible

alltoomuchrightnow · 31/05/2020 15:25

Bad Boy Bubby is certainly unsettling, my ex housemates were obsessed with it..

alltoomuchrightnow · 31/05/2020 15:27

Wolf Creek, but to say 'unsettling' is a bit of an understatement!

BashandSparrow · 31/05/2020 15:27

Midsommar
Hereditary

alltoomuchrightnow · 31/05/2020 15:28

Definitely When The Wind Blows, but I"m sure that's been said on here already

alltoomuchrightnow · 31/05/2020 15:32

Of course! How could I forget. The original of The Vanishing (1988) is the most unsettling film I've ever seen in my life!
I've never got that out of my head and I'm certain it's where much of my nightmares and fears come from....(won't spoil it for those who want to watch but ... yep...worst demise I could think of...)

easyandy101 · 31/05/2020 17:38

Happiness

Not the one when you've been awake for 3 days and looking for a light watch

Phifedean123 · 31/05/2020 17:46

Not sure if already mentioned but probably Irreversible or Lilya 4 Ever. Both so unbelievably bleak.

FourTeaFallOut · 31/05/2020 17:56

Oh God - Irreversible - the only movie I've had to fast forward through.

Thelnebriati · 31/05/2020 17:58

Its not a film, but if you haven't watched the series Chernobyl you have really missed out.

Amfeelingfline · 31/05/2020 18:04

Requiem for a dream, don’t know what possessed me to watch it twice...once was way too many..
