Interested in how many peoples views on lockdown have changed. I know mine have and that of most of my family and friends.

YABU - nope, still resolutely sticking to the rules
YANBU - fuck it, if it’s ok for him to tour the country with a car full of coronavirus then I can go visit my mum?

Due to circumstances I can’t actually go visit my mum. But after this, if I could be doing then I would be doing.

And I am heartened by all those who say they will continue. People like me need people like you, and it’s great to have the reminder that all people are not twats

@iVampire ❤️

Yes I have, and I also suspect many on this thread who have said the opposite have too.

I won't, because I'm not a dick, but I have thought about it.

I have a toddler, I know how hard work they are - especially when you're ill. I was never under any other impression that if DH or I got Ill, we ALL had to self isolate and not leave home.

MadameMarie · 25/05/2020 08:17

@Music101

Still plenty of decent folk who will do the right thing.

AnneKipanki · 25/05/2020 08:17

Is there a *paid poster “ on here ?

Is there a paid poster “ on here ?*

Yes, Labour has hundreds on Mumsnet at the moment going by all the Cummings threads

OhTheRoses · 25/05/2020 08:20

I think the purpose of the trip was entirely reasonable and in his circumstances I'd have done exactly the same rather than risk my child having to be found temporary care via the local authority which would likely have involved more people, external to my immediate family. I also don't think what he did broke the guidance or the law. Unlike the behaviour of the lady health specialist or Ferguson the trip was not gratuitous.

It's high time lockdown eased and has in my opinion been far too rigorous although my family has complied. Cummings is a data geek and would have been able to carry out a risk assessment.

The Queen retreated to Windsor; the Cambridges to Anmer and Boris recuperated at Chequers.

What I want know is if the press knew weeks and weeks ago, why has this news only just broken?

Nihiloxica · 25/05/2020 08:23

What I want know is if the press knew weeks and weeks ago, why has this news only just broken?

Wasn't it reported at the time but just not a big hoo haa made of it? Confused

It doesn't seem like new news to me.

Maybe it was just on Twitter.

OhTheRoses · 25/05/2020 08:23

And why English people would want to sneak to Wales I've no idea. The rate of infection in Wales is far higher than in England. The English should be manning the Welsh borders to keep out the Welsh, not vice versa.

PJsEveryday · 25/05/2020 08:24

I was so tempted. I sobbed and sobbed yesterday and decided enough was enough and decided to see my parents sometime this week (keeping my distance outside). I'm glad I didnt phone and make plans as this morning I'm not sure it's a great idea. The desire to hug my wee mum would be so great. My dad had has CV, my mum had no symptoms but it's still not worth the risk.

Noconceptofnormal · 25/05/2020 08:24

We all need to come out of lockdown anyway, it is ridiculous and damaging that it is gone on so long.

If Dominic Cummings helps people come to that realisation then he's done us a favour.

bulletjournalbilly · 25/05/2020 08:24

Because @OhTheRoses the media are running out of things to report on Covid19

Figures going down, NHS staff returning to their normal jobs twiddling their thumbs (family GP and nurse confirmed this) Nightingale Hospitals sat unused. NO 2nd spike from VE Day celebrations that sent the doom and gloom brigade into a panic.

Oysterbabe · 25/05/2020 08:25

His behaviour hasn't changed my opinion or actions at all. That said, I'm done with lockdown and think it should end now with some social distancing still in place. The curve is flattened, when did this turn into no one must catch the virus at all? It's time to get on with things.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 25/05/2020 08:25

Yes, I'm not playing by the rules if Dominic Cunting isn't.

So pissed off with them, I'm.off to see my dad today for a bbq, although will respect the 2m rule

TheVanguardSix · 25/05/2020 08:25

Nope.

iVampire · 25/05/2020 08:26

I think the purpose of the trip was entirely reasonable and in his circumstances I'd have done exactly the same rather than risk my child having to be found temporary care via the local authority

But that’s not the correct either/or

He could have had his child picked up by the family member who had agreed to look after him during parents’ incapacitation, or another family member who volunteered to do taxi duty

The idea that it was what he did or SS is utterly and totally wrong

OhTheRoses · 25/05/2020 08:26

Totally agree with noconceptofnormal. London certainly needs to lock out.

Aquis123 · 25/05/2020 08:26

YABU to the max. Just cause he's an a-hole does not mean you should be that way too. Angry

WhatsHappeningCaroleBaskin · 25/05/2020 08:26

@Noconceptofnormal thing is, we can't come out of lockdown until children are back in schools and everyone can go back to work. Every time there is a mention of that, Everyone is up in arms and waving about how it's too soon.

jugglingbeans · 25/05/2020 08:26

Yabu. I know what the right thing to do is and I'm protecting my family as much as I can despite two of us doing higher risk jobs. We aren't twats.
I've emailed my mp, it'll be interesting to see what he says as he's a Tory yes man.

AnneKipanki · 25/05/2020 08:26

There is NO WAY that child would be going into LA care .

bulletjournalbilly · 25/05/2020 08:27

Just go and see them @PJsEveryday ! Fuck sake they could die anyway, not Covid related, will you be sat there happy you never saw them because you didn't want to be like Cummings??

PennyArrowBar · 25/05/2020 08:28

What familyofaliens said. What Dominic Cummins did was legal, responsible and acting with integrity. So that's what I shall be doing.

OhTheRoses · 25/05/2020 08:29

Yes he could have had the child collected but that would still have necessitated a 500 mile roundtrip and the child would doubtless have had to be returned. It makes perfect sense to me for the parents to take the child and disrupt the soutine of a child with autism as little as possible. A child who otherwise may have been very distressed on the journey.

jugglingbeans · 25/05/2020 08:29

There is so little of the virus in the community now that it is jeopardising the ability to create and test the vaccine

Do you have a source for this ?

FancyARoot · 25/05/2020 08:30

Yes, Labour has hundreds on Mumsnet at the moment going by all the Cummings threads

Well I’m a long term Tory voter so it’s not me. And I hardly think it’s surprising how many threads they are given what the dickhead’s gone and done.
