Hairy armpits - liberating or gross?

As I'm unable to go swimming at the moment I haven't bothered/been able to keep up with many of my usual beauty/maintenance routines.

For the first time in my life I now sport long underarm hair and am quite fascinated by it! It's very unfashionable in England, but I like it. What are your experiences..?

I'm tempted to keep it and wondering wha

@StarlightLady Facial hair is visible, underarm hair on the whole is not.

StarlightLady · 24/05/2020 12:29

@SerenDippitty - lf l had any it would be visible with my summer tops.

Fleamaker123 · 24/05/2020 12:32

Each to his own and all that... But it's not for me. It looks like pubic hair sticking out. I don't like long beards on men either, for the same reason. It's all the same type of hair.

IdblowJonSnow · 24/05/2020 12:35

Neither. However I dont like to see hairy armpits on men or women. I've also noticed that my armpits are more likely to smell if I've not shaved them for a bit.

justtb · 24/05/2020 12:37

Didn't shave my arm pits for about 6 months last year and I did love it! But I ended up shaving them again for reasons I can't even remember.

You do you 💖

MerryDeath · 24/05/2020 15:35

neither. it's natural.

It's up to the person. I preferr either very short or shaved, otherwise, well as others, I smell myself even with deodorant.
But if someone doesn't have that issue and like it longer, I wouldn't judge.

I don't care about someone's body hair unless they are in my food🤷🏻

SpudsGuns · 24/05/2020 15:57

I've never removed any of my body hair. I wear sleeveless tops and swimsuits. I don't give a hoot what anyone thinks of my pit rugs.
Sometimes I will even lift my arm up and give it a stroke to freak out one of the young women at work who is a slave to her razor.
I shower daily when I get out of bed with a nice soap and use anti perspirant.
No one has ever said I smell, other than smelling nice.
Each to their own I say. If they want to be hirsute or not is entirely their own choice.

blettedmedlar · 24/05/2020 16:07

My hair is almost white blonde, so a little regrowth is almost invisible, both armpits and legs. It's also very fine. I do shave, and epilate in the summer, not as frequently in the winter. But outside of lockdown I swim frequently, so I prefer to shave. It is cultural, I think. I'm sure I would be more vigilant about shaving if my hair was darker.

user127819 · 24/05/2020 16:18

It's gross for me because I get body odour when I have armpit hair. Shaving prevents the body odour and makes me feel so much cleaner.

I don't really care what others do with theirs as long as they're clean and hygienic.

laudete · 24/05/2020 16:45

I would say "uncomfortable" rather than liberating or gross. If you're going to grow out your body hair, I'd suggest that summer isn't the best time; the colder months seem a more logical choice. The ancient civilizations removed their body hair - I think people who lived in hot climates (and no aircon back then) definitely knew that excess body hair adds to how hot and sticky you feel.

TAKESNOSHITSHIRLEY · 24/05/2020 19:55

i havent shaved anything in well over 25 years and im 39

few reasons
1 i have severe PCOS and it will be back within hours so i dont bother
2 men are not expected to so why should women comform to
3 i dont sweat though so dont get smelly
4 i just dont have the time,im 6ft with 35 inch legs and it would be to time consuming as im a 24/7 carer so dont have the spare time

i go(well did) swimming twice weekly, been to umpteen holiday places in the uk and abroad and its never bothered me

im also very very pale with jet black hair so it is noticeable i just dont care

i dont wear skirts, shorts or sleeve less tops so apart from swimming places im covered up

Quackersandcheese3 · 24/05/2020 19:58

On myself I find it gross. On other people I don’t care, it’s up to them .
