Hairy armpits - liberating or gross?

As I'm unable to go swimming at the moment I haven't bothered/been able to keep up with many of my usual beauty/maintenance routines.

For the first time in my life I now sport long underarm hair and am quite fascinated by it! It's very unfashionable in England, but I like it. What are your experiences..?

I'm tempted to keep it and wondering wha

...of course it stinks by the end of the day but so do foofs and underboobs if you have big breasts ect-That's why you wash!

Are big boobs gross too? Of course not.
Your ex was just a minger who went to bed without showering. You should have turned a hose on him xD

Jasmineben · 23/05/2020 13:43

For me it depends how long it is and whether anyone will see it

madcatladyforever · 23/05/2020 13:44

Wait...some men shave their armpits???

Loads do for comfort, aesthetics and sports. I think it's considered good grooming by many now.

vampirethriller · 23/05/2020 13:44

@EastMidsMumOf1 I use Mum. No sweat and no smell.

madcatladyforever · 23/05/2020 13:46

i wanted to so many times Grin

MulticolourMophead · 23/05/2020 13:46

I shave simply because I prefer the way it feels. I mean, hair is natural, it's just down to personal preference.

I shave my legs when I want to wear clothing that exposes the legs, again, personal preference.

MulticolourMophead · 23/05/2020 13:47

Wait...some men shave their armpits???

My DS does, he prefers it that way.

Bertucci · 23/05/2020 13:48

Yuck in my opinion. I have used my Lumea on mine so have no underarm or leg hair. On MN, of course it's fine Hmm, but in RL, a woman with a tuft of armpit hair would be seen as weird if it was on show.

My dh clippers his underarm hair so he has barely any. A big thatch even on a bloke is a bit too unattractive and retro nowadays - like a hairy chest or back.

Honeybee85 · 23/05/2020 13:49

I find armpit hair really grim.
I remember my DM for some reason refusing to shave it and going out for dinner in a sleeveless dress. I felt embarassment when I saw how visible it was. She also refused to remove her very obviously visible moustache for years, God knows why.

I also think it will get smelly much sooner then when you just shave it. So it's a no from me.

Hedgehog44 · 23/05/2020 13:49

Ugh gross.

MadCattery · 23/05/2020 13:51

I live in a very warm climate and wear deodorant/antiperspirant every weekday. I don’t shave the night before a weekday (workday) but shave on Friday night and go without the chemicals on the weekend. There really isn’t much growth, once a week is enough and no one has ever noticed or commented.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 23/05/2020 13:51

But @Jennifer2r no one’s going “ew, fingers, gross” are they.

We’ve been conditioned to think of underarm hair (or anywhere, except long flowing locks on our head) as offputting on women. I epilate but really resent doing it. Trying to build the confidence to not care what people think, but right now I’d feel embarrassed if a colleague or stranger saw my kitten pits.

GrandAltogetherSo · 23/05/2020 13:53

I shower daily but only shave my armpits periodically because I don’t wear deodorant and it helps to keep the area clean.
I rarely shave my legs but will do if I’m going swimming, so probably about twice a year.
I once had my lower legs waxed to see what it was like, but never again. What a waste of money and it was painful too.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 23/05/2020 13:54

Not gross, I like to let mine grow a bit then epilate them, I love the feeling of hair removal haha! I don't hide them away when I'm growing them back and find it odd people think it would smell. I assume they don't wash properly or use decent deodrant.

vdbfamily · 23/05/2020 13:57

I know it is a matter of opinion but it is the fact that so many woman judge it to be gross that ensures that every new generation of young girls feel the need to remove body hair and that makes me really sad. The hair we are born with is totally natural and I have literally never looked at a fellow human and thought their body hair too be' gross' . It is sometimes fascinating if it Tufts out top of shirt or if someone has enormous eyebrows but that just make s it interesting, not gross.

1forAll74 · 23/05/2020 13:59

I don't like under arm hair, I wear a lot of strappy dresses and tops in Summer, and to me,it would not look ,or feel good.

Alsohuman · 23/05/2020 14:02

Personal preference. I was conditioned by my mum to do it, post menopause I don’t need to. I love the bloke’s under arm hair, it’s a little soft, fluffy powder puff.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 23/05/2020 14:07

She also refused to remove her very obviously visible moustache for years, God knows why.

Because she didn't want to? Because she knew that growing hair was entirely normal and not something to be ashamed of?

buzzy06 · 23/05/2020 14:08

I'm fascinated by everyone who's disgusted by their own body. How do you look at yourself in the mirror and think eww by looking at hair?

I don't necessarily love my body hair. I generally shave if that part of skin is exposed my clothing. But I'm not disgusted by myself.

I accept all of it including the hairs in less desirable areas🍑

Branleuse · 23/05/2020 14:09

I like it. I think a bit of armpit hair looks sexy on women. Im not keen on LOADS of body hair on women, but I think a bit is kind of subversive and shows confidence. I think its hot.

As for myself, I find I sweat more and feel more sticky without any armpit hair, and I also feel sweaty between the legs if I shave my pubes.
Im not a particularly stinky person though so I dont really think that makes much difference either way.
In reality i sometimes shave and sometimes dont. I wish I never felt the pressure to shave. I wish it was more common to see body hair, because that would give me the confidence to do it too

lachy · 23/05/2020 14:11

It's hair, its meant to be there.

We're all different, some people prefer to
remove all body hair, some don't remove any and there are hundreds of permutations inbetween. None of them are wrong, disgusting or gross.

The reason we now have children with self esteem and body confidence issues is because we promote an "ideal". Humans are not smooth like billiard balls, we're lumpy, bumpy and hairy.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 23/05/2020 14:13

I find the friction of underarm hair irritating so I get rid of it. Same for those stupid hobbit-hairs on my big toes. Everything else can grow and flourish as it wants because it doesn’t cause me any discomfort.

I’d expect everyone else to do what works for them too.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 23/05/2020 14:14

To add, I very rarely wear anything that would reveal the lack of underarm hair. I’m very much a sleeves person for comfort.

SixesAndEights · 23/05/2020 14:14

I've got a beard trimmer. Every now and again I do underarms and pubes, I don't like either when they get too bushy. Usually give both a No. 2! Never been arsed with legs.

SixesAndEights · 23/05/2020 14:18

Can I just ask those who do leave it hairy, what antiperspirant do you use that prevents them from sweating and smelling?

I use a crystal. Absolutely amazing and lasts for years.
